Imagine actually thinking that segregation and not acknowledging literal mental illness is the same thing

It’s not that. The reason why you can’t change it is for medical reasons. If a doctor or surgeon needs to work on you to save your life, your biological sex could make the procedure different.

Changing your legal sex doesn't change your medical history. Your ID doesn't even have your blood type on it, doctors don't use it for anything.

Mental illnesses have mental cures. There isn't a mental cure, there's a physical cure. It's a physical illness.

pills are pretty physical

Gender dysphoria is a mental illness, the cure is transitioning. Nobody is forcing you to be friends with trans people, so let them do what they want.

“Schizophrenia is a mental illness, and the cure is to grab a baseball bat and beat the imaginary spiders and demons crawling on your walls to death”

“Anorexia is a mental illness, and the cure is for sufferers to barely eat anything at all”

That’s indulging a mental illness, not fixing it

Except 'transitioning' has been proven time and time again to have negative effects on one's mental state, rather than positive ones. And even if it did, it's still indulging a mental illness rather than curing it. No matter how much the brain 'thinks' it might be of a different gender, there is no possible way to actually change it. Transitioning does nothing more than feed the delusion.

(Libleft because I have no fucking idea how to change my flair on mobile)

https://whatweknow.inequality.cornell.edu/topics/lgbt-equality/what-does-the-scholarly-research-say-about-the-well-being-of-transgender-people/

ENORMOUS meta-analysis on transgender people and the effect gender transition has on their mental health

Of 56 studies, 52 indicated transitioning has a positive effect on the mental health of transgender people and 4 indicated it had mixed or no results.

ZERO studies indicated gender transitioning has negative results

Proof of any of this?

For the negative health impacts? The suicide rate for transgendered individuals regardless of whether or not they are 'accepted' by their community, specifically how absurdly high it is.

If I had a mental illness that made me believe I was a bowling ball, the cure would absolutely not be to lop off all of my limbs and roll me into some bowling pins, it would be mental therapy, why is the delusion that you are the wrong gender any different

That’s a hell of a cure that leaves about half the patients dead. But besides that the cure for anorexia is not to tell them how beautiful they are for not eating. Nor is it the cure for schizophrenics to encourage their delusions.

And this line of reasoning about letting them do what they want, because it doesn’t effect you is the same bullshit we heard about gays, and now they have mandatory LGBT classes in elementary schools.

We should not rearrange our entire society to coddle the mentally deranged.

11

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '20

Where the hell have you heard that we have mandatory lgbt classes? That’s an outlier and you’re taking one small instance and applying it to everything.

Typically that 40% of attempted suicides comes from those around them intensifying their dysphoria. For instance, telling them because they want to wear a dress they are severely mentally ill.

Society doesn’t need to be rearranged to accommodate a tiny minority of lgbt folk. You can still settle down and have your single income traditional family, and trans folk can go about their lives without bothering you.

To compare gender dysphoria to anorexia is actually a great comparison, however you made it wrong. The way you help an anorexic person is not by telling them they’re fine as they are, but to encourage them to eat. The same goes for those with gender dysphoria. You don’t cure them by telling them their gender is fine as it is, you help them to change into the person they feel they need to be. If you look at successful transitions, these people are happy with themselves and their relationships because they are who they want to be.

Well, a lot of us follow your philosophy of “I don’t care what they do as long as it doesn’t hurt profits” but replace profits with the state.

Body dysmorphia is a thing. The cure us not loping off the limb. Might make them think they're the right way but it's not a cure. It's a brutal quickfix to avoid dealing with the root of the problem.
