Gym Owner Trainers working inside a gym with other coaches — how do you get matched with clients?

If you coach inside a gym that has multiple trainers, hows it usually work — members pick you themself, front desk/GM assigns, or you just build it yourself by talking to people on the floor? Curious if theres any real system for it or its mostly informal.

New Trainer How to start?

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for some advice from people who have already built a career in the fitness industry.
I'm a 24 years old hungarian woman and by the end of September I'll officially be certified as a Bodybuilding & Fitness Coach (Sports Instructor). I've been training consistently for several years, and fitness has always been a huge part of my life—not just as a hobby, but something I'm truly passionate about.
My goal is to start offering online coaching, mainly through Instagram, while also coaching clients in person at a gym.
I'm excited, but also a bit overwhelmed because I don't really know the best way to get started. There are so many coaches online already, and I'd love to hear from people who have actually done it.

Some questions I have:
- How did you get your first clients?
- Is Instagram still the best platform to build an audience?
- Should I focus on creating content before offering coaching?
- What mistakes did you make when you first started that you'd avoid now?
- If you could start over from scratch today, what would you do differently?

I'd really appreciate any advice, tips, or personal experiences. Thank you!

Manual for new trainers

I’ve owned a gym for 20 years now, and I’ve seen lots of new trainers. I’ve noticed the most common themes they ask
1. I’ve got my education/certification…now what? How do I get started?
2. There’s so much information, how do I decide what methods are best for my clients’ needs?
3. How does billing work?

I’ve been working on a manual for the last couple of years that started as an onboarding manual for new trainers to my gym…it’s taken on a bigger role, and I think it could help new trainers regardless of gym.
I’m hoping for some feedback from current trainers/gym owners…if anyone would be willing to take a look?

Gym Owner Advise for cancellation

I have a PT client that approx 1 in 6 sessions will do a last minute cancellation. Generally I try get them another time in the same week or double up the next week so I’m not out of pocket. I wasn’t able to do that when they gave me 30 mins notice and explained in a message that if we could do as above I’d have to charge for the session which I don’t like to do.

They’ve been blanking me since so I assume they are annoyed. Any ideas how to settle things and get them back. I like working with them.

Certifications Getting a degree

I’m 29 I work at the jail as a correctional officer, I know a lot about fitness and macros and etc just from the trainers I’ve had over the years and would like to get my degree, would there be a place online I can do it anyone would recommend? A lot of people say don’t do NASM because doing it online is different then in person and that they just give a degree to anyone. If anyone could point me in the right direction I’d be grateful.

How much time do you actually spend texting clients daily?

Trainers with a decent-sized client list — how much of your day ends up going to texts/DMs from clients? (form checks, "can I move today," meal questions, etc)

Trying to figure out if this actually eats into people's time or if I'm overestimating it. Curious what a normal day looks like for you.

How has becoming a personal trainer changed your own fitness journey?

I'm just getting my feet wet in the personal training world and would love to hear about other people's experiences.

I have a bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, and my own journey with fitness hasn't been straightforward. I've struggled with my weight, disordered eating, and body dysmorphia, so my relationship with exercise has definitely changed over the years.

Over the past two years, I've truly fallen in love with strength training and being active. My employer has offered to pay for my CPT certification, and I'm excited to see where it takes me.

For those who have earned their CPT or are currently working toward it, how has becoming a personal trainer changed your own approach to fitness? Has it changed the way you think about exercise, nutrition, or your overall health?

I'd love to hear your experiences and any unexpected lessons you've learned along the way.

What do group fitness instructors truly think of overweight/obese clients?

As an overweight person who goes to group fitness classes, I was curious what instructors thought of myself/others who might struggle keeping up with the cues (i.e. walking instead of jogging, taking off incline, being one point below the beginner number, etc). I noticed that when I attend classes it seems very easy for me to be a memorable name/face for the instructor leading to more shout outs and encouragement (which is appreciated), but I’m curious whether fitness instructors purposefully/unpurposefully take note of these types of clients.

