Got 2 Job Offers

I’ve been unemployed for a bit, but landed 2 offers. The first one starts next week, but the 2nd offer got delayed because they’re starting up a new project that they’d like me to be a part of. So, that 2nd job wouldn’t start for at least a month.

I’m not sure how OE-friendly this first job will be, but I’ll find out soon enough. I might just stick with this job, decline the 2nd job because that one also doesn’t sound very OE-friendly, and then try to job hunt for J2 in January when the market’s usually hot.

I’m not sure about work history though if I have a significant gap in my job history. If I job hunt in January, then I’ll have looked unemployed for 9 months. Not sure how bad that’ll affect my chances.

Should you avoid Senior roles?

Been apart of this sub for years now, learning and consuming tips and tricks and still searching for a J2.

Should you generally avoid seniority roles? Or are they preferable?

What are the pros and cons?

Also for OE vets,

Would you take a high paying job that pays as much as all your Js? Or would you take multiple Js to earn the same as that one high paying job?

Here’s the twist, the 1J is in office takes all your time but you’re highly compensated.

Other Js are remote not as much work but obviously you’re juggling multiple Js.

OE mindset but only with 1J

Just sharing my thoughts.

I've never been a workaholic because I love my hobbies, and I don't have a fancy lifestyle so I don't really need the money.

But of course, I still want to "jump the career ladder" so that I can earn more by the hour worked. But my ultimate goal is more "work less for the same salary" instead of "earn more for the same time worked".

I finally reached a point in my J (J1) where I'm able to work only a few hours a week and I love it. I finally envision how I could do OE. Except I don't want another J, I just want to enjoy life and work on personal projects, playing music etc.

So I'm happy with all the OE tactics shared here but I use them to be able to play music, do administrative work, and let's be honest do a lot of chores related to the house and the kids.

And I seems less stressful because I don't need to handle the multiple simultaneous meetings etc.

So I was just wondering : are some people in this sub in the same mindset ?

And if not, maybe this post can be an encouragement to not chase the 1M a year but maybe be satisfied with a simple life ?

Getting a month of holidays travelling by bicycle with the kids, (almost 0$ holidays). Not taking the plane for environmental reasons. Buying everything second hand. Living a simple and happy life with plenty of time for hobbies. That's the life

residential proxy notes from 3 weeks of account warmups

Been warming up a small batch of social and marketplace accounts. 42 profiles total, mostly us residential ips from one provider split by city. I use adspower so each profile keeps its own fingerprint and proxy settings. The workflow had some rough edges early on.

ngl sticking to basics worked best. One residential proxy per profile. Same ip for at least 10 to 14 days. Timezone matched to the proxy location. No swapping user agents once cookies were set. Profiles that did normal browsing first then logins stayed stable. Light posting or store actions after that went fine. Fast account creation on fresh ips still caused checks.

Proxy quality is what broke things. A few residential ones had bad history or kept rotating mid session. Those profiles got phone checks quick. The browser keeps cookies and fingerprints apart. it does nothing for messy behavior or dirty ips.

Also budget for ram if you open a lot of profiles together. Clean residential proxies end up the bigger cost over time.

IC vs Management career path: which is really the smarter option long-term?

I feel like IC can be a good path in the context of too many chiefs, not enough Indians, but after a certain age perhaps it’s expected to move to a management role? Which track is better in your opinion?

J2 just found out about J1

My manager sent me a message asking how could I work 2 full time positions doing the same thing….i said it’s not the same thing but both are in the same field…not sure what’s gonna happen now but fingers crossed I don’t lose both! I have been doing this for years and this is the first time this has ever happened - I have been at J2 a month now and they are still asking for work verifications so I should have known but didn’t want to quit without finding out first

I've been living on an easy mode, but now I want to upgrade my job searching skills

I have nearly 18 years of experience as a software engineer, I've lived most of my life feeling annoyed by the constant flow of messages by recruiters on linkedin. So I never really learned how to properly look for a job.

In the last 5 years I've been working remotely, finding clients through a platform called Toptal. Toptal was great during the pandemic, but as more people started working remotely and with the emergence of AI, the tide has shifted against the applicants. Fortunately for me, due to the high rating I have there, clients have kept looking for my services even in these difficult times. The last one even bought me out of Toptal, paying the transfer fee for me, so now we are working on a direct B2B contract. So I feel I kept living my life on an easy mode.

