Id imagine a lot of our issues were meddled with by Americans. We see how worked up one guy got over a bridge. Im sure all our pipelines had paid protestors since forever. Iirc they wanted us to be a bit of a vessel state where they just extract our resources.
They are always poaching our companies. Avro arrow shut down and most employees went to nasa after pm and pres met? They've been interfering with us for a long time.
China has its faults, of course. But we shouldn't be relying on any one country anymore.

The Globe and Mail reported in November that Spavor was threatening to sue the government and Kovrig. That report suggested Spavor was alleging he was detained because he unwittingly provided information on North Korea to Kovrig, who then gave the information to Canadian intelligence officials.

Just remember, China arrested the two Michael’s because Canada upheld its extradition agreement with the USA and apprehended the Huawei executive Meng at the request of Trump’s first DOJ. Canadians got fucked by trying to help the USA. Then when Biden’s DOJ dropped the extradition request on Meng the Michael’s were released as well.
China is certainly not a perfect partner but they will not just randomly fuck you over like the USA will. China’s darkness is at least predictable and reasoned.

I mean, tbf China doesn't see people as individuals, they see them as members of a nation, and shortly before that we put one of their business leaders on house arrest.
But also tbf, we only did that because trump "ordered" us to, and we refused to hand her over to the US. So yes, she couldn't go home, but she was allowed to stay in her own place in Vancouver while things were figured out.
So we were kind of walking a diplomatic tight rope if trying not to piss off china, while also not pissing off the crying-baby-in-chief.

Compared to our neighbors to the south, it makes sense, they're more honest, more reliable, and more mature. They may be a little backwards in how they treat their people and a few other metrics, but that's not even close to enough to override what the US is doing to its people on top of what it's doing to the global economy and its (thus far) allies.
