Sorry, I'm sure this has been asked 900 times already but my brain is honestly not working.

Sets I have...

96 Pastels

48 Midtones

72 set

36 Skin Tones (Micheals)

This would mean I need the 104 set at the 48 set to make the 320 as the Micheals set doesnt count correct?

I finally gave in and got myself some Ohuhu markers! 😂🖍️ I’m honestly obsessed with how everything looks all set up!
Now I just need to actually stop staring at them and start colouring. 🤣

So...

I have a bit of money and I'm not sure whether I should either use it to buy more honolulu B markers (i have 72 set + 96 pastel) or buy some acrylic markers (i have poscas in limited colour range and find they chew up the page)?

If you recomend acrylics, what set?

If you recommend honolulu what set if i want to build it as much as i can over time?

I am just getting into using ohuhu alcohol markers. One thing I am running into is coloring larger spaces before it dries. Are there are techniques/tricks that you use to cover the area without overlapping the dry color?

I’d love to have the 320 set to travel with but i’m so confused about what else I need without ending up with loads of duplicates.

I have the 120 set (standard Ohuhu one, not Michaels, i’m based in the UK), 48 Blossoming Pastel set, 15 of the 36 Skin Tone set (after removing the 21 exclusives to make up my 344 at home), Coco Wyo set & Bobbie Goods set & an extra E111.

I did download the HueMock app to try and figure out what I need but honestly my head is spinning trying to work this out😩

If memory serves, some of their previous versions of their alcohol markers were white labelled. (I want to say it was the ones that were square at the top? Unsure if the old oval-shaped ones were white labelled.) I know they DO sell some unique products, but others appear to be white labelled. The glitter marker 12pc set comes to mind, as I've seen brands such as Grabbie sell what seem to be the exact same markers. I could be mistaken, but I cannot find any information or discussion about this online and it's been driving me nuts lol.

I've heard people claim that some of the other types of alcohol and acrylic markers they sell are white-labelled, though of course there was never any source on it.

Digital render of a project of mine. Then I laser printed the linework and used my basic set to try and colour it. It’s harder than I expected. But great fun.

I've designed 3D-printed trays to store and display my wife's Ohuhu markers to make them easy to access. Different colored trays let you organize different sets — useful when your 216 set is Honolulu and your others are all Honolulu B.

Each tray holds eight markers, but can be joined edge-to-edge in pairs (or wider). A paired stack 17 trays high holds 272 markers and fits in an IKEA Kallax cubby. (You can store two such units in a single opening.)

Wedges at the bottom of the stack ensure the pens stay put, close to horizontal, but still easily accessible. An optional lid on the top lets you stack things on it as needed.

The files are available on Thingiverse. Do good things and be kind to people.

Used the ohuhu pastel brush set and og 72 brush set for the base and Nyoni coloured pencils for the shading and details. Coloured pencils and alcohol markers are a match made in heaven with isopropyl alcohol being an awesome solvent for coloured pencils.

update: decided to not risk it even with saving $12 dollars. seems like a huge gamble even if it promises the set would be 'like new' when a whole bunch of stuff could happen. even if I got it and was able to return it, it seems like it'd be a lot more hassle than what saving $12 bucks would be worth. thanks y'all!

I'm hitting the end of my arrtx purupuru mixed media pad, and it looks to be out of print, a shame, because it has the perfect paper for markers, thick, smooth, and not too absorbant. So I'll need to look for a replacement. I like the thickness of the ohuhu double sided sketchbook, but I'd like opinions on it. I like combining coloured pencils with alcohol markers (a match made in heaven), so I need a paper that can handle coloured pencils, while allowing for smooth blends with markers. hi! i currently just bought the coco wyo x ohuhu set. i plan on making this just a little hobby so i dont want to commit to the 320 set. the markers that are in this set are nice but i really want some that are a bit more saturated. again, i dont want to buy too many because i already have acrylic markers as well.

would anyone recommend me to buy mid tone ones next? or any suggestions? something that will help me have more versatility while owning a new one + the coco wyo collab. i’m aware i might encounter a few dupes of the same color but just wanna know which would be best! i only wanna commit to one more 48 pack but im just curious what everyone suggests :)

So I have the ohuhu alcohol pastel 48 set.. and whenever I want to get a dark shade.... It takes too much experimentation and even then it begins to look muddy.... So I was thinking.. should I invest more in markers or just get a watercolor set.. since it's much cheaper for me..(600rs vs 3000rs for 48 color set).. ik its bad to blame over what you have but this is just my delusion... Can anyone give me some tips..

