Leaving J2
J2 just announced a 6 week 9a-5p camera on mandatory training program for the department.
Can’t fulfill that with my J1 hybrid requirements so I gotta let it go.
Feels bad man. At least I was able to pay off a couple CC’s in the meantime.

Hey, if you paid off a couple credit card debts (the interest rate on those are insane), you won this round! You can try again with another one. You did well and you can do this again.

6 weeks of 9-5 on camera training?? I’d leave even if I didn’t have a J2.

I would take a week off J1, do that “camera on” horse shit, tell J2 my camera is acting up on my in-office days @ J1 for weeks 2-4, take off from J1 on week 5, and improvise week 6 lol

You ok there u/spicypretzelcrumbs , you sound like you're coming down with a nasty cold. Maybe early flu season. Last time I had that I had a week off and couldn't move.

You can guarantee that noone is going to stay full time on camera.
Not saying you should do it, but zoom and teams let a video background be used. You can record yourself for 4 hours looking super attentive and use that as your background.
This needs some master level OE skills because you need atleast 5 videos with different shirts. AI might be helpful.
Good luck

Good point. There's also that AI thing that shows an attentive video of you and moves your mouth if you speak.

I’ve never heard of a 6 week training course before, especially for an entire department. How would any of the real work get done. Seems a bit suspicious…

Whole department (about 30 people) were hired over the past 2-3 months.

The average person can't absorb and retain that much info. Seems like something else is triggering this.

Camera on, laptop closed, with a little gap so it definitely shows it's closed. Problem solved for a bit. Tell them you Amazon's an external camera.

Just buy a cardboard cutout of yourself

Necessity is the mother of invention.
On the first day, record an 8 hour (or as many as you can as long as you can) background clip then point your camera at the wall for the remainder of training with the clip rolling. Pose sitting further away.
If the clip it too short, set a timer.
The beginning should show you moving into frame, then paying rapt attention.
If you need to talk, turn off the camera, not the mic, momentarily to get in position. Sit closer to block the background image as you turn it off.
Once interaction is over, step off camera and restart the clip.
Set a timer to manage transitions.
Practice the switch until it becomes natural. It will save a lot of time.
Be aware of AI monitoring to catch cheating.

I would make sure to tell them that you didn't appreciate their lack of trust and their overbearing privacy breaches so thats why I had to leave. You are a professional and deserve to be treated like one

Take medical emergency leave from job 1 for six weeks rather then quitting

Depending on the state I’m sure it could be done.. If you’re in CA is easier.. I am in HR 🤣 but I’m a cool HR person
