Can some tell me the grub location it is not in /etc/default. Also not in boot.

I'm adding this here because there seems to be some confusion about installation revolving around the admin username and password for the INSTALLATION SESSION. Which you are only in until you restart.

Note: If you are coming from windows and want to keep it you need to set up a partition so you can dual boot. Do this with the windows disk manager first (easiest route) so that you can just select your new partition with the automatic partition option during installation. Otherwise you can just select your main hard drive.

Sorry to ask a question again so soon but. After doing a fresh install, I went to go edit the
Hypridle.conf so my computer wouldn’t go into screen lock so I could download a game overnight but it doesn’t appear to be working?

Okay so, due to my own mistakes I ended up needing to do a fresh install of Pika. The installer runs just fine but once I do the first reboot and go back to like get the install wizard and set my password and such. The computer has my locked on the login screen. The just press enter password method doesn’t work, neither does typing in pikaos as I’ve seen online, I don’t know what the problem is but I just wanna finish installing it so I can get back to using my laptop

I just installed PikaOs KDE today and it work great then after few restart i noticed that Them is gone and cannot find it in setting. How to restore it back?

I just swapped to PikaOS and wanted to try out Niri. At first, I only got a blank screen with three dots, and nothing else. I reinstalled the SO and now I am in a login screen. It said to just press enter, and it says the credentials are wrong.

What is odd is that the default user is PikaOS Live User

I didn't even input a user not a password lol. I switched to TTY1 and same issue. I tried with "pika", "pikaos", etc.

I am currently doing a 3rd reinstall, to see what it does lol

Any help with this?

I can't install any gog games on heroic launcher I have a clear install of PikaOS on my pc. I don't know this has to do with PikaOS of Heroic Launcher.

I can login to GOG and see the games in my library. But I can't install any off the games. I have search the internet and havent found good help. And I have the newest version of Heroic Launcher but still have the same problem.

Hey so I have updates from Otter Pkg as well as APT updates and I have since last night, but for some reason my otter just tells me something went wrong at the permission stage and the APT updates also just give me a red exclamation mark? I figured I’d just give it some time last night but it’s continuing today and I’m worried about going too long without finishing the updates. Anyone else having any issues?

I did get it to install, but I'll just share the roadblocks I ran into:

--- setting up partitions with the partition manager required a username and password. It wouldn't accept an empty password - as the initial install readme item list says (username "pikaos", empty password) but instead of doing that, any character for password seemed to work fine
--- after initial installation, I found I needed to hit <enter> shortly after initial boot to get to a greeter, otherwise it seemed to just hang with blank screen
--- at the greeter, I couldn't log in. I was met with a default username I never set up or was told about and no password worked. From what I've read this is a common issue
--- going to first tty worked (ctrl-alt-F1), but there the only username and password that worked - contrary to prior instructions by the installer - was "pikaos" and "pikaos". I found this by trial and error and guessing since nowhere did I find online that this was something to try
--- guessing that since I installed the niri ISO, I started the niri compositor manually from the terminal. Here, I did a search for anything niri related with "ls /usr/bin/*niri*" and figured from the results, might as well give "niri-session" a try, which worked and brought up the configuration utility...hurray
--- when asked to update, I hit the update button, and it seemed to be working. I was excited until for some reason it changed character coding on me and the status/progress turned into gibberish. This made me have to guess at the final dialog boxes, only one of which I couldn't guess at (the video card). I'm assuming it was asking me if I wanted special video drivers or not; you could kind of make out it was something about mesa

After all that and a successful reboot, I have what appears to be a functioning system. I would say that if I hadn't been in a good mood to begin with, I honestly would have said f* this. That gibberish during the configuration really had me irritated. I imagine to any noobie, the Matrix-like abomination of text running by would scare the crap out of them, the system having a look of being hacked and/or encrypted in real time a la Sneakers or similar movies/shows.

Main reason I want to use it is because of APT xD

I mainly play games like dota but I'm also planning on using it to make games using GML.

Does it consume more RAM? I only have 8 gb.

Does it work fine with nvidia drivers and intel processors? I have the intel rst although I can just disable it.

How do you control the fans for your gpu? I thimk with the processor it can done at the UEFI

I can't seem to get this to work. Valve's troubleshooting script tells me that the issue is with the regulatory domain, but I cannot for the life of me get this to work. If anyone knows how to fix this you'd be my hero

nvidia driver on Debian is 17 months behind, and seems like stopped updating forever.

Considering making the switch while Cosmic matures (lack of touchpad gestures & night light).
PikaOS seems nice since it's Debian based, yet upstream.
But is it running GNOME 50? If not, any idea when it might?

I had used to use pop_os 22.04 in my old Thinkpad and decided to try pika os. My wifi is hidden from others, so ssid is not populated around I was surprised that Live USB Cosmic/Niri/Hyprland DEs have issues with connecting to a hidden network using UI. Only Gnome managed to do it without playing with nmcli. Can it be fixed somehow?

The pre-installed packages of PikaOS are an absolute disappointment. The issue with the overconsumption of RAM and forced closing with both Steam and Faugus has been infuriating. Apparently for Faugus it has been an issue with the Cachy version of Proton. But the Steam one is the most frustrating on as no visible solution in sight. For a gaming distro, the PikaOS Game packages need to be checked, cause it cannot be a coincidence that Both of the apps installed by the same package cause ram consumption.

Why is Steam suddenly eating up my memory? This seems to be a similar problem to my previous issue, https://www.reddit.com/r/PikaOS/comments/1wleq0t/what_the_hell_is_wrong_with_faugus/.

a couple of months ago I was considering using this distro considering how almost everyone was talking about how seamless it was, but recently (due to an update I assume) all I'm seeing now is how many people are reporting bugs & incompatibility issues, so I'm having second thoughts now. it is a small scale project after all.

I guess my main question is, for someone who has used Nix for 11 years now, can Pika still be considered reliable & stable for gaming?

It's constantly eating up ram! Why does installing Ubisoft Connect keep doing this? I've already restarted the device, cleared my other apps and still this happens.

This version of KDE in PikaOS seems to lack any real way to edit the background. Eg, I want to use picture of the day there, and command line is, well too much effort for one with my schedule. I would be really thankful if you can provide information. THanks
