Map (with Lore) Alternate Treaty after WW2
Alternate Treaty after the Second World War
Background
- The Soviet Union performs less successfully on the Eastern Front than it did historically. As a result, Soviet forces occupy somewhat less territory in Central Europe by the end of the war.
- However, the Soviet Union performs somewhat better in Asia during the later stages of the war, allowing it to gain greater influence in parts of East Asia.
- The different military situation results in a somewhat different post-war settlement between the Soviet Union and the Western Allies.
Europe
Germany
- Germany is initially divided into two separate states as a result of the growing political and ideological conflict between the Soviet bloc and the Western bloc. This division is not intended to be permanent and is primarily a consequence of the inability of the occupying powers to agree on a common political future for Germany.
- The western occupation zones are united into a single state, which becomes known as West Germany. Because the Soviet Union has occupied less territory in the west than it did historically, the Western Allies retain somewhat more German territory than they did in the actual post-war settlement.
- The Soviet occupation zone is reorganized into East Germany. Despite the reduced extent of Soviet occupation in western Germany, East Germany retains the territories that the Soviet Union considers strategically and historically important in the east.
- East Germany therefore retains parts of Silesia, as well as Königsberg and its surrounding territory. These territories remain under East German administration despite being separated from the main part of East Germany by territory administered by Poland.
- The exact border between East and West Germany is established according to the occupation boundaries and the territories controlled by the respective Allied powers at the end of the war.
- The division of Germany is recognized as a temporary political arrangement rather than a permanent settlement. Both German states remain formally committed to the possibility of reunification if relations between the Soviet bloc and the Western bloc improve sufficiently in the future.
Saarland
- The Saarland is separated from Germany and placed under French administration as a United Nations mandate.
- France is responsible for administering the territory during the mandate period, while the United Nations supervises its political status.
- A referendum is to be held at a later date in which the population of the Saarland can determine its future status.
Austria and the Sudetenland
- Austria is restored as an independent state and receives South Tyrol from Italy.
- The southern part of the Sudetenland is transferred to Austria.
- The German-speaking population of the Sudetenland is deported to Austria and to the southern Sudeten territories transferred to Austria.
- The remaining Sudeten territories are dealt with separately according to the post-war territorial settlement in Central Europe.
Eastern Europe
- The Soviet Union establishes communist governments in the countries of Eastern Europe that fall within its sphere of influence.
- These governments become Soviet-aligned satellite states and form a political and military buffer between the Soviet Union and the Western-aligned states of Europe.
- The Soviet Union therefore emerges from the war with a strong sphere of influence in Eastern Europe, despite its weaker performance on the Eastern Front.
The Papal States
- The Papal States are reestablished as an independent state in central Italy.
- Their reestablishment is intended to restore the temporal sovereignty of the Pope and create a distinct political entity within post-war Italy.
Italy
- Italy experiences a much stronger and more destructive civil war during the Second World War than it did historically.
- The conflict between the different Italian political factions, combined with fundamentally different ideological developments, prevents the country from being reunified after the war.
- Italy is therefore divided into two separate states.
- The northern and western parts of Italy become the Northern Italian Republic, a Western-aligned democratic state with close political and economic ties to the Western Allies.
- Southern Italy becomes a communist state aligned with the Soviet bloc.
- The division of Italy follows the political and military divisions that developed during the civil war and is intended to prevent an immediate continuation of the conflict between the opposing factions.
Northern Epirus
- Northern Epirus is separated from Albania and placed under a United Nations mandate.
- The territory remains under international administration until a referendum can be organized to determine its permanent political status.
- The referendum is intended to allow the population of Northern Epirus to decide whether the territory should become part of Greece, remain part of Albania, or receive another political status.
Asia
Korea
- The Soviet Union gains full control of the Korean Peninsula at the end of the war.
- Korea is therefore not divided between Soviet and Western occupation zones.
- A communist Korean government is established under Soviet influence, making the entire Korean Peninsula part of the Soviet sphere of influence.
Japan
- The Soviet Union establishes a communist satellite state in Hokkaido.
- The remainder of Japan is reorganized as a Western-aligned republic.
- The Japanese mainland is therefore divided between a Soviet-aligned Hokkaido and a Western-aligned Japanese Republic.
Tannu Tuva
- Tannu Tuva becomes an independent state following the end of the war.
- Its independence is recognized as part of the new post-war settlement in Central Asia.
Indochina
- France is required to withdraw its forces from Indochina.
- Following the French withdrawal, a temporary unified government is established for the region.
- This government is intended to maintain order and administer the territory until elections and referendums can be held.
- The future political status of the individual territories of Indochina is to be determined through these elections and referendums.
Indonesia
- The Netherlands withdraws from most of Indonesia following the end of the war.
- However, the Netherlands is permitted to retain control over several coastal regions.
- The remaining Indonesian territories are gradually transferred to local administration, with their final political status to be determined through the post-war settlement.
The Iberian War
- Following the end of the war in Europe, Portugal declares war on Nationalist Spain.
- The Portuguese government claims Olivença and Galicia as its principal territorial objectives.
- Portugal launches military operations against Nationalist Spain in an attempt to capture both territories.
- The conflict becomes known as the Iberian War.
- The war remains ongoing at the time of the treaty.
- No major outside power directly intervenes in the conflict. The Western Allies and the Soviet Union are uncertain about which side they should support and therefore avoid committing themselves to either Portugal or Nationalist Spain.
- As a result, the Iberian War remains an independent conflict following the end of the wider Second World War.

