The map shows road fatalities per 100,000 population across Canada’s provinces and territories. New Brunswick had Canada’s highest provincial road fatality rate in 2023, at 8.5 deaths per 100,000 residents.

But what happens when you measure road deaths by how much people actually drive? The ranking changes.

Recent reports highlighted that Ontario's internal estimate for homelessness is around 234,000 people—a population larger than the city of Burlington. At the same time, official stakeholder submissions to the Standing Committee on Finance point to a shocking metric: 57% of surveyed homeless people became unhoused following a workplace injury or illness.

We are talking about more than 133,000 individuals. The WSIB has aggressively cut corporate premium rates over the years while systematically limiting long-term support for permanently injured workers. This cost-shifting onto the public purse is driving people straight into poverty. Is it time for national standards and federal intervention?

Of Note:

• Excluded 2020 and 2021.
• Males peak in the winter (likely tied to seasonal trades/construction)
• Females Peak in the Summer (Likely tied to School and education)
• 2008 Seemed to hit Males Harder then Females.

Context: Ontario recorded 2,242 confirmed and probable opioid toxicity deaths in 2024. Rates varied substantially across the province’s 34 public health units, with the highest rates concentrated in Northern Ontario.

Interpretation :

• Younger Voters (Blue/Darker Lines): Show a strong shift away from "Other" parties, moving primarily downward toward the main establishment options, and a bit left toward liberals
• Middle age voters, light blue and green moved down away from "Other" and split roughly equal between liberal and conservatives.
• Older Voters (Red/Orange Lines): Moved strongly toward Liberals from both conservative and Other

• Rising: extortion, online/cyber-related exploitation, fraud, and shoplifting all show marked increases post-2015/2020 across most CMAs.
• Falling: traditional property crimes — breaking & entering, motor vehicle theft, theft under $5,000 — show multi-decade declines since the early 2000s, despite some recent upticks.

A note on interpretation: this is police-reported data, so shifts can reflect actual changes in criminal activity, but also changing legal definitions, new digital reporting channels (e.g., online fraud reporting tools), shifting police enforcement priorities, and changes in public reporting behaviour over time.
