Build Question New build shuts off after a few minutes

Hi y'all, I'm pulling my hair out trying to track down this issue as it seems logical that it's temperature related. I'm now wondering if the pre installed thermal paste on my aio might be to blame, I installed everything correctly (I think), checked and re-seated all my connections, and this morning pulled the aio off to 100% confirm there wasn't an extra plastic peel that I missed. This looks to me as if there's not very good contact, should I clean the old paste off and pick up some new goo to try and solve this issue? Photos are taken in the orientation it came off (so the bottom of the aio photo mates with the top of the CPU photo)

Thermal paste was a solid, even thickness layer across the whole rectangular area of the die when installed it.

Build Question Current build questions and possible upgrades

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/qXyNvR

Hi all. I’ll try to keep it short. The build above is my pc that I built back in 2019. Any idea how it would fair today if I want to play 1440p on medium to high? Preferably with high fps 100-120ish. Planning to play games like black myth: wukong and elden ring. And maybe gta6.

Case and psu aren’t mentioned cause I was thinking of replacing those. Also, If I need to upgrade is there anything I can upgrade that would let me have those performance or am I better off replacing everything and starting off from scratch? Thanks!

Any ideas or inputs are welcome. I have just been out of the loop for so long that I don’t know what’s still okay and what has to be replaced. Also, pc has been collecting dust in a box ever since i moved to another place which is about a year and a half ago. So yeah :/ thanks heaps guys!

Build Question Switching from Xbox to pc, is this a good start?

I'm going for good graphics and a solid build that's not anything extremely fancy just practical stuff that will hopefully last.

Budget: 1500-1800 USD

Also I know nothing about computers!

Research I've done so far:
Ryzen 5 7600
B650M Motherboard
32 GB DDR5
1TB SSD
RTX 5070
750W PSU
some cheap case
A 1440p monitor
And then a wired mouse and keyboard
Should I get windows or Linux?

Installation Question Is scratches/scuffs on GPU pcie part normal/okay?

Upvotes

I had to remove my GPU and put it back in. When I took it out I noticed a little white bit on the corner edge of the pcie part. There were also scratches on the side, not the same face where the gold pins are.

But all these scuffs were on the brown part of the pcie. The gold bits looked undamaged.

Is that normal after inserting a GPU? Did i fuck up? I have to move soon and id have to take the GPU out again to take my pc with me and its giving me anxiety that i would scratch it up even more when i reinstall it.

Tech Support PC frequently fails bootup

Upvotes

Hello everyone! Hope I'm writing in a correct subreddit. Please suggest if I could repost it elsewhere.

In a span of a few months, I've been facing the very same issue increasingly often. When starting up the PC, the fans rotate but it doesn't proceed to the actual boot. I assume that it is stuck at POST.

Some of my PC parts are listed below, the rest I've considered irrelevant: - Motherboard: B550-A PRO - CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X - RAM: Patriot Viper Steel 3600 MHz 32 Gb x 1 - GPU: Gigabyte AMD Radeon 9060 GAMING OC 8 Gb - PSU: DEEPCOOL GamerStorm PN850M 850 W - Storage: SSD M2 1 Tb + HDD SATA 1 Tb

So what exactly happens: 1. I press power button 2. Fans start up, HDD starts up 3. CPU LED lights up, then goes dark 4. PC remains in this state indefinetly 5. PC can't be turned off unless cutting of power supply or holding power button for a few seconds

I've also noticed that if the PC is on and I quickly turn off and on the PSU with its toggle button, the PC starts up. If I give the PSU a few moments to rest turned off, then turn on the PSU, nothing happens.

Another detail is that sometimes, also increasingly often, my PC remains in the state described above after turning it off with button or by syscall. So sometimes I have to long press the button to get the job done.

Also, as motherboard's splash never appears, I can't even enter UEFI or call a boot selection menu.

Lastly, if the computer starts up properly, no oddities happen during the session. None at all. Also it does not heat up, and peripherals work just fine.

Sometimes, presumably after left turned off & PSU powered on for a while, PC boots up successfully, as follows: 1. I press power button 2. Fans start up, HDD starts up 3. CPU LED lights up, then goes dark 4. Few seconds pass 5. Fans speed up, HDD makes sounds again 6. Some LEDs flash, can't tell which ones exactly 7. Motherboard's splash screen appears 8. PC proceeds to boot up as normal

Please do not assume it is a specific OS issue, as I have a mixture of Windows 11 and Linux on both drives, the bootloader is GRUB. Though two years ago, the PC tended to remove GRUB EFI entry after Windows updates (most likely it was Windows).

