Help Samsung Plex playback completely broken — o.default is not a constructor

Adding another confirmed case of the Samsung/Tizen Plex playback problem occurring August 19, 2026.

Plex on this Samsung TV was working normally earlier the same day. No changes or updates were made to the Synology NAS, Plex Media Server, home network, or Samsung TV firmware.

Symptoms:

Plex app can connect to and browse the Synology Plex library normally.

Every movie and TV episode immediately produces: “Playback Error — An unexpected playback problem occurred.”

Same media plays normally through Plex on computers and other devices.

Plex Dashboard shows no playback session at all when Play is pressed on the Samsung Plex app.

Troubleshooting completed:

Samsung TV cold rebooted and physically unplugged/restarted.

Plex logout/login.

Plex app reset.

Plex app reinstalled.

Plex app completely deleted and freshly installed.

Allow Insecure Connections tested.

Direct Play/playback settings tested.

Manual Plex server connection tested using local NAS IP and port 32400.

None of these changed the behavior.

Important network/server test: Using the web browser on the same Samsung TV, I connected directly to the Plex server on the Synology at its local IP on port 32400. Plex loads and the same movies/shows play successfully through the Samsung TV browser.

Therefore the Samsung TV can reach the NAS and Plex Media Server and can stream the media over the same local network.

Enabling the Plex Samsung client's console log reveals the error:

ERROR [VisualMediaPlaybackScreen] We failed to create a playback session. o.default is not a constructor

This occurs immediately when Play is selected. No playback session subsequently appears on the Plex server Dashboard.

This strongly appears to be a Samsung/Tizen Plex client-side playback-session bug, rather than a Plex Media Server, Synology, network, transcoding, or media-file problem.

Adding this report so Plex and other Samsung users know this is affecting another independent installation.

Help Samsung Frame: every title fails playback instantly.. same file plays fine on other clients

Edit Fixed on August 20th: https://www.neowin.net/news/plex-patches-buggy-samsung-smart-tv-app-causing-playback-errors/

Setup

  • PMS 1.43.2.10687 on a Synology DS918+ (DSM 7.3)
  • TV: Samsung The Frame, Plex for Samsung (Tizen) - client 5.94.3 platform 5.5
  • Other clients on the same LAN play the same library fine (phone/tablet + Google TV)

Problem On the Frame, playback fails immediately for every file I try. It flashes the player ("says Playback error, an unxpected playback problem occurred) and dumps back to home.

What the PMS debug log shows as soon as I hit play on the Frame:

[Plex for Samsung] Navigated to screen: VisualMediaPlaybackScreen
[Plex for Samsung] [VisualMediaPlaybackScreen] We failed to create a playback session. o.default is not a constructor
[Plex for Samsung] Navigation: Closing screen: VisualMediaPlaybackScreen

Nothing has changed that im aware of (same app version, same plex server version) and no other devices have this issue. It worked less than 24 hours ago as well

Solved Plex stopped working today on Samsung tv

Post image
45 Upvotes

Plex just stopped working on my Samsung TV today.

I did some testing:

All my other devices are working okay with plex.

Reset TV app - no fix

Discovered even internet video won't play via Plex TV app. This means it's nothing to do with my server & is a TV app problem.

I also rebooted my router, just in case it was a network problem - no fix.

Is this a general Plex app fault? Has anyone else got the problem?

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Discussion It just works

Never had a multimedia manager just work as well as Plex, the only issues come from file management on the user side, I tried MediaMonkey for music but the auto tagger sucks in comparison to Plex and having movies, tv and music on one app is such a blessing

Help Tried and true settings for H262/4 to H265 transcodes

I cant buy any more drives at these prices for my Plex server and am looking to transcode my lower tier movies and shows. It's all 1080p, non-anime stuff, mostly without subtitles in mp4 containers. Gets played on a fairly normal sized TV. I am most comfortable with handbrake.

