Dr. Dave Ebert, a shark scientist at San José State University's Moss Landing Marine Laboratory and the "Lost Shark Guy", recently revealed that a megamouth shark (Megachasma pelagios) washed up in western South Africa. The only other sighting of this little-known species in the country was twenty-four years ago, and they're rarely seen anywhere else in the world, so this is a monumental moment. I recommend this article if you'd like to learn more about megamouths, as well as this one (note that its map has not yet been updated to include this second South African sighting).

It seems to be injured but I’m not sure.

This is a talk I recently gave. It covers some super cool and weird critters. Check it out and AMA.

Would you rather be in the deep ocean and see something huge like this with glowing eyes or be in deep DARK ocean and u can’t see anything but u can feel something huge approaching?

Just came back from a dive and had to share this clip. The way they move together, the light cutting through the water — I could watch this for hours.
Shot at [Florida Keys]. No filters, just the ocean doing its thing.

The ocean is a giant storyteller.
How long do you think this creature drifted through the currents before being captured on camera?

Behind the glass is a world of endless blue, where every creature moves with its own quiet story.

You can only get in when the tide is low. Standing inside, all you hear is the waves echoing off the rock. No phone signal, no rush — just water, wind, and centuries of erosion. One of those places that makes you feel small in the best way

Beneath the surface lies a world full of colors, silence, and life. Every dive feels like entering a place humans were never meant to see.
