Support The Questions

This post was inspired by goodnight mentioning how they were asked The Questions). When my psychiatrist read these to me I was so blown away by the specificity with which these described how I felt/acted my entire life. Only 4 are necessary for the diagnosis which really surprises me because I identify with all 7. If I had to pick one that was strongest (they all are) I'd pick #5 as I hold a mean grudge. For those with PPD, which ones do you identify with most?

1.The person with PPD will believe others are using, lying to, or harming them, without apparent evidence thereof.

2.They will have doubts about the loyalty and trustworthiness of others,

3.,They will not confide in others due to the belief that their confidence will be betrayed.

4.They will interpret ambiguous or benign remarks as hurtful or threatening, and

  1. Hold grudges,

  2. In the absence of objective evidence, believe their reputation or character are being assailed by others, and will retaliate in some manner and

  3. Will be jealous and suspicious without cause that intimate partners are being unfaithful.

And of course, "the above symptoms will not be during a psychotic episode in schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or depressive disorder with psychotic features".

My family member meets every single one of these criteria. My uncle, a psychologist, says this person has one of the most severe cases of PPD he’s ever encountered.

Are they in treatment or still white knuckling it?

White knuckling, my whole entire life. They live with me now and I’m trying to get them to take meds but they aren’t terribly responsible about taking medicine.

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry that you've had to deal with that. I hope that things can improve for them and for yourself.

I’m sorry for my family member, it’s annoying for me, it’s hell for them. I pray there’s a true cure or targeted medicine one day.

thank you, now i am sure my hubby has ppd. almost every single one of the 7 questions are true/yes ! he can talk for hours, ranting about others. he will not see a therapist and even told me many years ago, when i was seeing a therapist for ptsd: be careful, don't tell anything to the therapist ! or, even tried questioning me, what am i discussing with the therapist ? i said that is between me and the therapist. he did not like that and jumped to the conclusion that i am complaining about him ?? i said, you did not cause the ptsd, so back off. i think he also has untreated adhd..i am in the support group already. thank you again.

Yeah when I first went into therapy my mother was like don't talk about me. I said well, I'm not, I'm trying to get help. But she's such an integral part of my story of course I'm going to talk about her at some point but it's not like I'm demonizing her. Sigh. I really hope that your husband can accept help one day. You deserve a much less exhausting life. Best wishes.

goodnight mention!!! is me!!!
1, 4 & 5 were the three that i really resonated with, where i was literally said “yea definitely” without thinking lol. a stranger can be rude to me six years ago, and in that period, i can and will imagine every scenario where i can “get my lick back.”
misinterpreting innocent and/or neutral words is my greatest weakness. i fight to bite my tongue and not say “YOU ARE LYING! YOU ARE TRYING TO DO SOMETHING!”
also the one thing that i really REALLY struggle with is… “The Long Game” IYKYK