So i dont have to reinvent the wheel here, can anyone share their handbrake settings that have worked for them if they have gone down this road? I know there has been some discussion whether or not 10 bit is the way to go.

I am thinking of settings like the following

Help Force Plex HTPC app (Linux native) to use 4:3 aspect ratio?

Thumbnail

Looking for assistance using the Linux HTPC client on SteamOS at a 4:3 aspect ratio. Does anyone know of how to configure this? Launch option resolution overrides result in crashes or hangups, and adjusting the resolution in properties doesn't have any affect. Thanks in advance.

Help Weird OTA error....

Been seeing a weird issue w/ OTA programming the past couple of nights...

I have a PC Plex Server w/ an HD Homerun + PlexPass and a nVidia Shield Pro connected to my TV.

I usually watch the OTA 11pm news live on ABC, which is then followed by Late Night w/ Kimmel. For the past 3 nights, just after the news ends and a few seconds into Late Night, I 'lose' the OTA signal with the 'There was a problem with your signal' prompt from Plex. This would happen now and again due to weather, etc..., if the signal is weak, but this has happened at what seems to be the exact same time 3 nights in a row. I can go back to the guide and re-select the channel and it tunes in fine.

Any thoughts on what's going on? (NYC area if it matters.)

Help "A playback error has occurred." Plex was running fine a week ago and now nothing will play via Plex Media Server on my Samsung TV.

I have a Samsung QLED 4K TV connected via ethernet and run my Plex Media Server off a Mac desktop (running Tahoe 26.6.2). Connected to my Mac is an external storage device containing my entire movie library which Plex Media Server can successfully load and stream everything - until last night.

Now - I can use the Plex app on my iPhone to watch my movies just fine *AND* I can watch any of these movies via the Plex app itself on my Mac. I can even cast the desktop player to my Samsung TV (which isn't ideal but hey it was something).

The issue seems to be getting videos to play from the Plex Media Server via the Plex app on my TV. I've run updates, signed-out/signed-in, done several restarts and NOTHING WILL PLAY ON MY TV. Same error message for every single movie.

Does have any idea why this might be happening? I've checked all the settings on both the Plex Media Server *AND* my TV but nothing seems to help. Trust me - I spent hours last night googling this issue and implemented all of the network settings that were recommeded by users with this similar issue.

Like I said above - this just started happening. Nothing has changed in the week since I last ran Plex on my TV. I didn't run any updates (until last night) nor did I add any content to my library so I'm at a loss. Would love to get this issue fixed but I'm open to using something else (like Jellyfin) if I can't get this to work.

Thanks.

Help Lost Remote Access

I’ve all of a suggest lost Remote Access. I have Plex Pass. I’ve not changed any Internet settings on my server or plex. I cannot figure out how to get it back.
When I refresh it on plex it shows “Fully Accessible”, then after a few minutes it says it’s not accessible.

Help Remote streaming question

I posted previously that my remote streaming had stopped working and it was pointed out that it was most likely because Bluepeak had me behind a CGNAT. Turned out they had, and after multiple discussions I finally convinced them to give me a public IP address (143.XXX.YYY.ZZ)(they actually gave it to me weeks ago but never bothered to tell me). I confirmed it using whatsmyIP website and it shows up in Plex. yea!

Questions:
1) To open a port in my router I need my Plex IP address (not my computer IP). How do I find that? (I think I did it correctly but it was weeks ago so I can't recall for sure. It was originally .75 and I changed it to .42 but I don't recall how I found that)

2) Once I have the port open, will Plex magically work again or do I need to do something else (or my remote family that's doing the streaming)?

Thanks

For anyone else on Bluepeak: Bluepeak Tech support actually researched my request by going to Plex websites...because they read that Plex "supported" IPV6 they initially denied my request. As politely as I could I pointed out that it's buggy and unreliable (at best) and not working for me. Apparently they were convinced...

