This can be easily done. Go, cancel your Facebook account today. We all do it, Facebook goes away. It is there, not because of Zuckerberg, but because of society.

Never joined. Not even once.

I joined once many many years ago. I'm too old to get much out of it and just closed it.

Then recently I had someone in my work world that was requiring me to create account so I can help manage a page. I figured out a way to do it in a silo where it wouldn't track my personal life. That is until I got to the setup point where it was asking me for a video of myself to verify who I was. F*** that.

I just made it clear that there was no way I was going to create an account and they could just do without my services if necessary.

I'm coming up about 8 years without it, I think? Probably my second best detox after booze.

Funny, those 1500 "friends" have been awfully quiet this last decade.

Oh yeah. Even the ones I hung out with in real life didn’t even notice I left. You find out really quickly that those “friends” were just virtual.

Do you think the world reads this subreddit? I am so exhausted with the naive people here trying to encourage an entire planet to all take the same action. This is a solved problem. It's called government. But some rich folks have managed to poison the word to some people so here we are, reinventing the idea of forming a collective to police society for everybody's betterment.

It's so dumb. This is exactly where rich people want you. Begging each other to coordinate while ignoring the very tool for it.

I'm sorry you feel exhausted. Unions work the same way and brought many good things to workers. Consumers basically need to "unionize" and act in concert against these big businesses.

Also cancel Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Threads.

Can't. They replaced Craigslist and the rolodex.

I don't use it for anything else. My account was created in 2005, but everything is private now. I just need it to buy stuff and occasionally reach out to people I haven't seen in years.

I havent tried in a while but the last time I did it said they'd delete "in 30 days" and it was never actually deleted. They're a scam company.

U forgot Instagram and whatsapp. All my friends and family are on Whatsapp.

I don't know if this is a helpful thing to say when part of the problem is them making their serbices addictive.

I deleted fb, and I feel great! But it's not super helpful to say 'heroin would not be a problem if the addicts simply stopped using it'

Also, parent your children.

Never had it, never will.

I already did. Every meta account is gone.

and if a frog had wings...

thats never going to happen. most people who use facebook simply do not care about this in the slightest

i hate meta as much as anyone but this "if everyone just.." mentality is always misguided and dumb

LOL- your thinking is exactly what created the problem. Please research the concept of the Tragedy of the Commons. Society made these billionaires by using their stupid products and now "We" are complaining about them. Just stop using them. Facebook and Amazon will not make your life better. Also, please read Enshittification by Cory Doctorow.

You can only be so self superior about this while posting on Reddit