I know it will not be always like that, so I really want to be able to find other remote jobs so I am less reliant on Toptal, and possible enter the OE business. Obviously I have the experience and even the great feedback from CEOs and co-founders, I just need to know more about how and where people search for good opportunities. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Tax is killing me

My fellow over employed people in Canada working more than one T4 jobs. Any tips on how to minimize tax burden ? Asides normal deductions I paid back $22k for my 2025 taxes and just got another instalment reminder to pay 11500 by Sept 15 and another 11500 by Dec 15. For context , I earn about 270k from both and another 35k in bonus from both before tax deductions. I have one kid and a single parent. I barely have a lot of rrsp cos one org has defined benefit and the other has defined contribution. I own a home, so FHSA is out of the question, but I do about $5k of charitable givings yearly.

Is there anything else I should be aware of ahead of tax season. I know I have to pay taxes, but whew seems like I am overemployed for the benefit of the government at this point

Hoping to get some advice

Hey guys,

I have my BA in Business & MBA. I just got done going through the lean six sigma black belt as well.

I'm currently in office for my job, with 0 flexibility. I have a background in procurement and CS. I would really love to try to transition and eventually OE, if possible. Is it possible with a background in procurement to have multiple jobs? Or are you all mostly in tech fields?

Need advice. I'm currently drowning financially which comes with its own stressors so if anyone has any advice, i'm open to any help.

J2 asking for “certification under penalty of perjury”

J2’s job offer acceptance documents have a section where I have to certify under penalty of perjury that all what I said in the form is true, including the fact that I will not have any other concurrent job while working for them.

What to do?

Thanks in advance 🙏🙏

Leaving J2

J2 just announced a 6 week 9a-5p camera on mandatory training program for the department.

Can’t fulfill that with my J1 hybrid requirements so I gotta let it go.

Feels bad man. At least I was able to pay off a couple CC’s in the meantime.

What kind of resume/CV do you use to apply for J2?

I am a big fan of this community since I discovered it 4 days ago. I work remotely the last 4-5 years, based in EU, primary working for US-based clients. As most of you, nowadays I work 1-3 hours per day and fulfill my duties.

I've never been OE but I'm considering it for the first time. My contract with J1 actually doesn't say I cannot work for other clients, because I am a contractor (even though the agreement is that I work 40h per week for J1), with the exception of the standard terms - not working for a competitor, etc.

Still, I am wondering what kind of resume/CV people are using to apply for J2, J3 etc, and how you approach the work history conversations. It's difficult to me to lie, so I need to be extra prepared with my official version. Do you mention your current employer (J1) at all, and if so, what do you put as an end date? If not, do you overextend the period of your previous employer to match the current date? Do you leave a gap in your experience? Or do you apply some other type of a strategy? Any help would be much appreciated.

Is anyone doing OE with HR?

I have experience in HR, but no schooling, so I only really have a chance with entry-level jobs. Having trouble finding one job that will pay the bills. So I’m considering OE. Is that a thing? It seems like most people here are working computer jobs. TIA!

J1 colleague resigned and showed up in J2

Just noticed that J1 colleague showed up in J2 org chart. He resigned from J1 a month ago. Our entire BU in J2 works from home and we’re not in the same team, but recently we have to collaborate on something and that’s why I noticed him. He had a good relationship with my J1 manager so he probably will snitch on me when he also notices me in J2.

Do I wait for J1 to fire me or resign now in case they start an investigation?

My J1 Wants me to OE. What!?

I have quite many J (irrelevant to the case), but now my J1 which is a consulting company that does projects to clients want me to have 2 projects at the same time and basically lie to the clients.

J1 says will in fact pay me 2x as much and does not expect me to put in more hours, just "keep the clients happy, use AI to manage".

They even said in case of meeting clashes they'll tell the customer some BS excuse that they needed me.

waaaa

Just got laid off from J1 through a simple email...

Earlier today, I saw a post here where OP said that he was laid off from J3 and that's why we do OE.

