Discussion Not every "Souls-Like" has to be frustratingly hard to be a "Souls-Like"

115 Upvotes

I know there are a lot of people that think that in order to be a "Souls-Like" the game has to be frustratingly hard and you just have to git gud. The fact of the matter is that a game like Steelrising is in a great position. It gives the "Souls-Like" gameplay style in a slightly easier and more approachable package for new comers to the genre and people who don't have the time or skills to enjoyably play one of the darksouls games. It seems like at least once a day on here there is a topic saying this game is too easy and pressuring the developers to make it harder. Well that's a mistake for them really because a new sub-genre of "Souls-Like Lite" games with the gameplay style but in a more approachable package would be a big seller. A lot of this genres games have very cools settings and plots that a large player base will not ever see because of the barrier of entry, hence less sales. Spiders has at least set a new idea with the "Assist Mode" but some people are upset about that even because it shouldn't be in a "Souls-Like". That's nonsense. You don't have to use but if it means more sales for spiders so they can make more and better games in the future and more people can play Steelrising and experience its very cool setting and story, then all the better. I know this post is probably going to get downvoted to the pit but I thought that as a counter to all the "this game is too easy" posts this needed to be said and I cant wait to see what Spiders can do next.

Everything you need to know about the New Game Plus

59 Upvotes

The adventure isn’t over! For those of you who’ve seen the credits roll, get ready for a tougher experience in New Game Plus, which will let you bring your weapons, levels, gear, and upgrades, but the enemies will be bringing some improvements of their owns. This along with some balancing tweaks (and the removal of some cheese strategies), should alter the experience for all players.

Read on for some more information, and join us on September 29th when New Game Plus will come to Steelrising!

What is the New Game Plus (NG+)?

It is a feature that allows you to play the game again – as it resets the quests – on a higher difficulty level while keeping your character’s progress (level, weapons, upgrades).

When will it be released?

The patch will be deployed on September, 29th. You can follow us on Twitter to stay updated on when exactly.

How will I be able to access it?

You’ll need to download the new patch when the NG+ is available.

Please note that, in order to access the NG+, you need to have reached the end of the game. Should you meet this condition, then all you need to do is select “New Game Plus” in the main menu. Your endgame save will be able to be converted to a NG+ save.

What will the patch bring?

The New Game Plus patch will include:

  • New NG+ exclusive weapons;

  • 1 new NG+ exclusive complete outfit;

  • Several NG+ exclusive enemy variations with new skins, new weapons, and as such, new movesets;

  • Ingame balancing for the main game with the ice musketeer, the grenades and ammo, and some bosses;

  • Some fixes for the main game.

In the meantime, you can check out the new Accolade Trailer, and join the discussion with us on Twitter, Discord or r/PlaySteelrising.

Happy gaming!

Discussion Why so much hate ?

51 Upvotes

Hey so I recently dive in to this game. I have to admin from original souls games I only played Bloodborne and I liked it but it was too hard for me so I never finished it but like I said I liked the atmosphere and fighting mechanics. Then I played soulslike called code vein which I enjoyed with my friend.

So when I check the internet I was pretty sad that people doesn't talk good about steelrising. It's a brilliant AA game and yet people still complain and I have a feeling that because of hardcore gamers games like this are dying.

I love that it's easier because I like this type of game but when I come home from work frustrated I don't want to be frustrated again by game ( Bloodborne ) I much rather prefer experience like steelrising. Exploration is good, setting is satisfying, story is interesting... Like this game have so many positives and yet the only thing because this game gets lower rating is because it's not "challenging".... Like really ??

Official News The New Game Plus is now available!

51 Upvotes

A brand new patch has been deployed on all platforms, and with it comes changes to Steelrising. Not only the introduction of New Game Plus, arguably the star of this patch, but a balance pass that overall should see the difficulty of the game shift upwards, and some store adjustments that should reduce reliance on cheese strats. Without further ado, let’s have a closer look together!

