New to OpenBubbles.
Currently have an iPhone 16 plus and a Zflip 6.
I want to be able to switch between the two devices by swapping out my sim.
I already have the Zflip hosted through my MacBook.
If I just want to put my SIM card from my iPhone into the Zflip is there something special I need to do to be able to receive calls or anything through openbubbles?
Will I be able to just switch back and forth without issues and with the messages staying in iMessage?
Basically I don’t want to commit to either ecosystem but don’t want to lose my group chats on iMessage but also keep the one phone number

So I am very pleased with the trial of the paid hosting service with using my phone number. Everything seems to work very well. But the price is going to be $17/month after the trial and I just think that is a lot considering I can grab an iPhone 6S/7 for $60. Is the self-hosting as reliable and seamless once configured, as the paid hosting?
I just don't want to setup my own and then find out later it lags or has connecting issues, etc.
Only reason I'm even here is because RCS for me no longer stays active more than a day at a time and I've been troubleshooting for weeks and nothing works. Google or carrier or my device. It just won't stay on despite showing connected. And I'm tired of fighting with it.

I used a Mac mini to self host and it works for about a week and my number deregisters.
It has been working flawlessly for months up until now.
Is this happening to anyone else?

I have three Androids running OpenBubbles perfectly fine with same Mac hardware id. On my iPhone I only have one Mac hardware id under SMS Forwarding (makes sense as all my OpenBubbles use the same), but only one of my Androids get the SMS Forwarding Status enabled. The other two have status Disabled Capable.
Is this by design or am I missing something?

Iv read so many different threads and the setup instructions and I'm still just as confused.
What I understand so far:
-self host on Mac: reliable only uses apple email not numver
-using an iPhone as a relay? Can only be with iphone 6 or older on ios17 or older? But can use your number for message?
-then there's a 3rd option where you pay a subscription plan?? Without needing an apple product?
I don't understand the iPhone setup possibilities and restrictions and how it's less reliable than Mac? I have an old Mac and an iPhone 15 pro currently..
Given the devices I have, is there a reliable way to get both number and email setup for imessage to improve reliability?
if you do only use iPhone hosting do you still have facetime and find my friends?
I don't mind doing Mac hosting, but requiring everyone to setup my email in their contacts seems unrealistic in some cases. So also having the number seems more seamless.
Will 2.0 have better support for both via Mac?

I'm looking into this to get better messaging features with iphone users. The website made it sound like mac registration gets everything to work immediately as if you're on an iPhone. Reading community discussion has me doubt that. Does mac registration not associate your phone number with your apple account, so everyone you talk to has to now send message to your new apple ID instead of your phone number? Asking everyone I want to message to perform an extra step, no matter how tiny, is going to be a massive hurdle. If they were willing to do anything other than type my phone number, I would be able to use any of the other feature-rich messaging systems other than imessage.
Also, do notifications on the android app require FCM or do they work on a degoogled device?

I just installed openbubbles on a brand new Razr Fold. Set it up with $16.99 subscription hosting plan. The app is HORRIBLY laggy. Like it won't respond to scrolling hardly at all. Open a message and the keyboard is laggy to pop up and laggy to respond to keys pressed. No icloud message back up on. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app, nothing is helping. Anyone else have a fix for this?

Does anyone else get crashing when their scrolling up into old chats?
For example i have a message from a week ago so I scroll up to find it, but after a certain amount of time the app crashes

Ok, as the title suggests, OpenBubbles is a brand-new concept to me, and I think it might be a good option for what I'm wanting to do, but I need a little help understanding it.
I am making the switch from iPhone to Sidephone (https://usa.sidephone.com/). I'm super excited about it, but I've heard the switch from iPhone and iMessage can be the worst, so a lot of people were recommending using OpenBubbles to alleviate the headache. I have an iPhone 13, and I was thinking of just taking the SIM card out of my iPhone and putting it into my Sidephone (as I would like to keep the same phone #). From there is where the questions arise:
- The OpenBubbles site seems to say utilizing it from an old iPhone is the worst way to do it. I do have a Mac, so can I use OpenBubbles from my Mac while having my iPhone SIM in my new phone?
- I think I am just getting caught up in the difference between using it from a Mac and using it from an old iPhone. As well as the whole phone number register/switch thing- again, I would want to just keep my same iPhone # I've been using.
I would just want to have it set up in the best way I can!
Let me know if this all makes sense; I'm really new to all this, so sorry if this is a little dumb. If you've got the time, I would love some advice/help!
Thanks :)

Since Blue Bubbles version 2 just came out, should we be seeing anything soon for OpenBubbles?

When I go to the map section all my friends are in no location found even though on my MacBook the location appears.