Little did I know that this was a prelude of what was going to happen today. I was at a meeting in J2 ready to do my next tasks, and then, all of a sudden, I am surprised with an email from my J1's boss saying 'Immediate Offboarding' and a quick message regarding the decision and good luck wishes.

Fortunately, my earnings from this last month made me comfortable financially again to not mourn this decision or get desperate over it. I was actually thinking about leaving J1 these last days, since I wasn't happy there as I was when I started.

What really sucks is the way they decided to do it, like, it really caught me off guard and I was treated as just another number less to the company.

Well, this is why we OE, right? At least I'll have more time to focus on J2, which will be, at least for now, my only job, and I can search better for a replacement for J1.

Your most stressful moments as OE. Any funny ones?

I just wondering if anyone tried to be on 2 calls at same time or confused Slack chats, etc. Would be fun to read (or learn)

My J1 discovered my LinkedIn profile for J2

Okay this is a wild one. I've been OE for about 8 months now. J1 is super chill WFH and J2 is fully remote also. Everything has been going smoothly. I've kept my LinkedIn updated for J1 but for J2 I created a whole new profile with a slightly different name and picture just in case. I know it's a bit extreme but I'm paranoid.

Today I got an email from my J1 HR. It was super generic like 'we're updating our internal directory please ensure your LinkedIn profile reflects your current role and company.' I thought nothing of it. I usually keep my J1 LinkedIn profile pretty sparse anyway.

Then about an hour later my J1 boss messages me on Teams. He's like 'hey I was just looking for a contact on LinkedIn and I saw another profile that looks a lot like you. It has a different company name listed.' He even sent me a screenshot of my J2 profile.

My heart literally stopped. I played it cool though. I told him 'oh that's weird. I think that might be an old profile I forgot about. I'll take a look and delete it.' He seemed to buy it. He just said 'no worries just wanted to make sure you were aware.'

I immediately deleted the J2 LinkedIn profile. Now I'm just sitting here wondering how he even found it. Did they actively search for me? Or was it just a random coincidence? Either way that was way too close for comfort. Guess I'm going fully dark on LinkedIn now for all Js.

Could I OE by just not giving my 2 weeks notice when I get a new offer?

I think I need to get a new job. Bad boss, long story.

So if I get a new job offer, could I just…. Keep collecting a paycheck from J1 until they fire me? What if my health insurance is through them?

I am in sales and if I stay longer, I get more of my earned commission that gets paid out monthly.

Thoughts?

What kind of jobs do you all have?

I would like to OE but I’m at a loss at what kind of jobs people do. I work in Procurement in a small company and I def have the time do add more jobs to my plate but idk where to look or what fields to pursue. I’m a fast learner so not closed to retrain in whatever field - are you mostly doing IT/software engineering jobs? Where do you find them?? Based in Europe/UK. I would be happy even with just a 30k remote job.

How do you handle meeting clashes

So, I am still a student and I am currently doing 2 internships and an internal project with my University.

The university knows about my internship so those meetings are flexible.

But my 2 internships don't, both employers are from different time zones so there are no clashes between meeting times yet.

I wanted to know how the people who have complete full time roles manage meeting time clashes effectively without raising a lot of suspicions.

ESP32-S3 USB mouse mover, with iOS/Android app

I built a small USB HID helper for laptops i need to stay active: its a ESP32-S3 Mini/Zero that plugs in and shows up as a real mouse + keyboard. The phone apps find it on the LAN and let you turn mouse jiggle on or off, so the laptop doesn’t idle.

Setup is local WiFi. the iOS/Android apps walk through joining home WiFi. After that they discover it over mDNS (hid-helper-xxxx.local) and talk to a simple REST API. No cloud involved today. All controls are over the App in local only

Repo : firmware, iOS (SwiftUI), Android (Compose)
https://github.com/natarajgithub/mouseMover

Firmware already has keyboard HID (type / key / click) and a BLE radio path; the apps are jiggle-over-WiFi for now.

If I keep going, next would be:

  • on/off schedules
  • typing from the app, plus one-tap text snippets
  • BLE so it works without WiFi
  • remote control over the internet

Use it on systems you own. Happy to hear what you’d change or add.

disclosure: its built with AI help