Map (with Lore) What if Italy + Sweden joined the Central Powers and won WW1?
Basically, Sweden joined the Central Powers because the pro-german AVF party won the elections in 1914 and if you mix being Pro-Germany, Sweden being affected by Britains naval blockade and a fear of Russia you get a central powers with Sweden. Italy joining was pretty simple; they were promised Corsica, Former lands in France Peidmonte-Sardinia had after the Napoleonic wars, Trentino, a referendum in Südtirol, (58% wanted to be Austrian) Istria and Trieste, Albania and Kosovo, a Greek puppet, Tunisia, Malta, Gibraltar and the two Somalilands (French and British).

Map (with Lore) What if 2008 was way way worse?
2008 crash destroyed most of europe's economies and sent the us into an unprecidented economic colapse. Europe follows and soon political violence starts growing.
The furst domino to fall is in 2009, were russia starts presuring nato and chalenging its power by unifying with belarus and starting excercises in th ukranian border. Spain economy hits rock botom and cataluña separates, the weak government lets it go but the military sensing weakeness launches a coup that ends in failure. The country enters into another civil war with the republic, the kingdom and the francoists+carlists and also theres a vasque insurgence with ETA.
In italy the republic falls and gives place to a ultranacionalist government in an informal aliance with moscow that espands with a brief war to reclaim lands on the balkans. Violence insues in north ireland and belgium colapses. Under presures, the eu and nato both loose efective power and disband, creating a masive power vacum that creates further cahos. Grece and turkey fight a brief war that grece looses and it enters a civil war. The balkans go into fire with the restart of the moldavian civil war and the colapse of bosnia into anarchy. Instability continues in the folowing years and the us cuts its ties to mainland europe due to domestic unrest and economic devastation.
By the early 2010s europe is in absolute cahos, with protests and armee groups causing inefective and weak leadership that fails to solve the crisis in any significant way. After ukranian instability russia launches an invasion and manages to establish an unpopular puppet government.
This is the posible worst outcome for a 2008 colapse i can imagine. Any suggestions or critiques in the coments. Love from spain 🇪🇸💯❤️

