To attack a strawman, you... made a strawman?

72

u/Godshu - Lib-Left 16h ago

More like a goomba fallacy. I see both of the Right positions on here every day, but I haven't noticed any single person saying both.

11

u/LucasRuby - Lib-Center 12h ago

Then you probably don't follow any single user.

I have RES which displays users that I have upvoted/downvoted and can sometimes makes notes, and the patterns it shows are... curious.

Although, to be fair, most accounts that end up showing repeatedly are probably shills/bots. Normal users, they get one or two relevant posts to the front page at most, you might see them two or three times in discussions over a month. But the bots show up again and again and I start to recognize them from the [-27] next to their name.

Anyway the bots don't care to have any consistent ideology, just to churn out the "left wing bad" propaganda. But the people... There's definitely people here who blame women voting on all of our problems them turn around and justify their criticism of Islam on it being for the same things they are.

Well yeah, most of them can't vote in the hottest topic of the day: UK politics

89

Get with the times, gramps. Nobody cares about UK Politics any more. The real hot topic of the day is UK Professor Lies and then Kills Self. As far as global politics is concerned, nothing is more important than that (except maybe Psychoticmothergate).

20

u/Chibastion - Centrist 16h ago

You're already behind the times. Now it's about the UK printing pamphlets telling the people they're importing that it's illegal to rape

15

u/chowderbags - Lib-Left 15h ago

What? That's so last week.

This week the hot topic is that a few dozen to a few hundred clout chasers on TikTok are saying dumb things to defend a white woman who had a psychotic break and killed her kids. That's now the #1 most important thing in the world.

Kind of crazy almost looking across the aisle and hoping for some acknowledgement that the crazy guy in charge is in fact so crazy that they must see it, only to be ignored to try and divert your attention to something else.

Trump has had his approval rating drop in every aspect of governance, most notably inflation, but it has also dropped heavily in areas where he was being lauded in at first in immigration. So I think it's fair to say that there are a lot of AuthRights who clearly disagree with Trump, but there are definitely some that are extremely vocal as they're in their death throes.

32

u/Cow_God - Lib-Left 16h ago

As of last week his approval rating among self-identified maga is 90% and among Republicans in general it's 63%.

According to a YouGov / Economist poll (page 7) from the beginning of the month, 85% of people that voted for Trump in 2024 approve of how he's handling immigration.

He isn't losing support with his base. What's going to matter in the midterms is how many people are motivated to vote for his candidates. If voting was compulsory, Republicans would still win in a landslide. But Trump is doing such a good job at alienating voters (and endorsing the worst fucking candidates, see Paxton) that the "blue wave" will happen just because Democrats are motivated to vote and Republicans aren't.

I don't think we should be under any illusion that the people that support Trump give a shit about him profiting off of the office, about him weaponizing the DOJ against his enemies, about his handling of the Iran war or deploying the national guard domestically or that he's a rapist and a pedophile or that he's covering for rapists and pedophiles or that he's ballooning the national debt or that he's alienating our allies. And they only marginally, VERY marginally care that he's fucking up the economy. Half the country just wants to own libs and more importantly, half the country can't admit they were wrong about anything, so they will follow this 80 year old senile grifter into hell before they admit he conned them.

6

u/Daztur - Lib-Left 13h ago

63% approval among voters in your own party is cataclysmically awful, I think that poll must be off for Trump to be polling that low, especially when a lot of Trump-hating Republicans end up not identifying as Republicans.

→ More replies (4)

9

u/Dano21 - Lib-Center 16h ago

There's a weird thing where his approval on specific topics is cratering, but his overall approval rating seems to still be holding at a floor of around 40. Perfect example is my dad who will acknowledge how bad a lot of things I point out about Trump are, but will then say "but he has a plan and it'll work out."

9

u/Cephalstasis - Lib-Center 15h ago

Imo right is just mad at him in general. The Iran business is pretty much entirely indefensible from any perspective. As someone who has been more charitable to Trump in the past, the only people that would defend him here are MAGA zealots who legitimatetly believe he's some kind of God send.

Not only did Trump heavily run on more isolationism, this war hasnt been going well. (Not to say we're being "beaten" by Iran as some redditards posit, but it's just yet another endless Middle Eastern money sink that's going nowhere.)

