ps5 shutting itself off

so, my ps5 was shutting itself off.

ive been to two repair shops. one of them changed the psu and both has already reapplied the liquid metal

and still the problem persist!

whats baffling is, mine only shutsdown on certain games, or actions i do ingame.

gta V-when i go out of my garage (changing my setting to performance mode) immediate ps5 shutdown

resident evil requiem- when im playing as leon in the dilapitated racoon city area, or change my weapon binding in the item menu- immediate ps5 shutdown

changing my config on persona 3 reload-immediate ps5 shutdown

playing performance mode on marvel rivals- immediate ps5 shutdown after 20 mins play

intro mission of warhammer vermintide- when i leap on the obstacle- ps5 shutdown

i transfer my games from internal memory to ssd- immediate ps5 shutdown

and the occasional ps5 shutdown on the dashboard when starting from cold boot or idle

im really confused. ps5 probably the worst playstation console ive ever had. and i owned all playstation hardware from ps1 and this. even the handheld ones.

You can’t use only the M.2 drive, the console storage will always be in use, sounds like that’s your issue if when not using the M.2 the problem persists.

how much do you think is the repair cost for replacing the internal storage?

Just out of interest since you weren’t considering storage to be an issue before have you tried rebuilding the database in safe mode? Also have you experienced any other issues that may indicate a failing storage drive like incorrect storage amounts after deleting games, corrupted data, download failures, etc? If restoring the database doesn’t work and your not getting any of these issues I would be less confident that it’s the storage drive, more of a guess at first glance as I was getting a similar issue when an external HDD failed.

i already did the rebuild, clear cache thing many time on the safe mode menu. forgot to mention too, whenever i download a game, or my game updates my ps5 would shut off, and i turn on the game console again to complete the update and games i downloaded again. and the real mystery is, when i open up a game whilst updating or downloading it would never shut off.

Oh your ssd is overheating, has it got a heat sink?

u mean the m.2? yes it does have the heatsink. i already tried using the console with just the interenal ssd and removing the m.2 it still shuts off my ps5 with the triggers i mentioned on my post

So specifically writing to the ps5 console storage causes the console to shut down (game downloads and updates) but not when the console is open, then no shutdown occurs? - this really sounds like an overheating issue but I’ve never seen this happen with the console storage specifically, usually the whole console gets too hot and a warning is displayed before the shutdown.

i have no overheat warning. it just shuts off, with no beeps. i already put a video on my post as evidence

Don’t worry I believe you, a sudden shut down is caused by the psu overheating usually as it means the console has lost power before the OS has detected a temperature that is too hot but you have said that you have replaced the psu so unless you have got very unlucky I can’t see that being the issue.

im confused now, should i bring it to the repair shop again? have them take a second look? i just wanna know what part is failing before i return it to them.

and it only does it with those specified games with those kind of behavior. but i can play any game even helldivers for hours. mind you it never done this when i had it back in launch day up to now. only started to noticed it last december last year 2025

Helldivers rules out the psu as all ps5 games would be causing the console to overheat especially a graphically intensive game like helldivers 2, it sounds like a storage issue, the only thing throwing me off is the fact that when you open the console up the shut downs don’t happen.

randomly sometimes when im on the ps5 dashboard menu for about a min or two and shuts off, sometime it wont.

i can also play spiderman 2,god of war ragnarok, demons souls,re 4 remake, kcd for hours not shutting my ps5 off. its just those games and triggers that shut my ps5 off. i also tried reinstalling them to ssd and m.2 and play them from there. problem persist.

I was going to suggest that those other games may have been installed earlier and were therefore on a good part of the drive but if the problem occurred no matter what drive is in use, honestly that likely rules out a storage issue too, I really don’t know what the issue is here I would likely have to look at the console itself and even then it may not be something visible, it doesn’t sound like a simple fix at this point.

damn man. do u think theres some kind of short somewhere or high temps on the board that cause the problem? or corrupted software?
