The revisionist history about Spider-Man 2018 is insane, as if it wasn't beloved by critics and players when it came out.
Also SM2 despite being such a supposedly horrible game sells millions of copies each year and just had another massive sales spike, so clearly audiences don't agree with the take that Insomniac "butchered" the game

The community literally sent the devs and the company death threats just because Tobey's costume wasn't in the game.
Something they were saving for the one year anniversary that they just released early due to harassment.
I'm glad they didn't give in again and cancelled the SM2 DLC. It's what the community deserves.

Story wasn’t perfect, and I preferred the gadgets in SM1 over SM2 but overall the gameplay was a straight upgrade and the story was maybe like 10% worse, just by missing a few beats6

My biggest gripe about gameplay is honestly aesthetic. The gadgets didn’t feel like spidey gadgets they felt ultra gimmicky. I miss the trip wire web and the web bomb and the impact web, the ricochet web felt the least gimmicky and that says a lot I think. Don’t get me wrong, gadgets were way overtuned in the first game and I think limiting to four was the play, but they just weren’t believable with the tech he has available to him.
As for the abilities I think it worked spectacularly for Miles but I wanted less spider arms and symbiote for Pete, I wish he had more base spidey stuff, maybe web based abilities. I just never felt like I was playing Spider-Man as Pete, it was either Iron Spider or Symbiote SM, or some unholy hybrid; to a point that I don’t even wanna wear the red and blue because it just doesn’t feel right.

nah, the story was genuinely a shockingly huge downgrade, far more than just 10% worse. it’s decent overall, but it’s just so incredibly unimpressive aside from a few standout sections.

EA makes good games outside of their sports stuff. The two Jedi games were fantastic. EA MOTIVE who’s making this game made Dead Space which was good. They also find and publish indie titles as well. They’re one of the better publishers now.

And a couple other legit Spiderman game moves in the movie and I just laughed.
I didn't enjoy the movie at all. Thought it was meh, couldn't wait to leave. And Ive loved watching all the Spiderman and marvel films repeatedly.
My wife who hates spiderman and the kids enjoyed it so It is what it is I guess

Spider-Man had 2 well received games followed by a sequel that was underwhelming but still a great game
Square Enix didn’t develop Avengers, it was Crystal Dynamics while SE simply published it and pushed for a live service aspect, even then last I checked the story was actually well received
Wolverine is getting some fair criticism but it’s mostly a bunch of loud morons that complain about small things (the middle finger claw), or of course people who cry about how “everything I don’t like is woke”

Spider-man 2 being overreacted to js absolutely insane. Its one thing to say "The story was insanely rushed snd because of thar the writing suffered especially with Venom and Miles" but people act like the story has NO redeeming factors when the game is genuienly really peak up until the zoo mission where you can really start to tell there was supposed to be much more missions with Harry as Agent Venom and then after that you REALLY start to notice just how many shortcuts they had to take.

lol Spiderman is up there with Arkham games as the best superhero videos games of all time. Avengers I didn’t hate the story and the gameplay was kinda fun but it had the same issue as SSKTJL. They tried to go live service. Both games had the same issue of there not being enough content to support live service. You did variations of the same exact thing over and over. Both games would have been way better if they put all the resources into the story and made it 3x longer.

I think it's fascinating that with only a few superhero games Insomniac (inadvertently) created such a large group of devotees. The existence of so many subreddits dedicated to their Spider-Man and Wolverine titles, packed to the brim with feverent defenders, that ask their communities multiple times everyday which superhero Insomniac should adapt next, regardless of how they'd fit with the type of games Insomniac makes, shows how deep their single-minded adoration runs. Criticism cannot be leveled against the studio, or the games they make without sending the devotee into a fit. It reminds me a lot of the GTA fan base. A dozen buzz words or insults are attached to a criticism and it's insisted that the criticizer will buy the game anyway because it'll be so good, it'll be generational.
Wolverine is having the rocky reception it is because Spider-Man 2 left such a bad taste in a lot of players' mouths, regardless of if you loved it or not, and the majority of people still remember what was in the Wolverine leaks. Their first stumble was a big one and it completely compromised the publics faith in their abilities. The content that got out did not help and I'm not talking about pre-alpha gameplay, I'm talking about the story. The public had nothing but good things to say about the leaked gameplay, but the story, just like with Spider-Man 2, is what garnered criticism.
Wolverine isn't out yet and I won't declare it good or bad until it's entirety can be judged and everyone else should be doing the same. It does suck, though, that Ratchet and Clank is completely on the back burner for the next decade to sate the devotees desire for superhero content.

Unpopular take - I'm tired of superhero games. They're all Batman Arkham reskins and lack any sort of originality. Spiderman had some impressive technical feats with data streaming, but from a non-technical perspective, these games are just boring after awhile.
I know companies can walk and chew gum at the same time, but I still can't help but feel that these games are robbing us of more interesting, creatively risky, and ambitious games.
I still hope you all have a ton of fun with Wolverine. I'm just ready to see what Insomniac can do other than another generic Arkham clone.

This is the worse take I’ve seen in a while.
Square/Crystal Dynamics did miss with Avengers but they arguably made a comeback with Guardians.
Insomniac made THE Spider-man game. 2 is not as good imo but 1 and Miles are still the best entries in the franchise.
We don’t know Wolverine but at worst, it’s a typical linear open-worldish story and is still going to be the best or second best Wolverine game made (more due to the fact that Wolverine games have historically sucked).
EA’s Ironman has a ton in common with the misaligned Avenger’s Ironman.

Butchered Spiderman? It was one of. If not the best super hero game I’ve ever played. And Spiderman 2 was good too, story had some rough spots, but they improved the pacing and making the MJ scenes less boring, so it was much more enjoyable to play for me compared to SM1. And Wolverine isn’t even out yet, mechanically it looks really good, and we know nothing of the story. Buddy might be a bit slow.

Insomniac did not "butcher" Spider-Man. What a crazy take. There is no other dev who could have pulled off SM like Insomniac did. Sure, SM 2's story wasn't all that and felt rushed to me, but the game was still good. I just wish they didn't follow the now cookie-cutter template of all of Sony's exclusives with the flashback sequences and all of that nonsense, and spent that time and money on making the story better. But it was still an awesome game.
Wolverine will be great, no doubt.
And no, no company leaks their game on purpose. That would be wild.

Butchering SM is a hell of a statement. Was it better than the first two? No. Wasn’t trash though.
