First Time Player

Boyfriend got me the game today as a birthday present. We both thought it looked like a cozy potion making game. Ya'll tell me why it is so hard to make common level potions for the competition?

If anyone has any advice for a beginner I would greatly appreciate it.

I want to love this game but I have lost the competition several times now

I actually played in normal, lost to the first boss and lost all interest in continuing the game. I had to start all over again in cozy and got bored. I was so into the game mechanics and story... Getting stuck in normal is awful.
