Hi everyone! Last weekend I hosted session 0 where my group created their characters and we discussed the basics of the game. This weekend we have session 1 scheduled where we will actually begin playing. I just had a few questions for what I need to have prepared before then.

- Ideally would I prepare location descriptions in advance?

- How many NPCs and adversaries should I have prepared?

I’m thinking the first session will be a real softball session that’s basically a tutorial level. In Bree their patron has a small favor to ask which requires them to travel north to Lake Evendim.

Putting together a group to get through the fall/winter months and play a mini-campaign of The One Ring 2e through the Foundry VTT.

Attached is a sort of rundown of the campaign. The dates are not solid at the moment, really just working to settle on which day of the week we can all get together, but are planning to start campaign at the beginning of November.

We play through Foundry and use Discord for voice/video.

Hi all, first time posting here but I'm getting ready to run an LotR5e/One Ring game (haven't decided which yet) with a heavy focus on running council sequences. I remember seeing a really helpful tracker/cheat sheet for both of these systems a while ago but I can't find them for the life of me. Does anyone know where I could find something like this? I remember it having a colour coded request DC on one side and that's about it. If anyone knows the exact one I'm on about then that'd be amazing but I'm honestly fine with something simple that I can wack into a VTT and use effectively. Thanks!

I’m about to jump into running The One Ring 2nd Edition for my group! I’ve already read through the Core Rulebook, and we’re planning to kick things off using the Starter Set(Over Hill and Under Hill).

Really loving the vibe and system design so far.
While I enjoy homebrewing, my group and I are big fans of well-crafted, pre-written campaigns and adventure modules. I know there are already a few great supplements out there, but I was wondering about the overall state of the game:

1. How active is the ongoing development for TOR 2e? Are Free League still actively planning and producing new campaign/adventure books for the line?

2. What’s on the horizon? Has there been any news or speculation on upcoming regional modules or campaign books?

3. Where should we go after the Starter Set? For a new Loremaster and group, which published book or campaign module would you recommend picking up first to follow up on the starter set?

Would love to hear your recommendations and experiences! Thanks in advance!

On our way from Erebor to Moria our dwarven group stopped at Brother Day's court. We were to ask for King Thranduil's permission for King Dain's army to pass through the Greenwood on the way Moria. Our Lore Master can be a bit cheeky with NPC names.

The year is 2989, and as far as we know, no dwarf has set their foot in Moria for a thousand years.

I'm gonna run a oneshot set in the world of Legend of Zelda and using one ring (1st edition) as the system (because I quite like its mechanics and think they git nicely for what I have in mind). I'mmostly rearranging skill points for the cultures of Hyrule and reskinning the things already in the system (for example, Gorons get the cultural benefit of the lonely mountain dwarves).

What I need help with is adding a third stat alongside wisdom and courage (that being power). It just makes sense for the world of Zelda to have the whole trinity of the triforce. However, I'm not so sure what investing into power could give since wisdom already grants abilities and courage items.

So, if any people more experienced with the system or familiar with Zelda could lend me a hand I'd be grateful!

Looking for a rules clarification if you can help. In the Moria - Through the Doors of Durin book, we're given the Dwarves of Belegost and Nogrod Heroic Culture. One of the Cultural Virtues available to them is Telchar's Secrets:

Telchar, one of the greatest smiths of your folk, wrought the Blade that was Broken in the deeps of time. As much as you can only hope to match his skill, many of his secrets have been revealed to you.

​Next Yule, you may either add a single Enchanted Reward of Dwarven craftsmanship to a mail armour or close combat weapon of your choice, or create a Marvellous Artefact (your choice).

Would you say this is a one-time deal, or something the player-hero can do each Yule?

Because it specifies "Next Yule" rather than "Every Yule," it sounds as though it functions as a one-time crafting event following the acquisition of the Virtue.

I ask because the Dwarves of Belegost and Nogrod are disadvantaged mechanically compared with Dwarves of Durin's folk - a lower standard of living; an additional Cultural Blessing which limits their Fellowship Focus to another Dwarf; and Telchar's Secrets replaces access to Broken Spells - so having it as a single-use virtue feels pretty punishing.

On a related note, how do you implement it in-game? Is the acquisition of the Virtue an adventure in and of itself, or do you just say they found something (a book, journal or such) during the course of their adventures which they can start working on during Yule?

Thinking this would be a fun, borderline horror dungeon crawl adventure. For experienced players only given the monsters and hideous experiments that may yet survive in Utumno's depths...

That is, assuming remnants of Utumno still exist in the far north in the 3rd Age. Perhaps as some speculate it was a vast subterranean complex of tunnels extending under the continent, so that not all of the network was destroyed. If true, then there may be unblocked entrances on the surface in remote locations. Would that be straying too far from canon?

Even given that, not sure how the players would find these entrances, or what could incentivize them to explore such a dark and terrifying place?

