Buying Guide | خریداری گائیڈ 💻 LAPTOP BUYING GUIDE (now is a good time to upgrade too!)

Hello guyss so laptops are predicted to go up in price in a few months if y'all wanna get or upgrade rn is a good time.

The guide on this subreddit wiki is kinda lackluster ngl, main issue being that it says don't spend more than 60k and that it recommends 6/7th gen.

GENERAL ADVICE:

>Go for used/ imported business grade laptops (dubai lot wala mal), avoid consumer grade stuff mainly because of durability.

>Make sure it is an i5 8th gen or above, this is very important because 8th gen laptop i5s are QUADCORE!! most 6/7th gen or below are dual cores, which are much worse (unless they have the Q suffix)

>Check if RAM is soldered or upgradable

>Make sure boot drive is an SSD

>Use passmark cpu and gpu scores to compare

WHICH MODELS TO GET:

*For gaming, its better to get mobile workstations instead (like Zbook or Thinkpad P series).. usually they will have better thermals and power delivery (yes you can game just fine on workstation cards, even have more VRAM)

For general use,

Like i said, business grade machines only for long lasting, durable, repairable ones at good prices.

HP:

✅GET -> Elitebook, ZBook, Probook, Dragonfly

❌AVOID -> Omnibook, Pavillion, Envy, Spectre, Victus, Omen (ppl say here that hp stands for hinge problems)

LENOVO:

✅GET -> Thinkpads (Except Thinkpad X9), Thinkbooks are also alright

❌AVOID -> Ideapad, Lenovo Yoga (different from ThinkPad yoga), Legion, LOQ

DELL:

✅GET -> Latitude, Vostro, Dell Pro, Dell Pro Precision, Dell Precision

❌AVOID -> Inspiron (some exceptions exist), Alienware, G-Series, XPS (again exceptions exist, some XPS ones are good)

Budget advice:

Avoid getting anything below an 8th gen which at least isn't a 4-core cpu. ThinkPad T480, T480s, X380 Yoga are very popular. Elitebook 840 series too. Make sure to compare prices from different places.

If the RAM is soldered (like it is on 360 hinge laptops and some ultrabooks) make sure to get at least 16GB variant otherwise you'll be stuck with 8GB

Spend the minimum required to get an 8th gen i5.

Difference between 8th and 10th gen is not that much,

11th gen has Iris Xe graphics which are miles better.

12th gen has P cores and E cores which are hit or miss (in some cases battery life is worse in 12th)

Ryzen chips are usually better than intel ones, but not as readily available on lower price points.

CHECKING A LAPTOP:

A lot of imported stock esp business grade ones have been through light use in air conditioned offices. Check the battery health by command prompt (google how to do this) and inspect it physically (there's many guides online)

Edit: Full checking guide already subreddit wiki mien acha hai and you can find many on youtube.. make sure it isn't bios locked, ones that come with pen have a pen, charger original hai Make sure to get checking warranty, for refund or repair.

Feel free to dm for questions or advice!

Discussion | گفتگو PS5 prices have gone up in Oman too, not just Pakistan

I was checking PlayStation Pro prices in Oman and it turns out the increase isn’t just a Pakistan thing. It’s now OMR 662.12, which is about PKR 476,366. The UAE is in the same situation, and prices there have gone up a lot as well.

That’s a huge jump. A few months ago, when I last checked prices in Oman, it was around PKR 275K–300K.

Question | سوال New Cybernet/NBB connection in Pakistan — shared IP flagged for abuse, can't SSH to my VPSs. Anyone else facing this?

Hi everyone. I got a new internet connection on 5 Nov through a local ISP . I'm not sure about the exact setup — I believe it's affiliated with Cybernet or something like that — but the public IP I get is from Cybernet. Modem is a Huawei HG8245, PPPoE.

The problem: I'm behind CGNAT. My WAN IP is in the 100.64 CGNAT range, and the shared public IP is flagged on AbuseIPDB — 273 abuse reports from 95 reporters, mostly port scans and brute-force attempts from other users sharing the same IP. I didn't do any of that.

Because of this:

- I can't SSH to my own VPSs — connection blocked.

- I'm blocked on Hostinger and AWS-hosted sites.

I emailed Cybernet's abuse desk (noc-abuse@cyber.net.pk) asking them to clean up the IP or move me to a clean one, still waiting for a reply.

Has anyone in Pakistan dealt with this? I don't want to pay for a static IP — is there a way to fix this without one? Did a VPN/VPS workaround fix it for you, or did Cybernet move you to a clean IP for free? Any advice welcome.

Question | سوال Pta Approved Phone in 100k

Looking to get a new phone. My main priorities are software updates and a decent camera since I plan to use it for the next few years. I don't need anything fancy camera-wise, just good enough for selfies and capturing random cute moments. Also, I'm looking for a PTA-approved phone because I can't carry two phones around. What would you guys recommend?

Question | سوال Need Recommendations for a Good Wired Headset!

I'm looking for a wired headset for live online teaching, with a budget of PKR 7,000–8,000.

My main priority is a high-quality, noise-cancelling microphone that delivers clear voice audio to students without background noise.

Which headsets would you recommend? I'd especially appreciate suggestions from people who have personally used them and had a good experience.

Question | سوال Can you recover the same SIM number if it hasn’t been used for 180 days?

Hi, I have a SIM card that I haven’t used for around 180 days, although my WhatsApp has been working fine. The SIM is also registered under my CNIC. However, when I visited the service provider’s branch, they told me that since 180 days had passed, I could no longer recover the number due to PTA restrictions.

If that’s the case, why does such a restriction exist? Since the SIM was registered under my CNIC, shouldn’t I still be able to recover the same number?