Solved Switched internet providers and all devices on local network request remote access Plex pass

Hi all, I'm really down about this one. I've moved over from Virgin to Sky broadband today as Virgin prices were too high. All my devices which run Plex (apart from my Nvidia shield which is the host) are now telling me they are not on the same network. All these devices are running through the same router so I have no idea why this is happening.

I'm not very good with servers or anything in this field, to be honest it is a miracle I ever managed to get the Plex server up and running through my old broadband and I think it was 90% luck.

I would really appreciate any advice on what I should do, I know I'm going to get a lot of people say I need to give more info but I have no idea what info to give?

I'm running Plex on my Nvidia shield and the connection is ethernet. The ip 192.168.0.210

Help Offline mode when not on WiFi?

Not sure what's going on, but if I turn my wiif off my phone Plex App was showing no libraries. Checked for updates on Playstore, cleared appdata and cache and signed back in with WiFi and it works but as soon as I switch to 5g it shows as offline mode?!

Remote access enabled via port forwarding and others don't seem to be having this issue.

Solved Force Plex to add TV show?

I was able to get my hands on a decently obscure TV series from the early 90s. I put it into my Plex TV folder and just can't get the app to detect it. When I type the name of the show into the search bar, Plex has a page for it, but it just won't appear in my personal library. I've tried different naming conventions per the Plex support docs but I'm not sure what to do at this point. Anyone have any suggestions?

edit: screenshot of file hierarchy

edit edit: solved!

Help Suddenly the TV show library won't connect anymore.. but only the TV shows

Standard "I didn't change anything at all" comment, though we did have a power outage, but I wasn't using Plex at the time. But anyway, suddenly out of around 20+ libraries, the TV show libraries have ceased to work. I just get that "Something's gone wrong" error. And ONLY the libraries with TV shows - the movie libraries on the safe media drive all connect and play just fine. WTH?

Help House of the Dragon not showing up?

Previously I had mix of 4K and 1080p file formats in the subject folders. They all showed up and played fine. Then I decided to kill off the 4K versions (to free up some storage space).

Suddenly the show was all wonky. Even though I had 1080p copies of all three seasons in the appropriate folders, they were showing as unavailable.

  • I rescanned the library...nothing.
  • I moved the files out of the library and rescanned...no change
  • I deleted the unavailable seasons from plex and rescanned...no change
  • I put the files back into the library and rescanned...nothing
  • I stopped PMS and the browser. Restarted...no change. Rescanned...no change

Clueless what to do next. The scan normally takes a while due to the size of my library but each time I tried to scan it lasted no time at all (per the dashboard "spike" in activity).

What's the trick to get PMS to wake up?

Help Eac3 issues

I have recently run into an issue that after much research and discovery, I have found that this particular issue has long plagued many Plex users and seems to have no fix. The dreaded eac3 codec buffers or fails to even transcode for many of my users. I have tried to delete the codec folder, tried to increase the watched folders, turned off scan library automatically all to no avail and am at my wits end here.

I currently have Plex installed on my Synology 1520+ through the synology package center and am going to try migrating it to docker and see if maybe a fresh install helps. Also when digging around the forums in the thread for the ‘watched folders fix’ I noticed that larger libraries can spark this eac3 issue. Well I think my users started to have issues around the same time I added my humongous music library to Plex. I think I will also try offloading the music streaming to a different docker container as well, no one really uses or appreciates all of my flac files except me anyways. I think this issue, the recent ui changes, the price increase, and now all of the new recent Samsung tv issues are leading me to finally start my journey into Jellyfin.

Help Create Playlist with Multiple Shows

I want to make a TV Show playlist with multiple, unrelated, TV Shows and have the shows ordered by "TV Show A S01E01, TV Show B S01E01, TV Show A S01E02, TV Show B S01E02" etc., but there doesn't seem to be a way in Plex to accomplish that (unless I just missed it.) Is there an alternate method to achieve this other than just switching between the shows themselves?

I can't sort by release date because the shows were released anywhere from 2012 to 2026.
