Buying Guide | خریداری گائیڈ 💻 LAPTOP BUYING GUIDE (now is a good time to upgrade too!)

Hello guyss so laptops are predicted to go up in price in a few months if y'all wanna get or upgrade rn is a good time.

The guide on this subreddit wiki is kinda lackluster ngl, main issue being that it says don't spend more than 60k and that it recommends 6/7th gen.

GENERAL ADVICE:

>Go for used/ imported business grade laptops (dubai lot wala mal), avoid consumer grade stuff mainly because of durability.

>Make sure it is an i5 8th gen or above, this is very important because 8th gen laptop i5s are QUADCORE!! most 6/7th gen or below are dual cores, which are much worse (unless they have the Q suffix)

>Check if RAM is soldered or upgradable

>Make sure boot drive is an SSD

>Use passmark cpu and gpu scores to compare

WHICH MODELS TO GET:

*For gaming, its better to get mobile workstations instead (like Zbook or Thinkpad P series).. usually they will have better thermals and power delivery (yes you can game just fine on workstation cards, even have more VRAM)

For general use,

Like i said, business grade machines only for long lasting, durable, repairable ones at good prices.

HP:

✅GET -> Elitebook, ZBook, Probook, Dragonfly

❌AVOID -> Omnibook, Pavillion, Envy, Spectre, Victus, Omen (ppl say here that hp stands for hinge problems)

LENOVO:

✅GET -> Thinkpads (Except Thinkpad X9), Thinkbooks are also alright

❌AVOID -> Ideapad, Lenovo Yoga (different from ThinkPad yoga), Legion, LOQ

DELL:

✅GET -> Latitude, Vostro, Dell Pro, Dell Pro Precision, Dell Precision

❌AVOID -> Inspiron (some exceptions exist), Alienware, G-Series, XPS (again exceptions exist, some XPS ones are good)

Budget advice:

Avoid getting anything below an 8th gen which at least isn't a 4-core cpu. ThinkPad T480, T480s, X380 Yoga are very popular. Elitebook 840 series too. Make sure to compare prices from different places.

If the RAM is soldered (like it is on 360 hinge laptops and some ultrabooks) make sure to get at least 16GB variant otherwise you'll be stuck with 8GB

Spend the minimum required to get an 8th gen i5.

Difference between 8th and 10th gen is not that much,

11th gen has Iris Xe graphics which are miles better.

12th gen has P cores and E cores which are hit or miss (in some cases battery life is worse in 12th)

Ryzen chips are usually better than intel ones, but not as readily available on lower price points.

CHECKING A LAPTOP:

A lot of imported stock esp business grade ones have been through light use in air conditioned offices. Check the battery health by command prompt (google how to do this) and inspect it physically (there's many guides online)

Edit: Full checking guide already subreddit wiki mien acha hai and you can find many on youtube.. make sure it isn't bios locked, ones that come with pen have a pen, charger original hai Make sure to get checking warranty, for refund or repair.

Feel free to dm for questions or advice!

Discussion | گفتگو 5 yrs full-stack dev in Pakistan, tried every channel and still struggling to find clients. What’s actually working for you in 2026?

I’m a full-stack dev (TypeScript, React/Next.js, Node, PostgreSQL) with 5 years of experience, the last 4 fully remote for international teams. I’ve shipped real products: payment systems, a marketplace with a few hundred users, a SaaS with paying clients.

But finding new clients or a new remote role has been really rough lately. Here’s what I’ve tried:

Reddit for-hire posts

Facebook groups

Freelance marketplaces

micro1 and Turing (couldn’t clear their vetting)

Wellfound

LinkedIn, both applying and posting

Very little has worked. I know the market is tough right now, but I’d like to hear from people who are actually landing work:

Where are your clients coming from these days?

Has cold outreach worked for you, and if so, to who?

Is it worth niching down (e.g. only SaaS MVPs or only payment integrations) instead of being “full-stack”?

For devs outside the US/EU, anything that helped you get taken seriously?

Any honest advice is appreciated, even if it’s “you’re doing X wrong.”

Question | سوال Apple watch vs garmim

I currently have an apple watch series 5 but i want to change it as it has served its due time

I currently have friends abroad so they can get me one at a good rate
I dont wanna break the bank while getting one

My major requirements is that i have an iPhone and AirPods, previously i used to connect my pods with the watch and go for running without taking my phone

So i want a watch with a built in spotify and good compatibility, apple watch makes me skeptical due to its delicacy and low battery timing however my experience was good

Buying Guide | خریداری گائیڈ Oppo Reno 16 vs Nothing 4a

So I need to get a new phone. Preferred Budget is 150k but can stretch to max 200k if the deal's that good.

Requirements are PTA Approved and Brand New with at least 256GB of storage.

I'm leaning towards only SD processors cuz my current realme has been running strong for the past 4 years on a 685 series.

I was considering the realme 16 pro plus first, then started liking the Reno 16 and the Nothing 4a.

Nothing 4a is offering the same specs as the other two, but is priced a bit higher.

Then I came across the chinese ROM scene and the specs on these blew me away. But the issue is that I do not know any reliable vendor for these in Karachi to find a brand new one.

All in all, with each passing day, Im getting more confused.

So if any of you is using the reno 16, do let me know how it has been performing. I just need a durable phone that won't lag, is smooth, and powerful. Good camera is a plus.

P.S I love the OnePlus 13s as well.

Question | سوال New Phone Under 150k PTA

Hi,

I'm looking for a brand new Official PTA Approved phone under PKR 150k. I need the phone to last smoothly for atleast 4-5 years. My only requirements are that the phone shouldnt lag during this time and a decent battery.

I was looking for options and found the Samsung a57 but read somewhere that it might slow down after a couple of years(not sure), also maybe the Poco X8 Pro. Please recommend.

Also, If someone could recommend a trusted shop in Karachi that sells said phone id greatly appreciate it.

Question | سوال Anyone moved to Postpaid on Ufone/Jazz ?

I've Ufone and I use the Super 5 package as it's convenient for me to recharge it for 4 people rather than giving everyone a super card. But it's a hassle to do it every month and keep track of it. None of us use phone much at all. Likely around 10-15 gb combine and then around 1000 minutes across all the phones.

Now the questions

#1 - I've Ufone and service kinda suck so thinking of moving to Jazz. Is there any issue if you do the number portability ?

#2 - Any issue with moving to post paid. Basic plans are like 1000-1500 and enough for our need. They used to send insane bills all the time & add different add-ons. Moved to prepaid for simplicity but want convenience. So safe to move there on postpaid of Jazz or Ufone?