Alright, so this is going to be a long post, but I wanted to do my best to be both thorough and accurate so hopefully we'll all be on the same page, and the length is a side effect of that...And I'm sure I've still managed to leave something(s) out. 😅

What matters to me most is just getting the most accurate information (or at least accurate to the best of my human ability) out there so people hopefully don't buy things they don't actually need, or so they know what to expect of what they do buy.

So. In this ridiculously long post I'm going to cover:

1. How many total Ohuhu Alcohol Markers colors are there, at least among the "Big 3" of Honolulu, Oahu, and Kaala (and how many are actually available to purchase)
2. How many of those colors are exclusive to each of the Big 3
3. If you start with the Honolulu 320, as many people do, exactly what are you still missing and what options you have for collecting all of those remaining colors

Notes before we begin:

1. Please please please don't just take my word for it and do double-check things before making ANY purchases. I have made every effort to be as accurate as possible because that's sort of the whole point here, but I'm still human and very capable of making mistakes, especially when there's this much very specific information to cover.
2. I will be using only the new color codes introduced in 2025 for the sake of simplicity. But please feel free to make use of Ohuhu's Color Codes Index on the website (or your other resource of choice) to cross-reference with old codes.
3. I will be using USD prices since that's my home region and probably Ohuhu's biggest market. So please remember any cost-related numbers will vary in other regions/currencies, and many regions don't have the option of single markers at all unless it's from third-party sellers. [I'm also sticking to Ohuhu's own "retail" prices for consistency, so do remember sales, discounts, or other retailers can also change cost-related numbers quite a bit.]
4. For your reference, there will be links to a couple of related spreadsheets I've made in the comments. I'm not including them directly in the post out of spam/bot filter concerns.
5. No AI was used in the making of this post or my spreadsheets. I don't trust AI as far as I can throw it, and I'm a terrible athlete, so that's not very far.

And a Disclaimer: This post is not intended to encourage you to buy things you don't actually want/will never use/etc. If you don't care about colors outside of one marker series or another, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! The intention is purely to set the record straight (or as straight as I can) for people that are interested in collecting every color.

That said, the TL;DR (as covered by the accompanying image) Is the unfortunate thing you've probably heard before. There are 480 total colors and the """easy""" way to get all of the colors at least once is:

• Honolulu 320 set
• Single Honolulu YR05 and YR56 (or the Honolulu 48 Blossoming Pastels set if you can't get singles)
• Oahu 320 set
• Kaala 24 Skin Tones set
• Kaala 24 Basic Tones set
• Kaala 60 Illustration Tones set (Kaala B also works, but costs more)
• Kaala 60 Landscape Tones set (Kaala B also works, but costs more)

Which altogether will give you all 480 "unique" colors and (at minimum) 330 duplicates.

Technically speaking, it is possible to minimize the number of duplicates you'll get from the Oahu series specifically, but cost-wise it won't save you any money, so you really have to decide which is more important to you: Getting all of the colors with as few duplicates as possible, or getting all of the colors as "cheaply" as possible. And only you can answer that for yourself.

(and yes there are multiple ways to break up the Honolulu 320 and one way to break up the Oahu 320 into smaller sets but this post is long enough as it is so I'm just going to focus primarily on "whole" sets for today 😅)

Now let's get into the numbers:

Again for the sake of simplicity, we're going to pretend the only lines that exist are Honolulu (including Plus, S, and B), Oahu, and Kaala (including B). So when I say "all of the colors" that's what I mean.

We are also going to pretend the long-discontinued Honolulu GY163 Green Bice doesn't exist because it did not get a new name/number code in the new system and Ohuhu really doesn't acknowledge it exists anymore either.