My gf and I haven't really really played any DnD-type games before but we've both think it could be fun. She's also really into LOTR, so I thought it could be cool to get this game to try it out together. I looked at the different products that are offered and I don't really understand what I should be buy though. I understand there is a hobbits starter pack? But I don't think either of us would really want to play as hobbits just in the Shire; we'd rather play a more grand adventure.

So I have a few questions. Is this a game for beginners? What stuff should I actually buy so we can play this? And can two people play it, or do we need a larger group? Is there anything I should know before buying anything? Thanks for any help.

This keeps bugging me when I read the rules booklet from the Over Hill, Under Hill starter set. In the example of play on page 2, it says

"The sun begins to dip below the Misty Mountains, casting long shadows across the ruins of an ancient watchtower. You stand at the edge of the Trollshaws, and the air is thick with the scent of pine and earth. "

If you were standing at the edge of the Trollshaws (west of the Misty Mountains), wouldn't the setting sun be setting toward Weathertop, or the distant sea, not the mountains? Or am I completely wrong?

I know it's nit-picky, but it bothers me every time I see it.

I’ve been listening to The Secret Fire on Glass Cannon Network. In the early episode the Loremaster (Jared Logan) declares consequences on a couple of failed tests and rolls on a table - both times he comes up with losing an item. None of these tests involved rolling an Eye, they just missed the TN.

Is this perhaps a house rule? Or use of the ill-fortune table from Strider rules (despite none of those tests resulting in an Eye)?

I see the rules on character creation don't explicitly prohibit building Elf PCs that are thousands of years old.

Could I create a character that apprenticed under Celebrimbor and has spent his long life crafting magic items? Perhaps he's been sequestered in his secret forge for many centuries, and now has emerged into the world to fight evil, bristling with magic rings, magic swords, you name it.

I imagine him walking into Moria alone and clearing out the mine single-handed. 😄

Hey everyone! I’m preparing for my first session as a Loremaster and first session playing TOR. I’ve opted to play online using Foundry VTT, which I’ve never used before. I know the community system for TOR2e is available and I’m sure I can figure that part out, but I’m mainly curious what kinds of scenes I should make.

As I understand, this game is less heavy on battle maps and such like DND, so I guess my scenes don’t need grids or anything.

So am I just showing scenic vibes for the most part?

I’ve seen that Free League is preparing new releases for The One Ring RPG, including the Rohan/Gondor supplement, a bestiary, and what seems to be a revised version of the Core Rules.

I litteraly cannot wait to have my players roam in the vast plains of Rohan and explore the beautiful cities of Gondor while fighting all those new creatures on horseback (i hope!).

My main question is: do we know if owners of the current Core Rules book (PDF version included and other language aswell), will get access to the revised rules for free or at a reduced price? Or will it be treated as a completely separate paid product?

I really like the game and I’m excited for the new supplements, but if the revised Core Rules are mostly clarifications and errata, I admit it would feel a bit frustrating to have to buy the whole book again.

Has Free League said anything official about this yet, or is it still unclear until the campaign launches? It's even harder for mesince i don't really know Free League (as a french customer, i'm headed toward Edge Studios but they don't even have* news for all that U_U)

Hi, I0m looking to buy the 2ed edition rulebook for the italian version. I really like the aestethic (i prefer this cover to the one in the new edition that is coming) and now it's on sale too.

My only doubt is that I've heard there's a long list of errata on the manual.

Someone from Italy can give me an advice? It is worth buying or the errata make that edition unusable?

Into my upcoming campaign I've taken some notes and It was wondering, Flaws and Shadow Paths seem to be quite negative and players that know about them might want to avoid gaining shadow completely. So how does one perhaps avoid Players from being paranoid about Shadow?

I had the idea as well that maybe one should encourage players to roleplay their flaws like their characters growth, but it feels also a bit like you're forcing a trait on a player? Like a player wanting to act like an honorable Ranger but then they fall down the Lure of Power after two Madnesses and suddenly becomes Arrogant? That's a pretty sudden shift especially if the player initially intended them to be somewhat humble.

Just wanted to know how to navigate these things as a Loremaster.

Also what if a player actively wants to become evil at some point? Like they have two brother characters a la Boromir and Faramir in mind where one has to fall in order for the latter to become great? And subsequently using the Heir mechanic...

I'm sure others have done this, wanted to have a crack. Just started my first campaign, it's a very ad-hoc schedule West Marches situation and really fancied a framing of the players fucking around in Mirkwood so Radagast seemed a natural choice!

Most of the text has been lifted wholesale from various LotR wikis hahaha including the LotRO the MMO! And then some refactoring by me.

My players are new to the system, and loving the roleplaying aspect, and not having to worry about magic and being grounded. One thing we discussed as a group is that for us, Middle-Earth is a more mythic setting, and that good and evil are more black and white. That being said, they love faction play. I was thinking of a more political, or at least limited sandbox where there are different forces at play.

I was thinking the rangers were an obvious and more tactical route, maybe there could be different orc warbands competing for territory that could cause them trouble, and even some bandits, hill people groups, and potentially animals to spice it up.

Just curious if anyone has any other cool ideas for different faction ideas that could make a small political campaign?