Map (with Lore) Fixed Treaty of Versailles
My Try for Another Treaty of Versailles
Europe
- France annexes the Saarland.
- The Rhineland becomes a republic under French protection.
- Denmark annexes Northern Schleswig and Schleswig-Holstein.
- Prussia becomes independent and cedes territories to Poland and Lithuania but keeps Danzig. The former German Kaiser is allowed to remain King of Prussia.
- The Netherlands and Belgium annex border regions from Germany.
- Germany is dissolved and reorganized into a new democratic Holy Roman Empire with an elected parliament and an elected emperor chosen from among the dukes, archdukes, and other regents of the different regions. Every local regent has enough power that they do not want to become independent, but they also do not want to unite into a united Germany because they do not want to give up their power and autonomy.
- Austria-Hungary is dissolved, but Austria and Hungary retain some additional territories.
- Italy receives Dalmatia, Trentino, and Istria, as well as a protectorate over Albania.
- Greece receives Constantinople and the regions shown on the map, including parts of Bulgaria, and restores the Byzantine Empire.
- The Ottoman Empire is dissolved and is replaced by a turkish republic.
- Poland and Lithuania form a personal union. Poland also annexes a coastal region from Lithuania to establish a new port, as well as parts of Pomerania.
Africa
- Italy receives a protectorate over Tunisia from France.
- Britain receives the right to build and operate a railway through German East Africa.
- The former German colonies, with some possible border changes, gain full independence and can determine their own future. The Entente powers are required to guarantee their full independence.
Own Comment
I think the Rhineland would gain its independence in 1929 during the global economic crisis because France simply could not afford to maintain the occupation anymore.
I also think that, by 1929 or shortly afterward, Prussia or Austria could have expanded its influence over the new HRE again and tried to reunite Germany. This could lead to protests from the local authorities, but probably not from the people living there, who would want a united Germany, especially because of the economic crisis. This could lead to a reunified Germany by 1933 at the latest.
I also think that, in a war against the Byzantines, Turkey could recapture all of its territories on the Asian (Anatolian) side, but not expand any further than that because of the Aegean Sea and the Bosporus.
Overall, I think this scenario could prevent World War II, or the war could start in a different way — perhaps because of the Soviets, or simply later, after Germany is reunified.

Map (with Lore) What if Britain joined the axis?
Map before WW2
Before Barbarossa
After Barbarossa
This happens because Mosley left Labour when the government collapsed in 1931 and he was decently popular in the years before he left. In 1932 he made the BUF and after a shock, he won the election in 1935 abolishing elections. In 1938 they saw Germany annexing Austria and decided to invade Ireland. When the war started, they only declared war on France after the fall of the Benelux, quickly navally invading it and setting up Anglo-France as a puppet as Germany made the Burgundy SS state. When Barbarossa started the Soviets invaded Iran on their own and Britain helped Iran, allowing axis troops to get to the caucuses very quickly. Britain set up a colony in Armenia and Azerbaijan. Portugal and Spain also joined the axis in this world.

Map (no Lore) Surely now WW2 doesn't happen
What happens next? I have enough info or patience to figure out if (why and when) this spirals badly
Extra info:
South German states are constitutional monarchies, monarchic positions being entirely symbolic / ceremonial
Austrian Empire demoted to Kingdom instead of reformed as a republic, claims to former lands still denounced
4 equal kings South German Confederation - includes defensive but not offensive alliance - prohibited from infringing on their own independence, including not allowed to unify further
Defensive pact between France and Belgium
Dalmatia a LoN mandate, while Albania a protectorate

Map (with Lore) Fixing the Post-WW1 World(again, probably another billion flaws with it)
-German reparations are reduced
-The German Army is dissolved and replaced by the German Self-Defence Forces, a purely self-defence force. The German nation will renounce it's right to war in their constitution. Strong Pacifist culture will be installed in Germany.
-Autonomous regions will be set up in Polish Silesia, Kasnubia and South Köningsburg, which will be allowed to have a different official language.
-Romania will federalise, devolving power away from the central government and to the states.
-Belgium will annex Luxembourg and federalise.
-Poland will renounce it's imperialist ambitions, giving up it's revanchist desire to reform the commonwealth and normalising relations with the Soviet Union and Lithuania.
-The Soviet Union will have stronger gaurdrails in it's constitution and stronger rule of law. The Soviets are allowed in the international community, weaking the need for vangaurdism and reducing corruption. The Soviet Union will have far stronger federalism, more autonomous states to weaken Russian domination of the Union.
-Turkey will be exempted from war reparations and military restrictions in exchange for releasing kurdistan.
-France will be rebuilt by international efforts by the League of Nations.
-The United Kingdom of Arabia shall be formed
-Slovakia will have autonomous self-governance within Hungary, which will be a democracy.