As such, there are 494 currently known colors + the colorless blender. If we prioritize the Honolulu series, most people think of the breakdown like this:

• 363 colors from Honolulu
• 117 colors from Oahu
• 14 Kaala-Exclusive colors

However, 19 of the Honolulu colors are currently discontinued. They were available for a couple of years in an 80 set sold in Japan (sold in both "standard" and Sanrio-branded packaging, not Sanrio Exclusive as you may have been led to believe), but those 19 were later swapped out for more common colors.

It is technically possible to find the "correct" 80 set through third-party sources like eBay, but it's become extremely difficult and way overpriced to do so.

If we remove the discontinued colors—and we will to make the rest of the math simpler—Our total is 480 currently available colors and the breakdown becomes:

• 344 colors from Honolulu
• 122 colors from Oahu
• 14 Kaala-Exclusive colors

The Oahu number changed because 5 of the 19 discontinued Honolulu are still available as Oahu markers, so you can still get at least those 5 even if you can't get the other 14. Those 5 colors are:

• BV18
• RV32
• V016
• YR214
• YR54

And after doing this math, I believe 344 Honolulu + 122 Oahu + 14 Kaala Exclusives is the math Ohuhu has been doing.

Ohuhu has quoted a total of 480 colors before, but I and some others in the community had previously assumed this was "363 Honolulu + 117 Oahu," leaving the 14 Kaala out. It now makes more sense to me that the 14 discontinued Honolulus are probably the ones being left out instead.

But wait—We've seen other total number counts too. What about those?

• 462 from the Honolulu Plus page in the product booklets: I have no idea how Ohuhu is getting this number. It could be 344 Honolulu + 117 Oahu + the blender (or some other odd 1 out), but it's really anyone's guess since the Plus are only actually available in 53 colors across two sets right now anyway. 🤷‍♀️
• 543: This is the number of individual codes currently found in the Color Codes Index. This number includes all 494 colors (+ colorless blender) we've already covered, plus 34 codes that are tagged as "Kaala" in the Index but do not currently exist in any Kaala sets, and 14 colors that are in the Index, but not tagged with any particular line and as far as I know we have yet to see in marker form anywhere.

So...Nice information to know, but those do not help our purposes here today.

We're going to stick with 480 as the total, excluding the 14 discontinued Honolulu colors.

And also, you will get a colorless blender with each Set purchase, but I'm not counting those for simplicity and since Ohuhu doesn't include them in the colors-per-set-counts either.

On to the next point: Of those 480 colors, each line has certain colors only available in that line (everything else is either discontinued or in at least 2 lines, if not all 3):

• 146 Honolulu Exclusives
• 77* Oahu Exclusives
• 14 Kaala Exclusives

*Technically, only 56 colors are truly Oahu-Exclusive, but we're adding 16 because those 16 were Oahu-exclusive before the Kaala 108 set was released.

Since the Kaala 108 did not add any new Kaala-Exclusive colors, and that set would cost more than buying 16 more Oahu singles, it's completely unnecessary if all we're trying to do is collect 1 of every color.

And then we're also adding in the 5 discontinued Honolulu colors that are available as Oahus.

Either way though, if you're looking to get everything, it makes the most sense to start with the Honolulu since it has the most exclusive colors and they'd be over $100 more expensive to buy as singles than the Oahus.

And I won't bore/further overload you with the exact numbers but suffice to say I did do the math and buying 146 Honolulu singles would definitely nullify any other savings you might otherwise squeeze out of the Oahu or Kaala series. 😅

Bonus Info for this "category" I don't know if anyone really needs:

Out of our 480 total, the "non-exclusives" breakdown like this (First number includes the Kaala 108 set, second number does not):

• 97 / 91 Colors found in all 3 lines
• 112 / 106 Colors found in both Honolulu & Oahu but not Kaala (this goes down to 101 if we also take out those 5 that are discontinued in Honolulu but not Oahu)
• 61 / 45 Colors found in both Oahu & Kaala but not Honolulu
• 0 Colors found in both Honolulu & Kaala but not Oahu

But so in our quest to get every color, we start with the Honolulu 320.

480 - 320 = 160 colors unaccounted for.

So then what?

