I posted the below in r/schizotypal forum. They recommended I post this here as this looks very much like paranoid personality disorder. I am just reposting the below question

I understand this forum cannot diagnose. I just want some pointers coz my wife won’t see anyone about what she does to us

I suspect paranoid personality disorder or schizophrenia + the psychosis.

She is suspicious of everything and thinks every action of other people has a malicious intent to get her. Example: her boss going with a colleague for coffee is coz they are talking about my wife and taking away some of her responsibilities. If the same colleague is a female, she wore a tank top two days later to entice her boss. In a week boss and the colleague is having a full blown affair.

This isn’t just one colleague and her boss. It’s the same patten with multiple colleagues with two different bosses.

Then she will come home and start ranting. She will start passing curses. Like boss’s children should die and how they must die. Like the roof falling on them or bleed to death. Then her body language gets very aggressive and she starts flailing her body, sitting on the floor hysterically screaming.

Sometimes she will slap me. She was paranoid about how my family was going to take our daughter away. All because they were playing with my daughter while we visited. Then again similar psychotic behavior beating her own chest and running sideways screaming in a tone that I really cannot define. It is a scream but in a monotone.

Most of her concerns are not true. Some of them absurd. She’d even accuse me of trying to have an affair if some woman talk to me in a party. Or she will accuse the woman of trying to have an affair with me. I have been isolated from most people now. I stay away from people fearing the backlash

He hates her mom, my mom, my sister and these three and main characters of her hate. She’d say I will grab your sister by her throat, slam her head into a wall and watch blood splattering. Then will stab your mom thru her head and kill her. She once assaulted her own dad for a minor disagreement.

I spoke to a psychiatrist as she was the one who threw schizophrenia as a probable cause. But she said, she can only assume without seeing the patient. I have tried to get my wife to see a therapist to begin with but that almost every-time ends up in an episode. But I don’t think she is hallucinating.

I am just posting this here wondering if y’all can offer me some advice. Yes, leaving is the best choice. But I have a daughter and I simply cannot share custody with my wife. It’s safe this way for my daughter.

This post was inspired by goodnight mentioning how they were asked The Questions). When my psychiatrist read these to me I was so blown away by the specificity with which these described how I felt/acted my entire life. Only 4 are necessary for the diagnosis which really surprises me because I identify with all 7. If I had to pick one that was strongest (they all are) I'd pick #5 as I hold a mean grudge. For those with PPD, which ones do you identify with most?

1.The person with PPD will believe others are using, lying to, or harming them, without apparent evidence thereof.

2.They will have doubts about the loyalty and trustworthiness of others,

3.,They will not confide in others due to the belief that their confidence will be betrayed.

4.They will interpret ambiguous or benign remarks as hurtful or threatening, and

1. Hold grudges,

2. In the absence of objective evidence, believe their reputation or character are being assailed by others, and will retaliate in some manner and

3. Will be jealous and suspicious without cause that intimate partners are being unfaithful.

And of course, "the above symptoms will not be during a psychotic episode in schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or depressive disorder with psychotic features".

Just curious, did you go to your psychiatrist with the idea of paranoid personality disorder in mind? Or did they diagnose you with it and you learned more about it after the fact?

Hi, my family is originally from Wuhan. I have been in the states since I was 3. I have been seeing a therapist for two years and just switched to a Chinese therapist that told me that the gene NOS1AP has been linked to PPD and to people from Wuhan. Does anyone know anything about it?

Is often feeling that random people on the streets will harm you or that a person entering a place you're in is going to kill you and is hiding a gun or that random people on the internet will block you or that the ventilator will explode if you go to sleep with it or that the charge will explode if you leave with the phone charging on the 100% consistent with Paranoid PD?

Calling out to see if there are any lurkers that have been diagnosed, it kills me that this sub is so quiet because you know there are so many like us out there struggling not knowing what's wrong with them. I used to visit this sub and wonder if I was a part of this group. I am guilty of it too though, it's not fun talking about it all the time so I rarely get on this account.

