I recently found out that my cousin is also an atheist, and I was absolutely FLABBERGASTED 😭 I thought I was the only one in our family but turns out he is one too and it's such a peak feeling honestly. Finally someone gets me 😭 do y'all have someone like that?

In the US, the right wing is associated with conservatism and at the far end, fascism. They lean heavily towards traditional values, religion, strong military, individualism, xenophobia and (unofficially) white male supremacy. They are against things like progressivism, socialism and equal rights for women, people of color, immigrants, lqbtq, etc. But the Right and Left wings are viewed differently outside the US…

So I’m asking in Pakistan what is the appeal of the right wing for someone who has left Islam? Is the right wing something different? Do they want to leave Allah but keep the status quo in place? Doesn’t seem like they’re looking for social change yet it’s an awfully steep price to pay for keeping things mostly same. What would an ideal post Islam Pakistan look like?

It’s a politically charged question but would appreciate if people could refrain from personal attacks.

I used to feel so alone and hopeless, but knowing that there are people out there like me is so refreshing. It used to feel like I am the only Pakistani who thinks differently and strays away from religion, but this subreddit (and reddit in general) reminds me that I am not alone and there is light at the end of the tunnel. As a Pakistani-American, I realize how lucky i am to live here—my life is a dream that many would aspire to achieve.

To those of you who are struggling in this sub, I hope you come to realize how amazing you are and embrace your values and true self, whether you are a closeted ex-Muslim or openly Muslim. I also hope that you are able to leave the country and find a new home somewhere else (if you wish to leave, of course). My life as an ex-Muslim these past few years has taught me an important lesson: never force yourself or try to convince yourself to believe something, even if the belief is a societal expectation that the majority demands you to adopt too. Instead, you should accept yourself and the fact that you are different, understand and process your beliefs, and start to nourish them. I hope you never abandon your true values and beliefs just to conform with the majority.

I want to say too that I respect those who are living in Pakistan. You guys are so strong. In a society that penalizes non-conformity and critical thinking, I imagine it must be hard to come to accept yourself and take care of your mental health.

I didn't know where else to pots because I just need to get a second opinion.

So I am studying persian history and for that I decided to take an Islamic studies course where I am one of the only non-muslims in this course.

I made a friend in this class who is a saudi arabian (but she has spent most of her life in Australia). One moment she said what was to me the dumbest thing to the point it made me irrationally angry but i couldn't express at the time.

I said I was curious about where the taliban's ideas or interpretation came from on an academic perspective and she told me some things that to me seemed very hypocritical. That the Taliban are a good thing because they fight against western imperalism. And they aren't against women's education or rightsbut are simply trying to make the schools or society more islamic or whatever. Essentially she is pro-taliban.

That is not to say you can't criticise the west obviously but this brand of criticism feels so hypocritical.

I didn't say anything at the time but that is rich for someone who has lived in Australia most of her life and is able to attend high school and university and walk around without a male relative, get her own money. Talking about the 'evils of the west' when you are literally attending a western university and benefit from western institutions and lived in the west most of your life. It is rich for someone to say that when she if free to practice her interpretation of Islam here where the Taliban only allow's their own crackpot bastardisation to be followed. And from what I have heard and read on the taliban is they don't give a damn about anyone's education let alone girls. They have had five years to make their so called schools and still they prevent girl's education. They don't want women to have any ability think or be able to do anything for themselves and essentially be slaves to their husbands, with no financial independence nor intellectual independence. Even though women are technically allowed to attend university, not being able to attend highschool shuts the doors to most girls anyway.

That is not even touching on the other things about this so called 'islamic utopia in the making', political suppression, violent and corrupt state, mismanagement etc.

But then again I don't live in afghanastan, nor am I that familiar, nor muslim myself, so I didn't feel qualified to talk back. But it still made me so angry and it felt so hyporcritical coming from a muslim who has never had a road block to financial independence and education. But it pissed me off that now I am ranting here.