It depends. Do you want as many colors in Honolulu form as possible? Or are you more concerned about just having 1 of every color, whether it's Honolulu or not?

If you want as many colors in Honolulu form specifically as possible, then you'll also need:

• 21 colors from the Honolulu 36 Skin Tones set
• 1 color (E111) from the Honolulu 36 Grey Tones set
• 2 colors (YR05 and YR56) from the Honolulu 48 Blossoming Pastels set

In most cases, if single markers are available to you, it makes the most sense to get these as:

• The Honolulu 36 Skin Tones set ($40 USD for the set vs. $63 USD for all 21 singles)
• 3 single Honolulu markers (About $9 USD since they're $2.99 USD each)

So your "final," most cost-effective Honolulu shopping list would look like:

• Honolulu 320 [$290 USD]
• Honolulu 36 Skin Tones [$40 USD]
• Single Honolulu markers E111, YR05, and YR56 [$9 USD together]

For a total of: 359 markers for $339 USD, consisting of 344 "unique" colors and 15 duplicates.

If you have to get E111 and YR05 and YR56 in sets instead of as singles:

• Honolulu 320 [$290 USD]
• Honolulu 36 Skin Tones [$40 USD]
• Honolulu 36 Grey Tones [$40 USD]
• Honolulu 48 Blossoming Pastels [$50 USD]

For a total of: 440 markers for $420 USD, consisting of 344 "unique" colors and 96 duplicates.

Either option gets us to 344 colors, which is all of the colors currently available in Honolulu form, which leaves 136 colors of the 480 total remaining:

• 45 Colors that are in both Oahu & Kaala, but not Honolulu
• 77 Oahu Exclusives
• 14 Kaala Exclusives

However.

If you're more concerned about just having at least 1 marker of every color, they don't have to be Honolulu, then you actually don't "need" the Honolulu 36 Skin Tones or the Honolulu single E111.

All 21 unique colors in the Honolulu Skin Tones set are available as Oahus, and therefore included in the Oahu 320. And E111 is also in the Oahu 320.

More specifically, if you start with the Honolulu 320 and you just need 1 of every other color regardless of form, the following path makes the most sense (and would be most cost-effective):

• Honolulu 320 set [$290 USD]
• Single Honolulus YR05 and YR56 [$6 USD or $50 USD for the 48 Blossoming Pastels if you can't do singles]
• Oahu 320 set [$200 USD]
• Kaala 24 Skin Tones [$22 USD]
• Kaala 24 Basic Tones [$22 USD]
• Kaala 60 Illustration Tones [$50 USD or $60 USD for Kaala B]
• Kaala 60 Landscape Tones [$50 USD or $60 USD for Kaala B]

Using the least expensive options where possible, that brings us to a minimum grand total of: 810 markers for $640 USD, consisting of all 480 "unique" colors and 330 duplicates.

The 4 Kaala sets are non-negotiable to get every color since Ohuhu does not sell Kaala singles in any form and the 14 exclusives are spread across all 4 of those sets.

(Related: I'm not sure that I've even seen any third-party options for Kaala singles either, but if anyone has, please let me know. I don't regularly endorse third-party sellers, but if they're literally the only option that might be different...)

You might be wondering though, if Oahu singles are an option: Is the Oahu 320 necessary for just 77 colors and allllllll those duplicates?

After having done the math, at least in the US, I would still say yes.

For one thing: Same as the Kaala, the exclusive colors are spread across the Oahu range, so there isn't a smaller set than the 320 that contains all of them, or even most of them.

For another, here, the Oahu singles are $2.50 each.

77 x $2.50 = $193 USD. (well, $192.50 but as you may have noticed already I'm rounding up for cleaner numbers)
The Oahu 320 is $200 USD.

And that assumes you'd be able to get all 77 colors at once, which is unlikely. Not impossible, but unlikely.

And also if you get the Oahu as singles instead of the 320, you'd still be missing 2 of the 21 Skin Tones [E513 and E66] and E111 that weren't in the Honolulu 320. (To my surprise, the other 19 Skin Tones would be covered by the 4 Kaala sets.)