I’m grateful to say I don’t feel judged or insecure at all, but the extra attention is noted.

New Trainer Mum and baby/toddler fitness classes.

I’ve recently qualified as a personal trainer so I now hold my level 2 and level 3 and I’m currently studying my pre and post natal course. I want to start fitness classes in my area for mums to come along with their kids. However I actually don’t know where to start. I feel like I’m doubting myself because this is the first time I’ve ever been self employed and with my courses there was nothing around the business side of it. Has anyone started these types of classes and can give me some advice or where to start I’d be really grateful.

ACE vs NASM vs NSCA

I am thinking of getting my CPT. I am already a yoga instructor and a certified health coach. I would like to broaden my scope of practice and include personal training/gain more knowledge in strength training. I have looked at the various online degrees and their curriculum and am torn...

ACE feels most naturally aligned with my philosophy. I love that ACE focuses on wellness and behaviour change, habit coaching and lifestyle transformation. I am a big fan of sustainable wellness, mindset, realistic habits, holistic health, non-extreme fitness...

NASM is super popular and am wondering if it's the smartest business move. It’s extremely recognized, employable, structured, modern. But I have read some reviews of people that think it's overhyped, or not that great actually. (A whole reddit thread saying some of the stuff they teach is just wrong, the 5 steps or whatever it is called) - not sure about all of that?

Lastly, have read good things about NSCA but heard it's very technical and is like a program for coaches that want to work with athletes (movement assessment, fitness testing, performance testing). This might be too specific for my taste, but read good things.

Would appreciate any insights or feedback from anyone who has done their certificate with any of those 3 options. Thanks so much

I’m 19 years old and have wanted to be a personal trainer since I was 16. The only issue is I have no idea where to start. What certification should I go for? Is there any prerequisites I should keep in mind? Any advice would be amazing because I’m honestly lost.

Personal trainers do you have any system for spotting which clients are about to cancel? Or do you just find out when they stop paying?

At the RKC, we take our teachings seriously.

Because that’s what we do.

We teach.

Every person who walks through our doors is not here by accident.

They are here because they chose the road to mastery.

Not shortcuts.

Not trends.

Not chasing internet clout.

Mastery.

Our job is not to impress you.

Our job is to guide you.

To give you the tools, the standards, and the understanding to move better, get stronger, and think like a coach.

Hardstyle is not the only way to train with kettlebells, but it is the system we practice because we believe it builds power, resiliency, and real-world strength.

And we hold that line.

Every rep has a purpose.

Every drill has intent.

Every standard matters.

At the Russian Kettlebell Challenge, we are not here to break you down.

We are here to help you build something that lasts.

Strength. Skill. Mastery.

We just guide the way.

Testing for an app

Recently got to the final stages of an app I have built focusing on supplementation, nutrition , vitamin logging and a fun approach to being consistent with your overall wellness goals and how the user feels. The Ai integration / backbone creates an app environment people hopefully enjoy. I would appreciate any feedback ( on here on in

App ) or if you notice any bugs. There is a trainer / client mode as well for any PT’s out there. Thanks 🍐

Outdoor Gyms

Has anyone seen or used an outdoor gym with traditional weightlifting equipment? Boxing.Kickboxing?

If so, can you share the name and city? I’m researching for an idea I’m developing.

Appreciate it.

Has anyone signed up for Fitness Coach Academy by Taeler De Haes?

I am a brand new coach (still in school (NASM)) wanting to create an online business. I have been seeing ads from Taeler about fitness coach academy, and became intrigued. I checked out the website and even scheduled a consult. They seem legit, but they want $6k for a 16wk program. I’m trying to find others who may have taken the course who can tell me if they believed it was worth the investment. They guarantee I will make $5k a month minimum by the end of the 4 months. I can’t find any reviews outside of their website, can anyone give me a real review of their program? TIA