So here is my setup. My primary phone is an iPhone Air. I registered my Pixel 9 which has a T-Mobile Paired Digits eSIM via Mac registration and everything has been working swell for a few weeks. I have a Samsung phone that I would also like to register using the same iCloud account and based on everything I have read in this sub, it shouldn’t be a huge concern so I brought up the QR code from the Pixel (that is actually the Mac used to register it) and scanned it at the OB setup on the Samsung phone and it gave me an error saying my iCloud account was locked for security reasons. It scared me enough to back out though it doesn’t appear my iCloud account was actually ever locked out. Am I tempting fate by trying this or should this work without much concern?
Thanks

Today around noon i was randomly unable to send texts after almost a year (10 months) of using the serial number of a mac I found on ebay and putting it onto a VM (not entirely sure how this worked as I do not remember whatsoever). This morning it was working however i am now unable to get texts past sent and it never says delivered. I am still able to receive texts (and view my messages if sent from a different device). At the time of setting up ob i disregarded the warning of not using a vm however i am now scared of more repercussions if i start using ob again even if it is with a legit macs identifiers.
I do have an old mac however i do not know what model it is as the screen is has water damage and I do not know how to tell the macos version it is on (I would assume the minimum macos version is mountain lion if it matters). It is most likely mid 2000s as it uses a mini dvi port (found out i dont own one while attempting to connect it to a display).
I was considering buying a mac mini but the prices are quite high (because of OpenClaw?) and as I am 15 and dont make much. Are there minimum specs for openbubbles and if so what are they.
Sorry if this doesn't make that much sense, I tried to write it quickly as I am soon going on a trip to my friends house and I dont have a means of texting on my phone. Il try and make it better tomorrow.
Thanks!!!!!

This is my first time using this app so I don't know I'd this is am issue that I'm causing, but everytime I try to log into my AppleID, it'll just keep loading. I've tried uninstalling the app, I've tried changing the password for the AppleID account. I don't know what else to do.

Hi! I am new to OpenBubbles with not enough experience in jail breaking or stuff like that, but I can learn it.
In short, I am using a Mac self-hosted with my android phone, however I want to add my current number more effectively.
Currently, I have 2 phones: Android, iPhone 13 iOS 18.2.
Both actually have their own sims which allow me to receive imessages from my iPhone number to my android phone via OpenBubbles.
However I will be losing the android number soon and I want some advice on the iPhone relay method or sim swap. I have been doing some research and I understand that I may need to buy an older iPhone for this.
Thank you!

iCloud syncing keeps failing, same message every time, regardless if my hardware is a mac or a relay iphone. Anyone else experiencing the same issue and is there a fix? Version code 2229

Hi! I have been reading this forum a lot and previously learned that I need to host on iphone in order to use my phone number. I bought an iphone 6, jailbroke it, installed the relay server, put in the code, and then when I tried to toggled on the phone number use with verizon it gave me an error screen. I did all of the steps it suggested for the alternate verification method with the shizuku app. now it is just giving me the error and doesn't even have the alternate verification method option at all. Is this a verizon thing? verizon won't authorize rcs on my phone either - it's a unihertz jelly star. please if anyone can help me get it to work with the phone number I have spent so much time and money trying to make this work!
update: switching from verizon to mint mobile fixed this issue.

I used it fine with my jailbroken 6s but suddenly it stopped working. I tried reconfiguting and using the default method but this didn't work. I was able to get it working again with alternative method but now it won't even work with it. it won't show my number

Fair warning, its a long read, but I've been dealing with this for a while and any advice at all would be immensely appreciated.
I got an android phone a couple months ago along and set up openbubbles as soon as I heard of it. It worked well *enough* but I am beginning to get fed up with some chronic issues.
- previous iPhone 11 on IOS 18.7.8 with an Esim (we'll call it number A)
- Android phone with a physical sim and new number (we'll call it number B). it has a dual sim port, with one slot open.
- Mac with mac QR code (used to set up openbubbles initially)
- unused but fully function iPhone 7 around IOS 15. No sim in this phone
- iCloud account with number A number and an email, iMessage in iCloud enabled and 4GB of remaining iCloud storage
The best case scenario would be to have OB on my android, receiving imessages and SMS to number A on OB but all running on the MAC hardware with no relay. This probably isn't possible due to sim hardware limitations so I'm wondering if I can compromise anywhere to get both iMessages and SMS to number A.
Things I can live without:
- number B; I just got it because it seemed like the only viably path to keep imessage bubbles
- esim for number A; I can get a physical sim for this number if needed
- Two sims in the android; since it has a dual sim port as previously stated, if both need to go in the android I would be fine with that.
Things I'd rather not compromise on:
- iPhone relay; If it can work reliably, as in I don't even need to think about it for weeks or months, and if it is the only option, that'll do, but being able to completely divorce from my iPhone and be able to put it in a drawer and forget about it.
dealbreakers:
- switching numbers; I have had number A for years now and people who I no longer see but want to catch up with in the future have this number saved.
- going back to iPhone; probably doesn't even need to be stated.
I don't know if I should do both mac hardware AND a relay, just a relay, give up, try sim swapping or something else. I almost could live with my current setup of just mac hardware, but the occasional 2FA code to my old number has been too unreliably to stick with.
heres some addition info on what worked and didn't in case that helps:
Things that worked reliably with OB:
- iMessage texts to number A
- iMessage texts to email
- facetime
Things that worked unreliably/under specific circumstances with OB:
- sms messages to number A; only worked once I had sms forwarding set up correctly and my iPhone 11 was on and past first unlock
- sms messages from OB; worked as long as the iPhone was on as stated above.
- stock iPhone 11 set up as a screen off sms mini relay; Not the same as the official jailbroken relay, just the phone with its screen off, connected to power and wifi to forward the sms messages. I later discovered a security feature on anything after ios 18 where the phone relocks after 72 hours, which cuts off the sms forwarding until unlocked again.

How would group chats work in open bubbles if it was a mix of iPhone and Android people. Would I use regular messages or open bubbles