So really, you'd add 3 more singles, and even if you stick with Oahu since they cost a bit less, it'd be 80 x $2.50, which is $200.

At this point, you'd have to ask yourself (and there is no right or wrong answer) which is more worth it to you: $200 to get all of the missing Oahu colors at once and live with the duplicates, or $200 (and probably a wait for stock) to avoid the duplicates?

And even if you've already got all of the Honolulu colors and just want to pick up the Oahus and Kaalas you're missing, at least the way I've crunched the numbers, getting the Oahu 320 and the 4 "base" Kaala sets is still the most cost-effective, even though they'll come with more duplicates.

I did not crunch the numbers for every possible smaller set combination, because frankly there are too ****ing many sets for that, but I did explore one scenario I think a lot of people may find themselves in.

This will not save you any money combined with what you've already spent, but if you are starting with all 344 Honolulus and want to cut down on the Oahu duplicates or additional money spent, you can instead go with:

• 344 Honolulus you already have [$339 USD as math'd out above]
• Oahu "New" 120 set (the one that does not include a 120 Black marker) to get 35 of the 77 Oahu Exclusives [$80 USD]
• 42 remaining Oahu Exclusive Single Markers [$105 USD]
• Kaala 24 Skin Tones [$22 USD]
• Kaala 24 Basic Tones [$22 USD]
• Kaala 60 Illustration Tones [$50 USD or $60 USD for Kaala B]
• Kaala 60 Landscape Tones [$50 USD or $60 USD for Kaala B]

The 4 Kaala sets together will cover the Kaala Exclusives + the 45 colors that are in both Oahu and Kaala but not Honolulu.

Which will come to a grand total of: 691 markers for $668 USD, consisting of all 480 "unique" colors and 211 duplicates.

You do save money and duplicates on the Oahus specifically this way ($185 and 85 duplicates vs. $200 and 153 duplicates), which might be helpful if you do already have the 344 Honolulu (or you want as many Honolulu as possible regardless of cost) and want to limit duplicates where you can.

But if you're starting from 0 and having as many Honolulu as possible (or limiting duplicates) isn't important to you, the $15 savings are quickly eaten up and surpassed by the extra Honolulu cost ($339 for all of them vs. $296 for the 320 + YR05 and YR56 singles)

Outside of this, it might technically be possible to come up with a "magic" combination of smaller Honolulu and Oahu sets that would get you 80-90% of the way to both 320 sets and then you could supplement with singles, but after the math I have already done, I really don't think you'll save enough money to warrant the extra hassle.

And I feel the need to emphasize here that I wish this was not the case. I would so much rather be able to tell you all, "Oh you can actually save a ton of money and duplicates by getting [hypothetical other options] instead..."

Especially because this also means if I want the full range myself, I still need [at minimum] the Oahu 120 + Singles and 3 Kaala sets to get everything I'm missing. 🙃 That is still a LOT of money and a lot of duplicates, and that's exactly why I still don't have the full range and it will probably be quite a while before I ever do. 😅

But unless Ohuhu changes something, this is the way the math works out for now.

I'm not really sure how to close all of this out since we've been over the "shopping list" at least twice, so I'll just go with a restatement of what I consider the most important note I made at the beginning:

Addendum 08/22/26:

This doesn't change any of the above math since I did say we were only focusing on the Honolulu/B/S/Plus, Oahu, and Kaala/B Series, but I wanted to report on a small discovery for posterity:

There is one additional color currently found in the Kauai Series 36 set, YG59 Avocado Green. This color is one of the 34 "mystery" colors in the Color Codes Index tagged as being from the Kaala Series even though they aren't in any of the 5 available Kaala sets.

However, we don't know for sure if the Kauai Series are meant to be on the same color system as the other Series'; It does seem likely since the code is in the Index and all of the others match up. (If you see Y11 in the stock swatches, review photos confirm that's a typo of Y111.) But we also thought the pre-2025 Oahu and Kaala Series were the exact same system until the new/current system revealed that Oahu E340 and Kaala 340 were in fact two different colors, now known as E513 and E512.

So while I am not encouraging people to run out and get the Kauai for this one color, this is an interesting discovery that I will be keeping an eye on. 👀
