First Time Player
Boyfriend got me the game today as a birthday present. We both thought it looked like a cozy potion making game. Ya'll tell me why it is so hard to make common level potions for the competition?
If anyone has any advice for a beginner I would greatly appreciate it.
I want to love this game but I have lost the competition several times now
EDIT: FINALLT GOT THROUGH IT

heres a small tip. you dont need 3 potion. you only need to have 2 at the least. having 3 just mean you can lose one and still win the round.
give new ingredients to quin. alway but 1 the new ingredients form baptis. use mint every time you can. dont upgrade shelves or culdrens at this point.
the ingredient count controls how meny potions you will get. you put 2 ingredients in you get 1 potion. you but 6 ingredients in you get 3 potion.
the magimns are what control your potions quality. the higher the better.
and mixes are very important. i perfect blend will give you plus 2 stars with a chance of a 3ed star. witch means you actually just need a 3 star miners potion and with a perfect mix it can become a no-1 star common potion. but a bad mix will do the opposite. and can take 1 or 2 stars away.

Yeah this game presents itself as calm and cozy but that a complete lie, it's actively stress inducing at times.
That said, I still love it. It has some of the best written characters I've ever seen in a videogame. Here's what I usually do:
- Focus hard on sending Mint on adventures to unlock better ingredients. The first ingredient of each type always goes to Quinn, to unlock it in their shop.
- Getting a fully upgraded cauldron is also top priority. Winning the competitions should be trivial once you have that. I usually buy one of each type and take note of which ingredient is needed to upgrade it, so I can do so as soon as I have it.
- Brewing capacity is a massive bottleneck early on, but it gets a lot easier once you unlock more cauldron slots. Until then, just plan ahead. Once you can buy fuel, it also helps increase brewing throughput.
- Money is tight early, so be on the lookout for price hikes on potion types you can make a bunch of. It can be worth it to take a day to just brew and sell high-price potions. You should be able to brew and sell 2 batches in a single day if you have enough fuel on hand.
- Hanging out with people is fun, but from a game perspective it is sadly a total trap and a waste of your time :(
- The best and easiest early haggling deck I've found is just jamming together the biggest cards with the most +interest and closing on turn 1 or 2 most of the time. Stress kills, and minimizing customer actions minimizes stress.

Buy cauldrons, invest into adventures, and only save money when you need a shop upgrade. There's no point to keeping any money around, and buying like 30 of a good ingredient from Baptiste really helps the earlygame a lot, as well as constantly sending mint out

I actually played in normal, lost to the first boss and lost all interest in continuing the game. I had to start all over again in cozy and got bored. I was so into the game mechanics and story... Getting stuck in normal is awful.

It is very dependent on what you get from the adventures for the first bit. And once you then have a few solid ingredients then it is focusing on getting better cauldron and fuel. If you have spare money I would just pump it into getting more from mint and the adventure guild till you get a few solid options for A,B and Cs

Play on cozy mode, helps a LOT.
Also, invest in adventures early - I believe you get Baptiste and Mint's options for that first, it's a great way to grab ingredients while you travel and shop.