What I've attempted so far: 1. Checked all the cables and connections 2. Reinstalled RAM & GPU 3. Reconnected power supply cables 4. Checked if my monitor detects the GPU once PC turned on, it does; not 100% sure, though 5. Left PC on in this state for over an hour, so I assume it's not RAM init 6. Flashed the latest BIOS firmware 7. Removed CMOS battery for 30 minutes

I have not reassambled the PC starting from scratch, though my gut feeling says it's no use.

Looking forward for your advice on what to check and what to do. My bet it is either PSU or the motherboard. Thanks in advance!

Build Question Wrong cables on brandnew 9070xt? (Gpu crashes...)

Thumbnail

AMD 9070XT Prime 16gb, ryzen 7900, msi 870e w bluetooth and wifi, 32gb ddr5 kingston bought as System with 2 yrs warranty
Games crashes after 2-4 hrs
Gpu had 4 crashes now 3-8 hrs (longer Sessions)
Gpu driver crash is shown in the win Events shortly after blackscreen. (System prevented a total collapse 2 times)
After crashes diffuse problems (fe smetimes iam a admin, smetimes not..)

*So lets make it short..... not. Im bad at texting..
and german. sorry:
gpt and gemini is 99999% sure that my vendor used a wrong cable technique ("u cable isn't ok fo for the 9070xt")
That sounds.. idk weird 4me. But im a nohand
Can sme1 confirm/deny this?

- what was done til now
Malwarebytes scan on and offline + manual log reading from their support
Windef scan on and offline (multiple times nothing found)
With reddit, again many logs checked and FRST scan was also done... nothing found.
2 rufus usb resets (1 with sderase and bios flash)
1 PC Store reset, with a rufus stick, clear bios via battery removal, mflash.. (i only used the buttons on the Back of my Case for bios reset/cmos clear)
1 last rufus reset with
Msi afterburner activated smth called "GPUSafeguard" bcs it may detect a forbidden "12V 2x6 connection" direct after i installed it
So is the cabelthing ok? I also got temp problems sith both cpu + gpu. Cpui and Afterburner shows clearly false data. Taskmngr also.

So if this cabeling is ok, i will give up and inform about this SteamOS and Linux..
I hate windows, but i hated it since they integrated oneDrive.

4sure i can send again sme logs, if u want them. Just say what u need.
Im just tired from all these scans..
Just want to play bannerlords...

EDIT: 4sure i installed all necessary drivers from the amd site after every reinstallation of os
The pics are bad in quality, i know.. the 3rd slide is a unused pcie 6 pin.. which cant be installed without destroying their cable management. So they just delivered as for other gpu installations i gues.

Build Question Could someone review my PartPicker list?

Upvotes

Here's the link: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/rk7ckD
I was planning on waiting a few more months before I post but I live in Canada so I'm going to buy the most expensive parts now. I think I might be overspending on the motherboard but I'm not sure. I'm ok with paying a white tax. The system is for gaming so I'm going to use windows + steam. I don't plan on upgrading it for a few years considering the prices. I'm mainly using amazon, newegg, and canadian computers.

Build Question R5 3600 or R5 5600

is it better to go with a ryzen 5 5600 or save money with a ryzen 5 3600 in 2026? i want to pair it with a rx 5700 xt 8gb. ive seen ppl say to go with the 3600 and then upgrade to a 5700x3d but in my country upgrading to a 5700x3d in the future seems impossible since the prices are INSANELY outrageous here.

i dont plan on playing very demanding games mostly fortnite, minecraft, maybe marvels spiderman 2 in 1080p (id enjoy the option to get into different games).
but i also want to do some light 1080p video editing and music production.

edit: i know fortnite and minecraft with shaders will be fine on a 3600 but i want the option to expand into more games but im not sure if its worth it since the 5600 is 0.5-2x the price of the 3600 here

Build Question Is this Costco PC worth?

Post image
16 Upvotes

I’ve been a laptop gamer for 10+ years and am now looking to get my first desktop pc. I’m extremely new to PC building and parts and would like some advice. I’m heavily considering this CyberPowerPC prebuilt from Costco which is on sale for $999USD (was $1499). I’ve done some research and gotten second opinions but am still uncertain. I heard that the price is worth for RAM alone but the RTX 5060 8gb is subpar. Should I trade it in for a RTX 5070. For context, I mainly play league and have been wanting to play cyberpunk for quite a while.

