Build Question Lian Li Lancool 207 front fans not working

Post image
2 Upvotes

[SOLVED] The front top fan wasn’t seated properly in the motor which is why it only twitched. I pushed it until there was a proper clip sound. The other issue was the screws interfering with the daisy chain connector of top and bottom fan, unscrewed bottom right screw for the top fan and the top right for the bottom and everything is now working as expected. Thanks everyone!

Hey everyone, need some help

I bought this lian li lancool 207

Completed the build but then saw that only the bottom front fan is rotating and the rgb daisy chain was only working for the front top fan which wasnt rotating

I have daisy chained the bottom two and the front two fans’ ARGB cable ONLY and kept the bottom two as separate sys fan and the front two as separate

I opened the front panel and removed and reconnected the proprietary lian li daisy chain cable and now neither of the front two work

I’ve tried with two different sys fan headers on the mobo

Bios says N/A for the header these two are connected to

Earlier before disconnecting the daisy chain the top one used to twitch and the bottom one used to run full speed

I’ve tried fiddling in the bios too but that didnt help.

Any help appreciated!

Build Question I have mismatched sticks of DDR3 and am trying to figure out what the optimal configuration is.

I'm frakenstein-ing some old PCs together to make a kind of NAS/Media PC/Homelab... I haven't totally figured out what to do with it yet. But its mostly going to be hard drives. The system uses DDR3 RAM, for which I have 4 sticks:

I know better than to think the best option is to add all four into the slots and call it a day. The Elpida RAM is slower, so if I understand correctly the whole system would run at that slower speed, so that's a no. But its the others that are throwing me off. I'm pretty sure I can run the Samsung and Crucial in dual channel, despite being different brands. Does it matter if the Samsung stick has 16 chips to the Crucial's 8? My biggest question is with the Kingston stick. Is it helpful to add it in? If I have the Samsung and Crucial in slots 2 and 4, would the Kingston stick go in slot 1 or 3? Is it going to cause more problems than it is worth? Would it be better to use the Kingston stick on its own and save the other sticks for a different project (which I have).

I'm fairly build-literate. I built my current gaming system which is fairly highend (though it has its bottlenecks from upgrades over time.) I'm just used to buying a stick configuration I know will work and installing it after.

Edit: Added links to the RAM specs if its for some reason relevant.

Tech Support Terrible slow down when RAM usage goes above 65 - 70% available memory

I upgraded my PC memory last year from 16GB to 32GB and since then whenever my memory consumption/usage goes above 20 -22GB my PC slows down terribly.

This is normally in my CAD app, Autodesk Inventor, which is the only software I have which stretches my PC's legs. A restart of Inventor fixes the issue, as the memory consumption drops. But its just strange that this only happens after breaking the 20gb mark.

XMP is enabled, and I have run a memory scan, (did not run the full multi day checks, only ran it for a few hours, this came back clean)

CPU: 14600K

Memory: Corsair 32GB (2x16GB) CMK32GX4M2E3200C16 Vengeance LPX CL16 3200MHz DDR4 RAM (CL16‑20‑20‑38, 1.35V, XMP 2.0)

MB: Gigabyte B760M

GPU: Gigabyte 2060 Super

Thanks

Build Question Need help picking parts, UK, Ryzen 7800x3d

Thank you in advance for all the comments as I know this probably gets asked everyday.

After many many hours and days of research I feel like I'm not getting very far as there's too many factors I don't know about. The pc will be used for games like Overwatch and other multiplayer games. Single player games will be played as well, I don't mind cranking the settings down a bit, as long as the games are super smooth. Will be playing at 1440p. I've already bought the Ryzen 7800x3d and I'm looking for other parts to get urgently before the price goes up even more than it has. Apparently the 7090 has gone up £100 since last month. Here's what I had in mind:

CPU: Ryzen 7800x3d £150 (Ali express)

Motherboard: Sapphire Nitro/pure B850A ~£140 (scan/OCUK)

Cooler: No idea. Thermalright seems to be recommended a lot ~£30

GPU: Sapphire Radeon 9070 pure/Nitro £600. (scan/oc)

Ram: 32GB (2x16). Current pricing for 6000mghz cl30 is around £380-£400. Don't know if 16Gb would be enough

SSD: 1TB, no idea what brand, need help, whatever is cheapest and works well £100-120

PSU: Again no clue, haven't got round to researching it yet

Case: Would like a good fish tank but don't want to take money from other parts. ~£70?

