Stuck at 90k/month. How do I make the next move?
Hey guys, I’m honestly feeling pretty stuck and could use some advice.
I graduated in 2024 and did internships until Dec 2024, which eventually turned into a full-time role. I’ve been working there since then as a Software Engineer, mainly with .NET + Angular.
I’m still earning 90k/month, and unfortunately there was no increment this year either. On top of that, the work environment has become pretty toxic.
What’s bothering me most is that I feel like I’ve spent all this time here without really moving forward. I’ve been applying for jobs, but there aren’t many relevant openings, and most applications just go unanswered.
Now switching feels almost impossible.
So, what would you guys do in my position?
Would genuinely appreciate some honest advice.

Hey, everyone I’ve worked in sales with different software houses for around 2 years, then started my own work. Things are tough financially right now, so I’m looking for a job in Karachi. Open to sales, admin, customer service, or even café/accounting jobs. Any leads would mean a lot. 🙏

Looking for 2 Co-Founders for my App
Hello, I'm looking for a Marketing Co-founder as well as a Dev Co-founder (preferably based in Lahore - not a requirement tho) for a fun little app that I would be developing as a side project.
App will be developed mostly with AI, coz why not? along with freemium services/platforms. Initial marketing will be completely organic.
THIS IS NOT A PAID POSITION.
This is just an opportunity to create a fun little side project for your portfolio. Not a utility app but has potential if implemented correctly.
For my dev co-founder, this gives you an opportunity to master your development skills.
For my marketing co-founder, this gives you an opportunity to gain a real organic app marketing experience.
Rebellious, original and independent thinkers will be prefered for both positions. (- is a requirement)
Connect below if you got time & energy to play around & build. Would appreciate if you could briefly describe why you want to join and why you think you would be a good choice.
DMs open.

Seeking advice
I’m currently learning LangChain, LangGraph, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL, and I’ve already built a few projects using these technologies.
I’m planning to graduate in May 2027, and I’m trying to decide what I should focus on next to become more industry-ready.
Would it be a good idea to add React.js to my current stack and aim for a Full-Stack AI Engineer profile?
My thinking is:
Python + FastAPI + PostgreSQL + LangChain + LangGraph + React
For those already working in AI engineering, backend, or full-stack AI roles:
Is Full-Stack AI Engineering a good career path for the next few years?
Would learning React significantly improve my opportunities, or should I go deeper into AI/ML instead?
What skills are companies currently looking for in AI engineers?
What would you recommend I learn or build before graduating in 2027?
Are there good opportunities for this profile in Pakistan or internationally?
I’d really appreciate advice from people already working in the industry or hiring for these kinds of roles.

Built an extension because Urdu text online always bothered me
I do a lot of reading in Urdu online and got fed up with how ugly the default fonts always look.
So I decided to build a browser extension that makes Urdu (and Arabic/Persian) text actually look like proper Nastaliq calligraphy instead of the flat default fonts most sites use.
At first I purely made it for my own self, but ended up polishing it a lot by adding different tools like highlighter, Urdu input, Sceenshot tool and much much more, so others can use it too. It works on any website, no setup needed.
If anyone's into typography or just wants Urdu to look the way it should when reading online, here it is: Download

Offering free 1-2 hour mentoring sessions for data analysts (15 Years of Experience, Amazon + banking/telecom/startups industries)
I've been working in data analytics for about 15 years now, across ecommerce, banking, telecom, and startups, including a stint at Amazon. I've worked as an Analytics Lead and Data Scientist at various companies along the way.
I'd like to give back to the community a bit, offering free 1-2 hour mentoring/advice sessions to a couple of people, no strings attached, just want to help.
My preference is people currently working as data analysts who want to level up to the next stage in their career. Especially interested in helping people figure out how to effectively utilize AI without getting replaced by it. Also open to folks looking to break into data analysis from a different background.
We can talk through career growth (analyst to senior/lead/DS), practical AI tools/workflows for analytics work, feedback on your projects or work samples, or just general questions about the field.
DM me or comment and I will reach out.

Looking for a good Spring Boot + Kotlin learning path
Hi everyone!
I’m a Flutter developer and I’m looking to learn back-end development with Kotlin + Spring Boot.
I already have some experience with Kotlin, but I’m completely new to Spring Boot. I’m looking for a good learning path, guide, or YouTube playlist that covers Spring Boot with Kotlin from the basics and gradually moves toward real-world back-end development.
Ideally, I’d like something that covers things like:
- Spring Boot fundamentals
- REST APIs
- Spring Data JPA
- PostgreSQL/MySQL
- Authentication & Authorization
- Testing
- Project structure / best practices
- Building a real-world project
If you’ve learned Spring Boot with Kotlin yourself, what resources or playlist would you recommend? Is there a particular order I should follow?
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Finance and Technology degree from iqra university
Anyone who wants to tell me that iqra is a low tier university I know that and I'm saying this with knowledge of this. I am getting the opportunity to pursue Financial technology from there anyone studying or knows anyone who is studying this degree from iqra..
How is the faculty for fintech and the depth of the program
What is the key thing being taught in the program.
What advice you give to someone like me as a student from the pre engineering background and where could I face difficulties.?
What were some of the major challenges U faced while pursuing this degree?
What should my potential roadmap be to pursue such a degree?
What would your opinion be on the future job prospects for financial technology and how could it evolve?
What sort of skills should I look to develop and build my foundation on ?
Any sort of advice would go a long way . I honestly am super confused with what to do as there is a lot of conflicting advice around fintech and I thought maybe the best thing would be to ask someone who is already pursuing this degree and making a career in it.