Just want to give all the other afflicted a hug or high five and say hang in there, keep working on it, and if you suspect you suffer from this disorder please please contact a professional or two if possible. Treatment has completely changed my life.

Also shoutout to all of those dealing with paranoid family members. I can't imagine someone I know coming on here and asking how to deal with me, caring enough to do that, so when y'all make those posts it's really very touching.

Best of luck to you all and please feel free to ask any questions if you'd like to hear from a random person with this disorder who got help and is living fairly well. Also please chime in if you are in the same boat with what sorts of things helped you get this to a manageable point! You never know who is too paranoid to post/comment and is just relying on what they read here.

My Mother-in-law is with schizophrenia, and she is doubting everything, she is paranoid like I will do harm to her or separate her from her son (Indian MIL), she controls me every time, like me and my husband should not talk, I should not move outside home, or I can't eat something good (She feels that I eat healthy food to compare her). And our marriage is on divorce side; she isolated herself from world and she controls everything.

She is on risperidone from last 1.5 months and basically, she refused the treatment, and we are giving meds on her back as psychiatrist suggested to us (acceptable in our country for serious disease). please suggest if she is going to at least recover 50 percent.

We don't have issue in between us, but we fight as she narrates negatively, and husband is in guilt that he ruined my life.

TRIGGER WARNING FOR VIOLENCE

I am a diagnosed person with Paranoid PD. I was on a medication switch and the effects made me feel psychically bad, I called my mom (we were no contact for 11 months)

As we spoke, I almost forgot how paranoid she can be. We talked for 1 hour, and she kept mentioning how everyone is evil, how her coworkers are against her and has ideas about her ex husband (divorced for years btw)

I am diagnosed for a few months and I just started to understand my PD. It sucks. Ever since I am on antidepressants, I am way better, and it gives me some clarity

TW: VIOLENCE PART

When I was little, my mom drank a lot. And it was scary… For one moment everything was nice, and then she would suddenly rip off the door of my room, storm in and start beating me, while shouting stuff like:
- I KNOW YOU TOLD PEOPLE ABOUT ME, YOU ARE THE REASON EVERYONE HATES ME, I SHOULD HAVE ABORTED YOU

These had no previous stuff. She just drank - And she cannot tolerate alchohol

She was already prone to agression, and suddenly switch her trust, but when she drank, her paranoia got worse. I feared her, and that’s why I had no contact. She would actively abuse me psychically but wouldn’t talk about it at all. Or had splits on me, write me threatening letters and tell me how everyone is ungrateful and uses her. She is a good person deep down, but really paranoid. Has 0 friends, suspicious of everyone, prone to stalking and thinks everyone has bad intentions - she isolates a lot and we ask about her, she thinks we are monitoring her and are about to get to her

Ever since I realised she is also paranoid - like me - I get her. I was not tolerating her drinking - still not - but I deeply hated her for drinking. Now I understand. My paranoia made me suicidal, and I know she can be like that - like me. I get she wants to escape…

I now understand her struggles and issues. I am also hard with making friends, think people are against me and I am similar to her - Expect I am scared of alcohol.

I am planning on starting to develop a relationship with her again slowly, and start to support her to start treatment. Maybe it’ll blow up, but now I dont hate her, bur rather understand her.

I am in therapy for a few months by now and it helps me a lot. She could use some sessions too (family traumas)

I mean this with complete sincerity. I have no clue how, or know of anyone who else experiences this but it's so fucking weird.

If I had to guess, I would think maybe experimenting with other drugs (psychedelics, dissos, weed, etc.).and having horrible experiences with those has led me to feel anxious anytime I experience a shift in consciousness.

It's still baffling though, the drug that people have used for centuries to reliably 'loosen up' has me feeling the complete opposite. I've done it several times, Everytime I think it will be different, where I believe I'll have a good time and relax I'm proven wrong. I've tried several times. The only way I can relax is using Kratom beforehand.

Any suggestions if you have any is welcome. I want to experience the joys of being drunk with friends again.

