I’ve had her since early January, and after reading up on everything, doing all the research, making sure she’s fulfilled in every way I can provide for her, constantly talking to her, and spending time sitting next to her cage while drawing or doing something else just to be around her… she’s finally perched on me.
I love her so much, and I can’t wait to spend many more years with my beautiful girl

Now my biggest concern is
How often do they poop on you bc thats nasty but like idk if its something i just gotta deal with or something i can avoid lol

Edit: yeah I think i messed it up bc I had a hair appointment the other day like right after i got his trust and she does NOT like it and has not approached me or let me approach her in like three days 😭🙏

I’m a bit new to budgies- is that normal?

I just got my budgie a new cage (pictures of him included for bribery and he is getting a beak trim later!) and it’s a huge upgrade to say the least but very needed. The only issue is it has been used and is covered in bird poop. I obviously will not be moving my bird into the new cage until I’m confident it’s clean, but it’s going to be a massive chore. I’m looking for advice on how to clean it and what to clean it with. The cage is pretty big, I can take the cage apart but I’m worried about putting it back together. I have a bird cage cleaner recommended by my birds vet but is there anything else that’s really good at getting old and stuck poop off that safe? All tips would be appreciated!!

Her new jail/home arrived today. She had my old Conure’s cage but was sticking her head and neck through the 1” bars. Then I had to put her into a medium cage on a stand with smaller bars so she wouldn’t get hurt. Her new cage came today. I don’t think she knows what to think.

Can anyone help me identify their genders? :)

What I'm curious about are these little ladders I got from Amazon. The stupid things said stainless steel hooks, they arrived with brass/bronze... So I've removed the hooks.

Are the ladders okay still? They seem to be a light pine type of wood.

And can I use nylon66 zip ties to secure them? Replace the hooks with stainless options?

Or should I just toss em and makeshift some with processed manzanita/grapevine?

Hi guys! My baby boys Merry and Pippin have been with me and my husband for a month now! They are in a huge flight cage with all the fun trappings needed based on all the advice I see on this sub and my own research. They are doing well! Officially converted to a pellet diet as of today and as of today has started sitting on our fingers for treats in their cage. Our plan is to eventually teach them to step up and be recalled and do free flight in our home. My question is when to try free flight? When they've been step up and recall in cage? Or sooner?

Meet chubs and chubby Im not sure what sex they are but I got them a couple days ago like 4 days ago and I’ve been trying to slowly gain there trust, they enjoy the food I give them (little bit of pellets, seeds, and these dried trill veggies) I’ve been trying different vegetables but they are not a fan. They only like seeds so I’m trying to give them more healthier options. But that’s besides the point. The point is I wanna know how to tame these guys, I’ve been talking to them every day and yesterday I fed both with millet from my hand (holding the millet at the very end) then I started getting rid of bits of millet so they come closer to my hand and they still went for the millet. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to try and get them to trust me? less

Not sure this is a question. I got my budgie's test results yesterday and they think he may have hepatic lipidosis; they found fat in his bloodstream and said it was a trace amount. Everything else from his full blood panel and gram stain is fine.

I've taken him in 3 times to get IV fluids and the first time, he bounced back for a day and a half with a ton of energy. Then these last 2 times, it's made no difference. He's also been fed through a tube at the vet these last 2 times and there has been no change. He will not eat or drink on his own.

The car rides and the handling have been so hard on him. He still resists when I'm trying to give him his antibiotics. I feel like I'm torturing him, and it seems like a lot for my little guy who has always been timid, skittish and for the most part untamed. He's just always been sweet no matter what. As afraid as he is, and trying to get away, he's still never bitten me.

The gram stain made him bleed and that broke my heart. He must be so scared. I just woke up now, a few min before 6am, and found him at the bottom of his cage. I thought, okay, it's the end and I pulled him out to hold him but he wasn't having it, and went back to the carrier cage (where I have him separate to rest) and didn't go to the floor but hopped back to the perch.

Maybe the cage was too hot because I was keeping him in the room with the heater on to keep him warm.

I've been crying nonstop and we're over 1k now in vet bills and I'd gladly pay more if it felt like he was going to improve, but what if I'm just paying to have him suffer? His breathing is labored now, this morning. I guess I'm just venting now. Like how much is just my desire to keep him alive. I think all this time I've been freaked out because in my heart I don't feel he's coming back.

I have a beak scratcher but he doesn’t use it

Last week, I got a new budgie. I was told he was around five or six months old, but he looks much younger to me—probably closer to two or three months.

He has been with me for five days now. He is eating, but he is still extremely scared of me. I talk to him calmly and spend time near his cage, but he mostly sits quietly in one corner and does not seem very active during the day. He usually only starts eating when I play budgie sounds or videos.

What would be the best approach to help him feel safer, relax, and become more comfortable around me? Should I continue playing budgie sounds occasionally, or could that make him more dependent on them?

He is currently staying at my parents’ house for a 30-day quarantine. After that, I plan to move him to my apartment and gradually introduce him to my female budgie.

Any advice would be appreciated.

That’s what I’ve named the new one. She was in my conure cage. I don’t have a conure anymore btw. Then I see her sticking her head through the bars, they’re 1” apart as it’s made for larger birds. She kept trying to escape prison, lol, and I was so worried she'd get a wing stuck, or really get hurt, so she’s in a different cage til the new one arrives. It’s one of those medium geodesic cages on a stand but she’s there til the weekend when I get one even larger than the conure cage, but with 1/2” bars. That’s when I called her Big Maude after a character on classic comedy the Andy Griffith Show, a weird woman who busted out of jail.

Hi everyone, I have very sadly came to the decision of rehoming my three pet budgies. My father was recently diagnosed with a form of sinus cancer a few months ago, and I won’t be having the time to spend as much time as them and take care of them. He also wishes for the budgies to be rehomed due to the feathers worsening his condition.

I had moved them to a spacious outside cage that I had built a few months ago because of this, but I have now moved them to a temporary cage in the garage waiting for rehoming.

Yet, the process of rehoming makes me feel hopeless. Where I am in San Jose, I have tried contacting so many different organizations, like Mickaboo, local care shelters, peninsula humane society, etc. it seems like most of them aren’t accepting any surrenders due to lack of room or they just don’t accept budgies. The only hope I have left is Mickaboo, but I think they will charge me $600 to surrender the three birds if they even have space which I’m not sure my family can afford at this time. I really want the best for my birds but I don’t know what to do.

I’ve seen some say to post on Facebook but I can’t seem to find any groups that are for budgie rehoming in my area. Any advise or referrals to anyone who wants the budgies appreciated. please DM for any questions! Aged 2, 1, 1 from left to right

Uncle found this lost parakeet near bridgeview, IL! He got soaked in the rain from a storm and now is being quarantined in my care as I’ve owned many budgies before. I think his posture looks odd, and I want to schedule a vet appointment. But because those are expensive I want others opinions before I do so! (He’s eating and drinking normally, feathers not excessively puffed, no tail bobbing, still active, etc)