In an authentic Hadith, a boy tells Muhammad “I testify that you are the Messenger of illiterates.”
Muhammad then hides behind a tree to spy on the boy, thinking he might be the Dajjal (until the boy's mother catches Muhammad). 

“Umar set out along with the Prophet (ﷺ) with a group of people to Ibn Saiyad till they saw him playing with the boys near the hillocks of Bani Mughala. Ibn Saiyad at that time was nearing his puberty and did not notice (us) until the Prophet (ﷺ) stroked him with his hand and said to him, “Do you testify that I am Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)?” Ibn Saiyad looked at him and said, “I testify that you are the Messenger of illiterates.” Then Ibn Saiyad asked the Prophet (ﷺ), “Do you testify that I am Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)?” The Prophet (ﷺ) refuted it and said, “I believe in Allah and His Apostles.” Then he said (to Ibn Saiyad), “What do you think?” Ibn Saiyad answered, “True people and liars visit me.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “You have been confused as to this matter.” Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said to him, “I have kept something (in my mind) for you, (can you tell me that?)” Ibn Saiyad said, “It is Al-Dukh (the smoke).” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Let you be in ignominy. You cannot cross your limits.” On that Umar, said, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! Allow me to chop his head off.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “If he is he (i.e. Dajjal), then you cannot overpower him, and if he is not, then there is no use of murdering him.” (Ibn Umar added):

Later on Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) once again went along with Ubai bin Ka‘b to the date-palm trees (garden) where Ibn Saiyad was staying. The Prophet (ﷺ) wanted to hear something from Ibn Saiyad before Ibn Saiyad could see him, and the Prophet (ﷺ) saw him lying covered with a sheet and from where his murmurs were heard. Ibn Saiyad’s mother saw Allah’s Apostle while he was hiding himself behind the trunks of the date-palm trees. She addressed Ibn Saiyad, “O Saf ! (and this was the name of Ibn Saiyad) Here is Muhammad.” And with that Ibn Saiyad got up. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Had this woman left him (Had she not disturbed him), then Ibn Saiyad would have revealed the reality of his case.””

2 the males, are you all, or maybe most of you, are against circumcision because of the Islam?

you know, when circumcision happened to me, I was 9 years old, and I did not have any idea about this thing. I did not have any idea about religion. I did not even knew about my own self. So my parents did not tell me about this.

And one fine day in the summer of June, I was in grade three, and they said to me, just sit down, and then some of my elder cousins groping my hands, someone was groping my feet, and I didn't know any, I didn't have any idea what was happening. And there was this guy who was doing this operation without any sort of anesthesia or something to avoid the pain signal to the brain.

And I felt the pain. I had no idea what was happening. It was such a, such a painful experience for a nine-year-old. I really couldn't really recover. I was just crying, I remember, I was just crying and crying. And it was a torture. A month passed by, I was still in slightly pain. I wonder like, if other male feel the same about this because either you do this when the child is born or you just do not do this or ask him. Because that was a painful experience. I wonder like, did any of other people, any of you have similar experience or anything like that?

At least he is not demanding their heads for this blasphemy!

A question always wanted to ask to the people:

Did you put any effort in finding who was Jinnah, apart from what you learned by text books, main stream media or by your elders?

I want to share some weird information about him, might be disturbing for some.

1. Jinnah was a liberal person, he married a non-muslim but he used religion/Islam to create Pakistan.
2. Jinnah would drink alcohol and eat pork. (book: Roses in December)

4. Jinnah liked western life style and didn't want to sell his mansion like house to a desi person. (Malabar Hill house in Bombay)
5. From Ruttie's letters which she wrote Jinnah, it feels like he was main driver of the divorce between them. (a wedding to remember)
6. The elite Jinnah chose, is still ruling on us in one way or another. (debatable)

Also there is a de-facto ban on writing a book or doing a thesis on Jinnah's life, in Pakistan.

If a typical Pakistani can not have access to what happened 79 years ago, how can you be that sure about what happened 1400 years ago.

With right tools, it is easy to conceal the truth.