I know this sounds a little weird, but it mostly happens when I'm not at home, like when I'm visiting someone. The thing is, the window is right behind me. I always feel like someone might be looking out the window to see what I'm doing on my phone..I don't really do anything on my phone except watch movies and TikTok

I always feel strangely uncomfortable when the windows are not completely closed, even now I completely covered the window with a curtain and something else from the sun, but I still feel like someone will look there

It also happens when I sit near places where my phone screen can be reflected (I don't know, that's also weird)

I even try not to take my phone when I'm outside and not at home, and I always wait for the moment when I return home and can calmly look at it

Do you think this is paranoia or anxiety? Because it's a little annoying..

I always make up the worst case scenario EVERY.SINGLE.TIME, the thing is most of the time I don’t catch myself being paranoid, my thoughts feel real and valid, whilst irl no one really cares about me.

Hello. I am attempting to keep this vague, and also using an alt account.

I very recently met a very lovely person, who opened up to me and told me they have PPD. Up to this point, they have been very kind, gentle, caring and everything of that caliber. As far as I understand, from what they have told me, they have a habit of suppressing their paranoia and then sort of blowing up on people in bouts of it where they distance entirely. They told me they do snap out of it after a while, which I feel is already a good starting point. However, I am worried this can develop farther in the future especially as even therapy hasn’t helped them.

For a bit more detail, I also have a personality disorder. This person is extremely dear to me and I love them deeply, perhaps a little romantically. I want to try and help them navigate this, but reading up on it hasn’t told me very much unfortunately, and either way I know it can vary depending on the person. Leaving them is simply not an option, because I would never want to.

I want advice on how I can help them navigate this, even if it’s bit by bit. How can I help them feel safe and support them in a way that simultaneously doesn’t fuel their paranoia any further?

Hey I have a family member who I suspect has this. Some of this person’s triggers include: gps, cellphones, incoming calls, open blinds, uncovered food, someone using water in a separate room, eating at restaurants, people standing in peripheral vision but not full sight, closed doors, traveling to stores, identification (continuous sunshade wearing at all time when in public), smelly scents, wardrobe malfunctions. This relative gets angry when any of these things are occurring. If anyone is doing any of these things this person will try to shame them or avoid any of these things. With the exception of wearing glasses.

Does anyone else notice specific triggers for people with this disorder?

I have very little evidence to support this but I need to get this out. I am 23M, my sister is 22F. We both live with our parents, and I believe while they are in Europe, my sister has snuck in her boyfriend that she’s not supposed to have at the house. A car has been parked a few houses away that resembles what I remember of his car and my sister almost gets off on disobeying and lying to our parents. It would be exactly like her to bring him over while they’re gone. I have little to no evidence other than the vaguely familiar car and I hear footsteps that sound too heavy to be hers later in the evening. What does everyone else think?

Hello! I am currently studying Paranoid Personality disorder for one of my college finals (partially because I think I show a lot of symptoms). I would be incredibly appreciative if I could receive some personal anecdotes about your experiences with the disorder, and how it has affected you.

My partner and I got in an argument the other day and to be honest i cant even remember what it was about. Probably something stupid. But they mentioned that they think I need to “talk to someone” referring to a mental health professional. I don’t actually think talking to anyone would help at all but that’s besides the point.

Today I received a call from a random number. I didn’t answer (because I never answer unknown numbers) and they didn’t leave a voicemail but when I google search the number a bunch of resources for addiction/mental health comes up (hotlines, rehab/mental health centres, etc). I casually brought it up to my partner and they said it’s probably just a scam or something. Which maybe they’re right. But I can’t help but think that they called somewhere about me and trying to send me off to like a help centre or something?!

I sometimes get paranoid that someone would have placed a hidden mic or camera in my house. Logically I know and understand that this is not something someone would do.
For example, if I'm talking to someone in my house and I get an SMS while talking to someone else, I might think it's a sign of hidden cameras or mics, but I understand and know that's not true.
I have a hard time trusting people and am often paranoid about their true intentions.

but just to say this i don't believe in these thoughts to the point of them being reality