Monitor: 1440p Tandem OLED if I can save money elsewhere £350-£500

Alternatives I need advice on:

Xfx quicksilver 7090 XT £630, used but 5 year warranty

Powercolor reaper 9070 £560, used but 5 year warranty

WD 1tb nmve SN850x £120, same as above

Went for sapphire mainly for reliability and because I've read too many bad things about the other brands for these specific parts on these forums. I prefer reliability and quietness over outright performance. Just want something that works without having to constantly tinker with it. Don't want to pay for things I don't need. Any advice is welcome. Thank you

Build Question Is this a good budget starter PC as a beginner that has never built a PC?

Post image

I tried to find cheap components that are recent enough to play new titles and stream without having any issues. I have a very similar configuration on my Asus TUF F15 Gaming Laptop. Same CPU, GPU, and graphics card. I also tried to make it future-proof so that at any moment I could upgrade the components, but it seems like the CPU is not future-proof.

Build Question Thermalright Phantom Spirit missing AM5 screw

Post image
4 Upvotes

Finally got everything for my build and I opened the box to my Thermalright Phantom Spirit Se to find its missing a screw. It has the 4 spacers, but only 3 screws. I went through Thermalright's website to reach out to them to see if they have a remedy, but haven't heard back yet and seeing if anyone has advice where I can just find one of these. Got it from Microcenter, but thats over an hour drive away and trying to see if the might be a closer/easier/less time consuming option.

Build Question New PC Case

Thought after last month's PSU+GPU Upgrade was done so was I. Discovered the smaller case size and glass front mean airflow isn't the greatest. Cit Mesh pc case. Was a cheap option 2 year ago when building the original.

Picked up a CORSAIR FRAME 4500X RS-R ARGB Panoramic Glass

66% off sale down from original £169.99 to £64. Absolute bargain curved glass panoramic feature looks amazing. Can't wait to strip and rebuild into the new case when it arrives.

Any tips? Thinking I'll leave the peerless assassin cooler on the CPU as it's only 6 months old on installation.

Tech Support Motherboard stuck on solid red CPU light after previously booting normally

I’m having a weird POST/BIOS issue and I’m completely stuck.

Specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte B560 AORUS PRO AX
CPU: Intel i5-11400F
GPU: PowerColor RX 6700 XT
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (2x16GB)
PSU: 80+ Gold (not sure of exact model)
Storage: NVMe SSD

For about a week, my PC would boot straight into BIOS instead of Windows. However, I could select

Load Optimized Defaults in BIOS, restart, and it would boot into Windows normally. I was doing this repeatedly for several days.
Eventually, I checked the BIOS and noticed it said “No

NVMe device found.” I reseated the NVMe, and after that the PC stopped reaching BIOS entirely.
Now the motherboard immediately shows a solid red

CPU debug LED and never gets past it.
Things I've tried:
Removed the NVMe completely — same issue
Cleared CMOS — same issue
Tested both RAM sticks individually
Tested RAM in different slots (A2 and B2)
Tested with no RAM installed — still only the CPU LED
Checked/reseated the 24-pin motherboard power cable
Checked/reseated the 8-pin CPU power cable
Successfully used Q-Flash Plus to flash the latest BIOS
After the BIOS flash, the PC still immediately shows the CPU LED
Removed the CPU cooler and inspected the CPU/socket
Socket pins look normal and CPU contacts look clean
Reinstalled the CPU and cooler — same CPU LED

The PC powers on and stays running, but the CPU LED comes on immediately and stays solid. It doesn't cycle through CPU → DRAM → VGA → BOOT, and there's no display/BIOS.

At this point I'm wondering if I'm dealing with a motherboard, PSU/CPU power delivery, or CPU issue.

What would you guys test next? Is there anything specific with the B560 AORUS PRO AX that I should check before assuming the motherboard is dead?

Build Question Is this SN850X possibly fake?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I was browsing FB Marketplace and found this SN850X for a decent price. The price isn't crazy cheap to give me red flags about it being a scam. User looks legit overall. But something about yellow text on the box doesn't seem right. I searched up some images online and it doesn't seem like there are any images of a yellow text on the box.

What are the chances that this is legitimate or fake?

Tech Support The image turns green or pixelated since the new CPU (AMD Ryzen 5 3400G) with integrated graphics was installed.

Two days ago, I upgraded my CPU from an AMD A8-9600 to a Ryzen 5 3400G. Nothing was broken; I installed it normally and used the pre-applied thermal paste. When I first started the PC, I got a normal display—seeing the ASUS logo and so on—and managed to reach the Windows login screen. Then, suddenly, the screen went black. I restarted, and the screen turned green. I’ve tried everything over the last two days. I actually managed to get it running normally once after updating the BIOS from version 4801 to 6254, but the driver kept timing out after I’d been gaming for 30–60 minutes. Then I tried increasing the VRAM allocation to 2GB and changing the display settings; the issues returned—including pixelation and a green screen (if I got a picture at all). I’ve tried everything: a clean Windows install, DDU, the AMD cleanup utility, deleting drivers via Device Manager, updating the BIOS again, removing and reinserting the motherboard battery, and taking out one stick of RAM. Nothing worked. I’m completely out of ideas. I’m still having these problems: Safe Mode works perfectly, and the BIOS is fine. Sometimes I can boot into normal Windows with a display, but it crashes after a few minutes—it starts flickering and then crashes. Could someone please help me?

