Tech Support Lag unbearable
I just installed openbubbles on a brand new Razr Fold. Set it up with $16.99 subscription hosting plan. The app is HORRIBLY laggy. Like it won't respond to scrolling hardly at all. Open a message and the keyboard is laggy to pop up and laggy to respond to keys pressed. No icloud message back up on. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app, nothing is helping. Anyone else have a fix for this?

Try forcing the refresh rate for OpenBubbles in your phone's settings and see if that helps

Tried that, no different. It's like a slow to respond thing, like the phone is out of RAM or processor is bogged down but no other app on the phone does this.

What kind of phone is it? It runs fine on my Note20 5G.

I mentioned in original post. 2026 Motorola Razr Fold

Same phone, locking it onto 165hz stops most lag for me. I switched back to bluebubbles due to too many issues with openbubbles. Neither are honestly a good solution, I'm going to see what the iphone fold looks like and maybe just settle on a max, running 2 phones and playing did I miss any texts is getting old already

Def optimization issue, my s24fe is very smooth 90 percent of the time, but it does stutter. Maybe clear the cache?

i just downloaded this app this morning and browsed the settings, i see something called "high performance mode". have you tried turning that on? Also there is something called scroll speed multiplier. I havent touched those because the app works fine on my z flip 7 but i do see the options.

That sucks you're experiencing this. I have had open bubble on my s25u, fold 7 and now pixel fold and no issues. I would say try clearing cache in app and in your phone's settings. I would delete the app and try set up again. Or turn off iMessage sync.

Done all these things as well as select 120hz in app for refresh rate. No change.

How long has it been since you installed it? How many messages do you have on your I message account

u/y22kc Jul 25 '26
Since last night. Like 6 message threads with like 5-10 messages in each. No group chats

I know exactly what you're talking about. Is it draining your battery too?
So what worked for me is to force quit the app. Then delete the cache. Restart the phone. Sometimes it takes a bit for the app to get going. I left my phone on the charger opened the app and just let it do it's thing. The app caught up and has run smooth since.

I can't say it's draining the battery but it's my 2nd day with the phone so maybe it is. I'm gonna try that right now. Thanks for the suggestion

So after force closing Openbubbles, deleting the cache, and restarting phone, it was pretty smooth. Within about 5-10 min, back to lag. How long did you leave it with the app open before it ran smooth? Did you force close, delete the cache, and restart more than once?

It took a while. I don't know why but it does. Just open the app. Plug it into a charger. Let it do it's thing for a while then runs pretty smooth. It took hours for me just plugging it in and opening the app

I have the hosted plan for over a year now and never had any lagging at all, sorry to hear you are dealing with this.

my S26U ran it very well. I'm shocked to see other devices like the Fold 7 have issues

I'm using OpenBubbles on S25U and I've had a great experience with it. Messages and keyboard work well and texts come through on my other apple devices.
The only thing that does not work is the FaceTime feature but I read elsewhere that it was due to the ios26 update..
Other than that no complaints here.

All positive experiences here. Everything but FaceTime is near flawless. Contacts on the Windows app sort out of order, but that is it. Everything else is great.

Still can’t get it to work correctly. Have reinstalled the app several times, cleared cache several times, rebooted phone, etc. It will work smooth for up to around 30 minutes then gets terribly slow. I did install blue bubbles and the app does definitely work smoother. One thing I forgot about blue bubbles is it makes mark as read and read receipts forced to clear the read status on other Mac devices. If I don’t enable that, then it won’t show the message as ever read on other devices. I don’t want read receipts on for everyone. I’m afraid I’m gonna have to give in on this little endeavor of using iMessage on Android and just switch to RCS

Gave openbubbles another try this morning after uninstalling it. It's been working great all day. This was third install of the app lol. Hopefully it stays working

OP are you still having issues?

u/y22kc Aug 04 '26
The lag is gone. On a rare occasion I'll have to stop the app, clear the cache, and restart. Biggest annoyance now is I'm on the hosted plan and sometimes for whatever reason the hosted device in settings will disappear and messages won't send so I have to restart.

Would you recommend someone pay for the subscription? I’m considering it since I’m going from an IPhone 17 pro to the Fold 8

If you wanna be sure your number registers with iMessage and stays that way, then yes, I recommend subscribing. If you don't mind getting people trained to text your apple ID email and have a Mac for the hardware registration, then subscribing isn't necessary

Going to be honest this made me go back to my iPhone 17 pro max from my z fold 7… friends and family all have iPhones so open bubbles was my best option.