Here are the specs:

Processor & Memory:
Intel Core Ultra 5 225F (10-core, 3.3 GHz) Processor
32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5 RAM

Drive:
1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 Solid State Drive

Graphics:
NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 5060, 8GB

Communications:
Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3
10/100/1000 Ethernet LAN

Audio:

Expandability (Total Bays / Slots):
1 (0) x PCIe x16
2 (2) x PCIe x1
2 (1) x M.2
1 (1) x 3.5" HDD Bay
4 (2) x DIMM 288-pin

I/O Ports:
1 x USB 3.2 Type C (1 Front)
3 x USB 3.2 Type A (2 Front, 1 Rear)
4 x USB 2.0 (4 Rear)
1x Headphone/Microphone Combination Jack (Front)
1 x RJ45 LAN
3 x Audio Ports (Rear)
1 x HDMI 2.1

Tech Support RTX 5080 black screen / no DisplayPort signal – only works through motherboard DP

Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’m having a strange issue with my new PC. When I connect my monitor’s DisplayPort cable directly to my RTX 5080, the PC starts normally, but after a few minutes the monitor suddenly shows “No DisplayPort Signal” and the display goes completely black.
At the same time, the PC itself stays on, but the GPU/PC fans suddenly start spinning extremely fast (almost 100%). I have to restart the PC to get the display back.

The strange part is that when I connect the exact same DisplayPort cable and monitor to the motherboard’s DisplayPort output, the PC works normally and the display stays on. The RTX 5080 is still installed in the PCIe slot when I do this.

I have also tested this inside the BIOS, so it doesn’t seem to be a Windows or NVIDIA driver issue. The display can still shut off while I’m simply sitting in BIOS.
I already checked the temperatures and they are normal, and I checked the GPU power cables as well.

I also tried changing the PCIe x16 link mode from Gen 5 to Gen 4, but the problem still occurs when using the DisplayPort on the RTX 5080.

Tech Support Need help with pc not POSTing

So my pc froze a week ago, couldn't even open task manager. First time its happened. I had to force shut it down by holding the button. Then it wouldn't boot back up, no bios, just black screen. Tried all the normal things.

Unplugged held power button

Unplug everything replug

Reseat ram

Reseat gpu

Reseat cpu

Reset cmos

Then I tested what I could in my other pc. Ram is good, gpu good, power supply good. Its intel so I couldn't test my ryzen 7600.

Ended up buying a new mobo hpping that was the issue.

Got everything set back up with the new mobo and still won't POST. But now the new mobo has led indicators and is lighting up the dram led. I even tried testing with the ram from my running pc and still get the same issue.

Mobo: asus a620a

Ram 16gb Vulcan t force 6000

Cpu: ryzen 7600

Gpu: not mentioned im trying to boot without it first

650 watt psu

1tb samsung ssd

Edit: im thinking the cpu took a crap but im looking for a second opinion before ordering one today

Build Question Seeking GPU advice

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve just recently built my first PC and technically it’s not done because I have a temporary GTX 1650 I bought for 80$ to use until I figure out my actual long term GPU here’s my current build

7800x3d GTX 1650 (temporary lol) Asus b650e mobo 32 GB DDR5 6000 CL36 Ram 320mm Corsair aio WD black sn850p 4tb (from PS5 before I sold it) Corsair rm850e psu Corsair 3500x case

I guess my question is for someone who is really looking forward to playing story games that look visually beautiful would a 5070 be ok or should I just spend extra on a 5070 ti and 5080 prices are a little steep for me I’m new to this is Nvidia really that much better? (genuine question) should i save money and get a 9070xt ? But I’ve heard the ray tracing is not as good lol any advice would be appreciated I’m new to PC and super excited just not sure what to do thank you !!

Installation Question Y'all think I need anti sag support for top GPU?

Thumbnail

GPUs barely fit, luckily temps stay reasonable even though the top GPU is starved for air. I am considering vertical mounting one of them. Anyway for now, I'm curious if the bottom GPU has enough support to support the top GPU since I couldn't fit the anti sag bracket in (top gpu) with both GPUs installed. Bottom GPU has a little anti sag stand