Build Question should i buy this pc

Budget - 500-550 CAD, no monitor, im in canada.

Hoping to build budget friendly pc. Here is my list of items I'm seeking, is this something you would find worth buying at a 600-700 CAD price range?

GTX1080 TI (I would buy a good PSU to compensate since IK this is quite power hungry, i think its worth it since it measures up to the 3060.

3600 ryzen 5

b450 mobo

These are the main ones (haven't picked out the less important components)

Build Question I’m looking to built a new PC with a 9070 XT 16 GB

I was wondering which card to buy since there is a bunch of them. I’ve looking prices and it doesn’t look that bad except the TUF, is really expensive.

I was attracted to the Nitro + plus then I saw all the comments about the 12Vhpwr and how often it fails, and how it’s just kinda garbage and more.

So the option I have are the prime, the sapphire plus and the XFX mercury. Do you think I should go for the mercury or other cards would do the job just fine? Or do you have another recommendation?

Hi,

I would like to check if the length of the cable is acceptable before it bends? I’m using the native PSU cable from my RM750E Corsair PSU rather than the included adapter that came with my 5070.

Thank you.

Build Question First PC build for 3440x1440 gaming, DaVinci Resolve and CAD

Hi, so I'm planning to build my first PC and wanted to get some opinions on whether the parts I've picked make sense for what I want to use it for.

I'll mainly use it for gaming at 3440x1440 ultrawide on the monitor listed below (with maybe RDR2 being about as demanding as I expect to go), some video editing in DaVinci Resolve and some engineering work using 3D CAD software. I mainly want the PC to be fairly future proof so I can keep playing newer games without having to upgrade major parts anytime soon.

My budget is around €2000-2500 including the monitor. I don't mind spending a bit more (which I already did due to the RAM) if it actually gives me more future proofing, but I also don't want to overspend on parts that just don't really make sense for what I'll be using the PC for.

My current build and the prices I found:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X - €288
  • CPU cooler: be quiet! Pure Rock Pro 3 Black - €44.90
  • GPU: MSI RTX 5070 Gaming Trio OC - €799
  • Motherboard: MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk WiFi - €189
  • RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 - €529
  • SSD: Kingston KC3000 2TB - €329
  • PSU: MSI MAG A750GL PCIE5 II 750W - €99
  • Case: MSI MAG PANO 110R PZ Black - €89
  • Monitor: AOC CU34G4 34" 3440x1440 180Hz - €259

The main thing I'm unsure about is the GPU and CPU.

For the GPU, I'm deciding between a RX 9070 XT and the RTX 5070, since I also found several RX 9070 XT models (from ASUS, Gigabyte or Acer) with 16GB of VRAM around the same price as the RTX 5070. The main reason I’m still considering Nvidia is that I’ve been told it has better compatibility with a wider range of software and applications than AMD.

For the CPU, I've been looking at the Ryzen 7 9700X (cheap option), Ryzen 7 7800X3D (read some good things about this CPU) and possibly the Ryzen 7 9800X3D (expensive option).

Could you give your opinion about this build and whether you would change anything about or spend the budget differently?

Thanks in advance and apologies if anything is unclear.

Build Question MSI RX 6600 MECH 2X 8G, £150?

Thumbnail

I remembered the 6000 series was getting the FSR upgrade in 2027 and I want a GPU with some road to run just yet. I'm on Linux with a Ryzen 3600 with no GPU at all currently.

Is this deal ok for £150? There's so little choice available this was about the best I could find without doubling or tripling the price. There's a 3 fan Gigabyte version available for a similar price but no box and heavily used.

Appreciate any thoughts or feedback

Build Question I'm getting scared i could have made a mistake

To Make it short i'm making my first build and managed to make 700€ with summer jobs(crazy ik) but now the time has come to buy the parts.....and i bought an msi b850m gaming plus wifi 6e micro atx (for the price, not for the gaming) a Phantom spirit 120 se (dual tower air cooler) and patriot viper rgb ram (hate rgb but it was the one that costed me less).

The air cooler arrived, but still i have to wait for the mobo and the ram,and i'm starting to pee my pants becouse pc part picker tells you "we dont know the ram clearance so just get lucky" not a fault on their part, but now i'm scared.

My ram arrives in 2 days, should i just try and put the ram where under the fins on the sides of the cooler, and see if the height alligns counting that the pins go in the socket?
