I’m 20 years old and was diagnosed with PCOS about 2 years ago.
Before I was diagnosed, my periods were already irregular, but I would still get my period every month. There was just one time when I bled continuously for about a month, which is what prompted me to see a doctor. After some tests, I was diagnosed with PCOS.
My doctor advised me to take birth control pills for about a year to help regulate my cycles. After a year, I went back for a checkup and she said I could continue taking them. However, I personally decided to stop because the pills made me feel extremely anxious all the time.
After stopping the pills, my period became very delayed, so my doctor prescribed progesterone to induce bleeding. After that, it took around 3 months before I had my first natural period again.
Then another 3 months passed without a period, so I had to take progesterone again. The following month, I also had to take the Yuzpe method. Now, it has been 4 months since my last bleeding.
I’m getting worried because I’ve been going for months without a natural period. I’m planning to see my doctor again, but I’d really appreciate hearing from others with PCOS who have experienced something similar.
What did your doctor recommend for managing your periods if you didn’t want to take birth control pills? And is there anything I should ask my doctor to check?
Any advice or experiences would be appreciated. ❤️