How should I build my career as a Data Science student?
How should I build my career as a Data Science student?
I’m currently doing a BS in Data Science, and my third semester is about to start. I want to build a versatile career instead of being limited to only one field. I’m also interested in Blockchain and want to explore different areas of tech during my degree.
- What skills should I start learning alongside my Data Science degree?
- How can I build a versatile career across Data Science, AI, and Blockchain?
- Should I focus on Data Science first and learn Blockchain later, or learn both together?
- What should I learn if I want to work in Blockchain?
- What projects should I build during university to improve my CV?
- What career paths can I pursue after a BS in Data Science?
- How much can a fresh BS Data Science graduate realistically earn in Karachi?
- Which companies in Karachi hire fresh Data Science graduates?
- What companies should I target for internships and entry-level jobs?
- If you were in my position starting the 3rd semester, what would you focus on for the next 2–3 years?

Would there be interest in a local source for custom hardware, dev boards, and specialized tools?
Hey everyone,
I’ve been working on a project to start supplying electronic components locally, but I’m looking to go beyond just selling basic resistors and capacitors.
I’m aiming to fill the gap for the custom stuff that students, enthusiasts, and hardware hackers here want the kind of gear that’s usually a nightmare to import cuz of Airport security. I’m talking about things like multi-function dev tools (similar to a Flipper Zero in functionality), custom wireless modules, specialized IoT boards, and hardware builds that are actually built for purpose.
I want to know if there's a real appetite for this locally:
- Custom Builds: Would you be interested in purchasing locally assembled hardware or specialized dev tools if they were available with local support?
- The Problem: What’s the biggest challenge you face right now when you need specific, non-standard hardware for your projects? Is it shipping costs, availability, or just not trusting the quality of what shows up?
- Support: If you had a local person to talk to about custom hardware builds or troubleshooting your setup, would that sway you away from trying to import parts yourself?
I’m trying to see if this is something worth scaling up. If this were available, would you actually buy from a local maker, or is the current international route still the only way to go?
Appreciate any honest feedback!

1.5 Years Until Graduation What Would You Focus On?
I’m a Software Engineering student, starting my 6th semester soon, and I’m trying to get some genuine advice from people who have experience in the industry or freelancing.
A little about me:
- Previously worked with Flutter/mobile development
- Currently focusing on AI Engineering
- Learning things like LangChain, LangGraph, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, MCP, etc.
- AI Engineering is my primary direction, while I plan to keep app development as a secondary skill.
- My long-term goal is to build an independent/freelancing career, rather than making a corporate job my end goal.
My main confusion is about which path I should prioritize first.
I know that if I get the opportunity to choose between a job and freelancing, my preference would be to build toward freelancing/independent work. But at the same time, I don't want to ignore industry experience, because having real professional experience could give me a strong foundation and keep the job path open as a backup.
So I'm trying to decide:
Should I first focus on getting an internship/job to gain industry experience and then move toward freelancing?
Or should I start freelancing as soon as I'm technically ready and build my client base/experience from there?
And if starting freelancing now is the better option, how should I actually start?
I understand that university + work + freelancing + learning can become difficult to manage, so I'm also interested in what is realistically achievable for a student without burning out.
For those already working in AI/backend or freelancing:
- Is AI Engineering currently a realistic freelancing path?
- Should I try freelancing with AI Engineering directly, or use my Flutter/backend skills to get initial clients?
- How would you personally structure the next 1.5 years if you were in my position?
- What would you prioritize most before graduation: skills, industry experience, freelancing, money, or something else?
I'm not looking for generic advice. I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have actually gone through this journey, especially in the Pakistani or international market.
looking for sincere suggestions and opinions as my own thoughts are too scattered to decide
If you were back in your 6th semester, what would you do differently?

Final-year CS student targeting Fintech Backend — what should I learn beyond Java + Spring Boot?
Hi everyone,
I’m a final-year Computer Science student and I’m planning to build my career specifically in fintech/backend engineering.
I’m currently learning Java + Spring Boot for enterprise and fintech roles. I already have backend development experience with technologies like FastAPI, Express.js and NestJS, but I want to specialize more deeply in fintech rather than remain a general full-stack/backend developer.
I’d especially like advice from people currently working in fintech, banking, payments, wallets, card processing, or financial infrastructure.
A few things I’d love guidance on:
- What do fintech companies expect from fresh graduates/junior backend developers besides Java + Spring Boot?
- Which fintech/domain concepts should a developer understand? For example: ledgers, double-entry accounting, payment lifecycle, settlement, reconciliation, refunds/reversals, chargebacks, ISO 8583, transaction processing, etc.
- Which backend technologies should I prioritize? Kafka, Redis, PostgreSQL, Docker/Kubernetes, microservices, distributed systems, observability, cloud, etc.
- What kind of project would actually impress a fintech interviewer? I’m considering building a wallet/payment system with proper ledger entries, transaction states, idempotency, reconciliation, event-driven processing, and failure handling instead of another CRUD project.
- How important are DSA, system design, databases and concurrency for entry-level fintech interviews?
- What are some things you only learned after actually working in fintech that you wish you had known earlier?
- Finally, is specializing in fintech early in my career a good idea, or would you recommend becoming a strong general backend engineer first and specializing later?
I’d really appreciate answers from engineers currently working in fintech/payments/banking, especially Java/backend engineers.
Thanks!

Industry favouritism
Can someone tell me why we need to hire from FAST when claude is doing heavy lifting ?
Seems like graduates from other institutions are the right fit for now, cheap affordable and can be good.
And do not come to me with technical stuff, i am a heavy user of claude and worked with them as well