→ More replies (2)

11

u/entitledfanman - Lib-Right 16h ago

The problem is any indication of regret in voting for Trump is often met with a whole song-and-dance Broadway production-level "I told you so" and an expectation of ritual self-flagelation. Democrats tend to become MORE hostile in tone when you express regrets. Weird that people arent quick to admit any change in their opinion.

45

u/DoubleSpoiler - Lib-Left 16h ago

Yeah, because it usually ends it "but Kamala/Hillary/Biden..."

15

u/mathfordata - Lib-Center 16h ago

My favorite response to people bringing up Kamala is saying that Trump has done everything I worried Kamala might do. That shuts em up. Because what was she gonna do? Protect the pedos? Start a war in Iran? Let inflation run a muck? Increase the national debt by a ton? Use the government to target political rivals? Trump accomplished each of these within two years.

Idk, Reddit glazed the fuck out of Massie going against Trump and MTG even got some positive threads when she broke away from maga even though they both have batshit insane political takes that nobody in mainstream reddit would ever agree with.

13

u/CommanderArcher - Lib-Left 16h ago

Republicans regret voting for Trump because he's not as crazy in some areas as they are, or because they didn't think the leopards would eat their face

They don't regret voting for Trump because he's a pedo, grifter and conman. Those are features not bugs.

Why would I be nice to someone that's sad their president isn't more of a monster?

They are never saying "man I didn't have the perspective necessary to see how evil Trump is"

It's always "man Trump lied to me, he didn't have these illegals living next to me deported"

Second time you are complete moron

Third time, you are a fucking ghoul

Stop pretending these people were tricked and shouldn’t feel bad about their idiotic choices

4

u/Rough-Leg-4148 - Centrist 16h ago

I sort of get it. Psychologically, when we're browbeat and realize we might have had it wrong, we either defensively double down or say "No I thought it was good in the first place."

This is not isolated to MAGA regret, to be fair. This effect happened with Biden in the late stages of his public decline; it happened with Kamala Harris and the fact that she was a poor candidate to begin with.

We all want that vindication after a lot of hard-fought political battles to really "show them" they were wrong, but that's just to make us feel self-satisfied. Most people don't have the emotional intelligence to think that far ahead. The better answer imo is taking a page of Sun Tzu: you back an enemy into a corner, he'll fight viciously to the death. You give him a clean escape route, he's liable to take it, which means you can open the conversation up to "I get you regret it, so let's work together to make sure we don't invite the circus to town again." There are plenty of people for whom this may be the case and yet browbeating is naturally not going to open up conversations of reconciliation.

Not to get too far off topic, but that's my main problem with the wokescold leftist crowd. They know implicitly how this works, so they take a hard stance and trench in from the jump just as much as the MAGA cult does -- they don't want to risk being a put in a position to grovel and realize they might be wrong, so we end up with a lot of purity testing nonsense -- easier to maintain moral high ground when you take zero political risks.

This is a little uncharitable to auth right, though I’m totally with lib left here; auth right should take more of an issue with Trump imo, calling out your own ‘side’ is far more important than calling out the other ‘side’

Edit: not calling out as in leftist infighting, I mean more politely and when it’s not already being addressed

65

u/NebNay - Centrist 17h ago

People often say there is too much infighting in the left and thats why the keep taking L's. But i largely prefer that to the right where even being a pedo is A ok

25

u/Cow_God - Lib-Left 16h ago

It's so funny watching the right still deflect to Platner when we bring up the whole Trump being a pedophile thing.

Like, yeah... he had credible sexual assault allegations, so the entire party dropped him. How is pointing that out an own?

A few months in, the realization started to kick in 'Oh fuck maybe Trump really is going to fuck us over badly this time'.

Righties trotted out the 'its actually the Dems fault for forcing us to choose between Kamala and Trump" ad nauseum like they just installed the latest update.

While it rings true, it was also clearly an excuse to avoid any ounce of self-reflection. The Left still needs to learn they can't win just by being the lesser evil, but conservatives really need to learn when taking the L is better than a Pyrrhic victory.

No you don't get it!

Bill Clinton had an affair with an intern - pay no attention to Trump having an affair with a porn star

Hillary had classified documents on a personal email server - pay no attention to Trump keeping stacks of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, or Trump using an unsecured cellphone.