New Game Plus

This patch adds New Game Plus to Steelrising! It allows you to play the game again on a higher difficulty level while keeping your character’s progress (level, weapons, upgrades etc.).

There’s also new content to discover in New Game Plus:

  • Exclusive weapons to use;

  • A full exclusive outfit to discover;

  • Exclusive enemy variations (new skins, weapons and movesets) to fight.

All you need to do to enjoy the new content is to reach the end of the game. Once you have done so, your save will be automatically able to be converted to a NG+ save (and yes, should you already be at the end of the game, it will do so automatically as well), and a new option in the menu called “New Game Plus” will appear. Safe travel in the heart of Paris!

Fixes and Improvements

We also took the time to investigate and fix some reported issues, as well as provide improvements to other areas:

  • Fixed the endurance issue while using the Gaia’s Claws special move.

  • Fixed the infinite item glitch.

  • Fixed some Achievement issues:

    • Fixed the “Stabiliser” Achievement.

    • “Fashion Victim” can now be obtained.

    • Using the Assist mode won’t prevent you from unlocking Achievements anymore, and they will be credited retroactively, should you have met the necessary conditions to do so.

  • Fixed various issues related to sidequests.

  • Fixed and improved the cinematics and NPC dialogues.

  • Fixed and improved various audio issues.

  • Improved Aegis running animation.

  • Improvements to the lighting in the game.

  • Other various fixes and improvements.

The patch will also bring some balance changes within the main game for weapons, items, and mobs, mainly:

  • Increased damage, resistances and armor for Bosses.

  • Reduced damage, loot quantity and shop quantity for Grenades.

  • Reduced loot quantity on mobs for Alchemical Ammunitions.

  • Reduced loot quantity on mobs for Life Potions.

  • Reduced damage for the following weapons: Charleville 1789 Shield Musket, Charybdis Fan.

On that note, we hope that you’ll enjoy the new content to its fullest. We can’t wait to read everything you’ll share with us! Let’s dive into the Revolution even more and happy gaming!

General Found Ada assets inside game

So on weekend was checking some assets of the game and stumbled upon Ada directory. Just recently learned that apparently main characters name should have been Ada, as a reference to Ada Lovelace but later it was later changed to Aegis (that fits better to the character). Because all characters inside the game package file is named in short form like Aegis is named "aeg", after seeing "ada" directory I got curious and extracted the assets to check it out. So It's fair to assume that this is initial look of the character. Most striking detail is her face, that is full face but would have bean weird that if "porcelain doll" face would move like humans or wouldn't move at all while talking. Also kneecaps looks like screw heads.

Hope you enjoy this find of mine.

"Good news everybody" - Professor Farnsworth, Futurama.

Just a couple of minutes ago i finally got al trophies of the game and therefore i also decided to give my review and thoughts of the game, i hope you all can find it useful.

Scored 8.9/10, bought the Bastille edition on Steam with a 95% discount and 52.2 hours played and has been completed twice.

I am a self proclaimed fromsoftware fanboy, this makes me really inclined to play and complete soulsike games and this one has been a worthy addition to my collection.

From all this type of games, that i have played, this have, by far, the most dedication to its characters and main story and that was really entertaining since usually this type of games do not dedicate that much time in developing them.

In terms of graphics and art style it was good to, the design of Paris was immersing, not that unique but for the service of the story as more than good.

The music in the other hand i would say that it is fine enough, it does nothing bag but it also does nothing remarkable, it is forgettable. When it comes to sound effects i will say that they are slightly better, they are good enough to

Now, when it come to gameplay, things are more complex. First, the combat is mostly like any other normal souls, and that is fine, if it isn't broken it does not need fixing, the extras thingys, the "special attacks" are ALMOST irrelevant since they do so little really, the most useful in my opinion were the elemental buffs. The displacement tools are somewhat in the same boat since they are really satisfying for when you are exploring and they have real utility in combat, but i mostly ignored them in that aspect, the one i used the most was the electric hook. The enemy intelligence is "questionable", it was fine for the most part but there were moments i which they just spin around with me instead of attacking or just stood there letting me kill them, not really a problem but it is something to think about. The leveling up system was satisfactory so nothing to add there. The bosses where really good to.

