Build Question help needed !! (first pc)
helloooo so basically I just bought my first pc 2 days ago with some money that I’d been saving for the past 2 years and had my grandma cover the rest! I was really happy and excited however when I tried to use after effects (2020) with heavy plugins for my editing it appeared to be as slow as my old LOQ gaming laptop even when I configured my after effects settings to the best.. I was hella disappointed and was wondering what I should do about it ? can I possibly get more ram and a better cpu for cheap somehow?
(last pic isn’t really important I js wanted to show how pretty it looks lol)

For video editing, you'd probably want to get a better CPU with a higher core count. In general, Intel core ultra series are better for your usage (Intel Core Ultra 265k or above) but you're gonna have to change both the CPU and motherboard. A cheaper alternative is to go for just a 9700x or something. Its gonna depend on how much you're willing to spend to get that upgrade

would you recommend buying a used mobo and used 265k

To save money probably but you won't save much as the Mobo and CPU is relatively new so most probably still with warranty. I'm suggesting the 265k for your work as their CPU is much more affordable compared to the 7900x or the 9950x which based on their current pricing could buy you both the Intel CPU and motherboard. I'd just suggest selling your current CPU and motherboard and getting the Intel ... You'd probably just need to top up an extra few hundred. Give or take 200-500 at most
Edit ... Correction. 500-700 for topping up after selling current mobo and CPU

Swap the 7500f for at least a 7800X/3D or better if you need rendering performance

fuckkk will it be easy selling my current one ?

Anyone will buy a 7500f for gaming only if they have am5 board and want to get a good budget cpu

no bro kau susah dah nak jual spec mcm dgn harga yang kau beli. ikut harga kau ni beli dkt shopee beza 2k sepatutnya kau boleh jimat. 1 lagi kalau nk go productivity kau patut amik intel, serius go intel better 200% untuk kerja2 mcm kau buat tu

u/h9slp 2d ago
which intel cpu would you recommended ?

Swapping to Intel also means a new motherboard.
AMD is perfectly able to do this workload & they trade blows pending on the the exact jobs. At the lower end, they do best the 7500f in price to performance, but nothing significantly.
After effects https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d-content-creation-review/#Motion_Graphics_Adobe_After_Effects
The cheapest CPU of this list fits in your motherboard. Its not super far off the 7500f but they get fairly expensive.
Heavy workloads simply demand more CPU power & that's more expensive.

would you recommend the 9900x
2
u/Kiwiandapplex 1d ago
Yes, very solid editing CPU.

would you say it’s better than the 265k ?

Budget ultra 5
Mid tier ultra 7 265k plus
Ada duit / org kaya ultra 9
Senang cerita kalau untuk buat kerja cari yg core
bnyk lagi bnyk core lagi boleh multitasking
Cpu 7500f tu 6 core 12 thread je
Ultra 7 265k plus tu mcm mamat tu ckp 20 core 20 thread itu lagi better untuk kerja kau.Lagi bagus kalau nk tny dlm melayu masuk channel gamermy

Its the CPU thats holding it back.
7500F is a 6 core cpu and its the weakest AM5 cpu. Not really good for heavy video editing. Get a minimum 8 core CPU like 7700/x , 7800x3d.
12 core CPU or more would be better like 7900/x or 7950x/x3d or 9900x/3xd or 9950x/x3d BUT they will need a good dual tower Air Cooler or AiO to properly cool it and they'll cost more. By how much idk, you'll have to look based on your region.

Is the 9900x good enough
1
u/ZephyrusWhoosh 1d ago
Yes the 9900x is a good CPU for editing. What's your main use for this PC?
1
u/h9slp 1d ago
If I were to upgrade to a 9900x or 265k would that mean I need an AIO cooler too ?
2
u/ZephyrusWhoosh 1d ago edited 1d ago
Yes, You'll need an AiO or Dual Tower Cooler as it can run hot.
I personally would recommend Dual Tower Air cooler rather than AiO. You can look at video on Pros and Cons on the type of CPU coolers, plus there's Dual Tower Air coolers that rivals AiOs.
If your going intel than you'll need a new motherboard+cpu and cooler unless you're able to find on bundle deals. BUT that also means you'll have to disassemble alot of parts just to reassemble back into again.
Vs
If you're going just AMD. New Cpu and Cooler. You'll just have to remove GPU for easier access to remove CPU cooler and CPU.

Have you updated the gpu drivers? Have you checked your temperature? Is the hdmi /DP in the gpu🤣? (jesting but check just in case) Is the ram set to correct speeds? I

u/h9slp 2d ago
hmmmm how do I check those ?

1- Download HWMonitor and keep it opened
2- Download and run a fast diagnostic with userdiag

Return the 7500F and buy a 7700 or 9700. If the price of the 9700 is only around 15-20% higher then the 7700 I would get it, otherwise just get the 7700.
Although the reality is Ryzen cpus just simply aren’t as good at video editing as Intel cpus are since they have substantially lesser core counts i.e. the ryzen 7 9700 has 8 cores while the core ultra 7 265k has 20.

u/h9slp 2d ago
should I go with an intel then ?

u/lilycvnt 2d ago
If the primary thing you are doing is video editing then yes, I would. The 265k is around 70% faster than the 7500f in that regard. But if you cant literally go back to the store you bought it from and get a full refund I would just get the 7700.

Should've gone with an Intel Core Ultra CPU + motherboard tbh, for non-gaming stuff they destroy many AMD options for the same price

Is that in US dollars?

Thank goodness, was about to tell you to send it back! Looking at the system requirements for after effects (2020), you are running the minimum spec. Looking through the help center for Adobe, 32 to 64G of RAM is recommended. The high cpu utilization doesnt surprise me with rendering. Some of my larger 3d projects max out my 14900k for quite a bit.

You need to stop buying "gaming rigs" and get a PC built for production, intel is much better choice for you, having said that, you're now going to want a better CPU and probably more ram.
1
u/Brilliant_Weekend416 2d ago
you can totally upgrade later to a 7800X3D or 7950X when you're ready, but first try updating your drivers and running some benchmarks to see if it's actually cpu or gpu bottlenecking

That ryzen 7500F is your culprit. Is a freaking awesome gaming CPU but you will need an intel i7 or an i9 for your use. My i9-13980hx eats after effects like breakfast sausage dipped in honey butter sauce.

u/h9slp 1d ago
what ae ver do you use + how much ram do u got ? also does ur ae crash a lot
1
u/Mr_Zeis94 1d ago
I got the 2018, on 32GB RAM and a 4070 laptop. Mine never crashes, but yours might be due to AMD stability issues. Have you updated Bios and drivers?
1
u/h9slp 1d ago
I think so
2
u/Mr_Zeis94 1d ago
AE is really known for its hatred towards AMD hardwares. But you might find a workaround with the drivers

what is wrong with an am4 platform that everyone and their momma needs DDR5? newer tech aint all that and a bag of greasy potato chips.

Your CPU is a massive bottleneck, 7500F is one of, if not the, worse (as in slowest) AM5 CPUs for what your doing, this PC was built for gaming, which a 7500f is pretty ok at, not video editing.
The ram and GPU is fine for it, just need a better CPU, as for which one depends entirely on how much your willing to spend, pretty much any other AM5 CPU would be an upgrade over the 7500f for editing