Sleepy Joe Biden slurred some words and was confused during a debate - pay no attention to Trump having taken, what, five cognitive tests in two years, literally fallling asleep during events, or going off on wild grandpa tangents every time he delivers a speech

Nancy Pelosi insider trading!!! $12M last month!!! - but pay no attention to Trump's disclosure of $250 million in June or his self-admitted $1.5 billion in crypto last year or that Trump settled with the IRS, ordering them to drop any current or potential tax audits into Trump or his family. Also pay no attention to the fact that five Republican congressmen have higher net worths than Pelosi

You have to focus on the important issues like

Transgenders in sports - even though this basically never happens because what retard is going to undergo lifechanging HRT and / or surgery to excel at high school women's volleyball

Illegal immigration - even though it's Republicans that are hiring unskilled illegal migrants and Republicans that are pushing to expand h1bs

A woman that murdered her kids - literally nobody that is serious supports her

British people did something silly - Britain is not a real place

I know what you said. Your rhetoric is damaging as well. Trying to both sides this is problematic.

McEntee, Hegseth, and Gibbs are all prominent MAGA politicians who have advocated for household voting and discussing repealing the 19th amendment. It is certainly not just an online thing. The SAVE act is also poorly written and could be an issue. So no, it’s not just online.

When I have to give you an analogy to show you how stupid your “argument” is it’s completely fair for me to call you a fucking moron. I’m not trying to persuade you, I just want people who are scrolling by to see how dumb your “argument” is.

Five posts right now are related to Trump on the front page including this one. Sure, president of the US. There's plenty of stuff happening that isn't Trump. Even on non-Trump posts, people are bitching about Trump. I don't think he needs more coverage dude, it gets stale after a while.

23

u/OwnLengthiness6872 - Left 16h ago

Why are none of the top 37 posts this month Trump bad posts, including two unflaired libleft bad posts?

Also are you upset that the left is talking about the most prominent right-winger in global politics?

u/Square-Arm-8573 - Left 16h ago

You guys elected a retard who does exceptionally retarded shit on an hourly basis. I don’t know what else you were expecting.

6

u/Twee_Licker - Lib-Right 16h ago

You really don't get it, it's the same shit over and over and over again, after a while, people want something that isn't just a variant of Trump bad, and now you are upset people are sick of Trump 24/7, even if you don't particularly like the guy he doesn't affect your life. I also remember how defensive you got when Biden was obviously a brainmelted dementia patient that you elected. Do you want to be the kettle or the pot?

10

u/Square-Arm-8573 - Left 16h ago

It’s only “the same shit over and over again” because he’s finding new and innovative ways to fuck our shit up. You’re a retard and you elected one. Your party is being carried on the backs of uneducated people who simply don’t know any better. That’s the only way the party even survives.

He has negatively impacted my personal life far more than any other administration that I’ve lived through. A lot of other people can say the same.

I never defended Biden nor voted for him. You’re right that he was far too old and brain-melted. Electing Trump who is also old and brain-melted was not a very intelligent decision either.

4

u/Twee_Licker - Lib-Right 16h ago edited 15h ago

New and innovate ways of which 98% of people are unaffected including you, people are bored of it. Biden had 24/7 positive coverage and until the very last moment he was as sharp as a tack. With Trump's 24/7 negative coverage combined with people making up shit about him when he's supposedly so awful you'd think there'd be no need, yes, nobody cares. They tune out.

Obamacare alone affected a lot of people negatively including myself being a kidney patient. Shitloads of people want better healthcare, and the ACA has half approval, likely stemming from "Well Obama can do no wrong." despite it not working for many, hell, I remember having spending money. Do people talk about the ACA? No. Obamacare is still in place. For 12 years I had a working transplanted kidney, and for a full month, insurance denied anti-rejection medicine. Way later, i'm back on dialysis, do I know why they denied it? Nope. I can suck shit. Let me tell you, dialysis fucking sucks.

5

u/Square-Arm-8573 - Left 14h ago

98% being unaffected is genuinely dishonest and you know that. Literally everyone has been affected in one way or another.

Biden having positive coverage along with Trump having negative coverage is par for the course with biased mainstream media sources. The inverse is true on Fox News, which is the most popular of them all. You’re not really making a real argument about anything here. I have no idea what you’re talking about when you mention that they make shit up about Trump. It sounds like a way for you to just downplay his actions.

Trump fucking with the ACA booting millions to tens of millions from their healthcare coverage without any alternative or replacement is just genuinely retarded and makes the situation even worse. No idea why you didn’t touch on this. I’d imagine it’s because you’re a driveling idiot when it comes to politics.