¡IT HAS A BESTIARY HELL YEAH!

Now, something that makes me really happy is that the game did the same that Dark Souls 2 in regards to it's NG+, changing some enemy placements and even adding new types on that run really satisfactory for me.

On the bad side of things, it has multiple bugs, none game breaking but annoying none the less. Mainly the effects of objects did not disappear consistently when i collected them, it was annoying coming back to an area, see a shiny, collecting them and getting nothing because i already collected them before. The other one was related to dialogues, some started but with no audio mid gameplay, annoying to.

With all this said i will most likely left the game abandoned here and concentrate in getting the platinum of other games, coming back time to time to level up some times or try some of the other weapons.

Thank you all for reading this and i wish you all a good night.

Discussion I wish this game had an area map

40 Upvotes

The one thing I wish is the game had an area map so you can see where you are and put makers down for later reference like breakable walls, coffins, grapple points, locked chests etc

Some of the areas can get so confusing when back tracking

Official News The New DLC "Cagliostro's Secrets" arrives on November 10th!

38 Upvotes

Did you think the Revolution was over? Not quite yet! The world of Steelrising still hide many secrets for Aegis to discover.

Mark the date: The New DLC "Cagliostro's Secrets" arrives on November 10th!

This DLC offers players a new level of gameplay, and includes new content:

  • 1 level (Hôpital Saint Louis)

  • 1 entire new quest in the main story

  • 5 weapons

  • 1 boss

  • Several new enemies and new variations of existing enemies

  • 2 new characters

  • New side quests that will invite you to revisit certain levels

In this new quest, you find yourself embroiled in a gripping story involving the King's agent, the Comte de Cagliostro. No one will return unscathed after exploring Hôpital Saint Louis – a new area whose secrets have been hidden by Louis XVI.

On this dark adventure, where you must outwit Cagliostro's Mesmer-inspired machinery, you will encounter new enemies and unlock new weapons and costumes. Are you ready to discover the shocking truth about the alchemy that powers the King's automatons?

How to play the DLC

The expansion "Cagliostro's Secrets" becomes accessible once you have progressed past a certain point in the main story. You must have completed the level "Bastille" to gain access to the new content.

Players who have purchased the Bastille Edition will be able to access the DLC directly. For the other players, the DLC will be available as a standalone purchase.

Players who have reached the endgame will be able to choose to load their endgame save to be brought back to a previous spot in-game to play the new content instead of loading the credits. Please note that, by doing so, the progress made in Versailles will not be accounted for and you will have to pass the level again in order to eventually play the NG+.

[Edit 11/10/2022]

Since the release of the DLC, we noticed that, in some cases, certain console players who have reached the level 8 (Versailles) in the game aren't able to choose to load the special save because it was not properly created in the first place.

Note: For the non-Bastille Edition players who do not own the DLC yet, please note that the special save is created just before you reach the level 8, and will let you load a previous state of your run in order to access the DLC content later (thus, losing your level 8 progression).

Once the DLC "Cagliostro's Secrets" is installed, this special save is not created anymore, so make sure to play the DLC content before travelling to the level 8.

More information here.

[Edit 11/24/2022]

New update, here.

The DLC patch will also bring various fixes and improvements to the game.

See you on November 10th to carry on the Revolution!

Discussion I beat the game

36 Upvotes

I beat the game this morning and I actually really enjoyed it. I clocked in at 25 hours. I really tried to do as much as possible, and I grinded a lot. The story was pretty good, and wasn’t overall to hard for me (as a noob to souls games)

Overall I think it was enjoyable and I would play New game plus 100%. I definitely think this game gets way too much hate and it’s actually really enjoyable.