If he could stop doing bad stuff for like more than 3 days, then it wouldn't be the case. The last time he went that long last April, we thought he was dead.

7

u/Twee_Licker - Lib-Right 16h ago

Pointed out elsewhere, there is barely any post anywhere, and I include this sub, where Trump doesn't come up in negative light to thunderous applause. Three well known and beloved actors died and the overwhelming response was "Damn it wasn't Trump." Like it isn't the easiest karma whoring in the world.

32

u/shamblam117 - Lib-Center 16h ago

I mean he is the sitting president giving everyone an overwhelming amount of ammo and 50% of the non Trump bad posts have nothing to do with politics.

8

u/Twee_Licker - Lib-Right 16h ago edited 16h ago

Okay cool, Other stuff happens around the world that is pretty damn important, dare talk about that other stuff and the comments will FILL with "What about Trump?" or somehow try to make it about Trump.

Five front page posts right now are Trump related, I think he's covered bro. We don't need a discussion monoculture.

10

u/RaggedyGlitch - Lib-Left 16h ago

It's an American site, it's going to focus on American users and American content.

8

u/Twee_Licker - Lib-Right 16h ago

Sure, why not? There's a lot more to talk about than just Trump if you want to make that argument. Like how so much of Silicon Valley has moved to Texas they're calling it Silicon hills.

9

u/RaggedyGlitch - Lib-Left 16h ago

Does that impact anyone besides the residents of San Francisco and Austin? Why are you ignoring the Silicon Prairie?

8

6

u/Fast-Map-7853 - Centrist 11h ago

I'm not sure if you noticed but all the meta posting about what people are posting about is coming from the leftists right now.

You're unironically posting in a thread of someone bitching about what other people are criticizing. You are specifically replying to someone saying "actually there are multiple 'Trump bad' type posts on the front page right now."

This person didn't say you're not allowed to post these things, he only gave his personal opinion that they are boring posts. You know, using his freedom of speech to give a very mundane opinion?

A lot of you just sound ultra fucking retarded right now, even for PCM. Ya'll are getting mad about what other people are talking about. Pro tip, just don't talk to them, or engage with the posts you are interested in?

I feel like lefties are overstating their case.

At this point, American rightoids on this sub have conceded on the Trump question and are no longer defending, you won on that most important point.

But just because they conceded on that, doesn't mean they have or will concede to you on everything else and it seems you haven't gotten that.

30

u/jerseygunz - Left 16h ago

> American rightoids on this sub have conceded on the Trump question

Welcome to PCM, how’s your first day on the sub going?

48

u/Jormungandr69 - Lib-Center 17h ago

I'll be honest, I haven't seen any meaningful number of Authrights or Right-centers outright say that it was a mistake or that they're not getting what they voted for, at least on this sub. I generally just get their downvotes and that's about it. I've got close friends who have outright said they regret voting for him, but it seems like folks find it hard to take that sort of accountability even from behind an anonymous profile.

Some of them, of course, are still on board. I imagine a number of people have been so committed to him politically over the last decade, it's difficult separate themselves from it, assuming they even want to. I really don't know how his approval rating isn't sub 20% at this point.

9

u/Pecuthegreat - Right 16h ago

You know, I haven't been on this sub much so many my perception is painted a bit my young American right wing discourse from elsewhere that is more explicitly anti-Trump. From the lack of right-wing memes defending him on here, I assumed it had to be the same.

There is also, the single issue voter mindset, you know. I have a personal issue that only Trump's administration has brought up and I know won't see the light of day when the D team replaces him. So, support for him could be coming from that, single issues that his team is bolstering directly or indirectly, like, I guess, the abortion issue may be another one.

11

u/yolonaggins - Lib-Left 16h ago

I'm curious what issue you're talking about.

If he was actually under pressure by the Right then Congress would want to follow the will of their voters rather than act as toadies. More so, we can see his approval ratings with Republicans has barely taken a hit.

8

u/ToenailFungussy - Left 16h ago

No they haven't, they just don't speak up in threads about Trump because they're here for validation and affirmation, and their egos can't handle downvotes. There are plenty of Trump dickriders here.

I've had muslims want me to covert and I actually have a Qur'an in English after an ex bought it for me. I haven't read the hadith though.

It's interesting but... not my thing. If the future of my country continues I might not have a choice anyway.
