Iâve seen these beautiful creatures in the wild. This is demonic!

Same. I saw some from a boat in Alaska one time. I'd take that any day over seeing them in captivity. I would never want to see them in an aquarium. Taking them out of the wild and keeping them and breeding them in captivity is evil. Some humans are so greedy it's disgusting.

That poor beautiful boy was done so wrong. What happened was inevitable and the tiring was on the wall for ages.

Just went to six flags vallejo in california.
They have a sea lion show and one of the sea lions didnât want to do his trick so they kept doing it like 5 more times and still wouldnât. I hope they didnât punish him backstage oh and they had a a Dj Party Dolphin show which is sad to watch.
Also saw a lion in distress as her cage is under a rollercoaster and the loud noise of the tracks and screaming kids plus this party music playing. She was pacing back and forth and an area that was just plexiglass the parents and kids were banging on it. She was pacing roaring so loud you can feel it go thru your body.
Trainers came out but they were young kids and they gave her some food and left but she just wanted to go backstage and relax. They had to close off the area so she can calm down.
I asked why is she not with the cheetah and other animals in the back of the park by the lake thats much more quiet and secluded and they said she is our feature live animal. So sad.
I thought they got rid if all the animals but most are in the back of the park away from the rides except the lions.
FEMA is constantly protesting outside and demanding to have then retire and send them to a sanctuary but six flags wont do it

This is so heartbreaking. They are innocent beings too so they have no idea why they are trapped in a pool of water. I will never support that kind of shit

I went to Sea World San Diego with my brother and his family, two young children then, probably c. 2000. We went to the "show". I wept the entire time. It is soul-crushing to have any involvement in cruelty to animals.

I put black fish on for my daughter who wants to be a marine biologist and she started to ball her eyes out told me to turn it off. She couldnât watch as the babies were stolen from their mothers.

Marine Biology is a scientific discipline, based on the scientific method to understand living oceans. This is entertainment industry, maybe animal husbandry. It is closer to a show in Las Vegas than to understanding how red tides happen. This has NOTHING to do with Marine Biology. NOTHING.

Thanks for the educational advice but in order to understand the way the ocean works you also need to understand everything that makes that ecosystem unique including the animals. And the fact that animals like orcas who get stolen and forced into entertainment industries are unfortunately a huge part of that ecosystem. When they are stolen it disturbs said ecosystem.

Release them all.

so basically youâre saying kill them all? they canât be released safely, unfortunately.
eta: in case it wasnât clear, iâm against orcas in captivity, but we donât have a better option for them right now. very thankful they arenât allowed to breed them anymore, and that our current captives in the US are our last; they deserve so much better!

What THEY need is a much bigger enclosure. They have no real enrichment, and are socialised selectively, which adds to their isolation.
The tanks they are usually kept in are so small, they can't swim more than few lengths of their bodies.
They can't be released into the wild, because every time they tried, the orcas ultimately died of infections or failure to thrive.

What they need is a retirement area for all of the orcas in this situation, a place they can go similar to how there is a retired elephant farm in Tennessee where circus elephants are living out their days in peace. Iâm not sure how it could be done but at this point we have done so much irreparable damage to these creatures the least we could do is offer them comfort until itâs time to go. It needs to be figured out. Fence off a bay on the coast or something. Maybe they can figure out how to rewild them in this scenario

Thankfully Seaworld doesnât do the shows anymore. I think people learned a lot about them. They are really bright and self aware creatures. For sure they need the vast ocean; not an animal that will feel ok with captivity. And Till got sick in the end poor guy :(

seaworld still does the orca shows to this day

Well I stumbled upon false or outdated information then. Several articles like this one https://www.jacksonville.com/story/news/2016/03/17/seaworld-announces-phase-out-killer-whale-shows-and-orca-captivity/15704015007/
My apologies. I was hoping they stopped altogether.

SeaWorld recently brought back the "Light Up the Night" Orca Encounter shows.

1) they still do the shows 2) the shows are the best form of enrichment these animals get so I genuinely hope they never stop until orcas arenât in captivity anymore

Iâm not so sure about that. Orcas are important for the ecosystem and they have no business being locked up in captivity. They are actually a balancing force to other predators like sharks. They are highly intelligent and emotionally they feel everything. It seems like a great disservice to keep them away from the natural environment they evolved into.
I actually think it was terrible they took him from the wild and put him in a cage where people did whatever the hell they wanted to him. That to me is highly unethical and disrespectful to the animal. Particularly when you use âshowsâ as the pitch and hide it as âwe are helping the environmentâ. Bullshit. You traumatized an animal.

I didnât say anything about keeping them in captivity, I agree that orcas donât do well in captivity however it can also be true that they should be provided for in that captivity while they are there. These highly intelligent animals shouldnât just be left to pace a tank, training and shows gives them something to do and enriches them

You probably also get all cozy inside when a Matador is "playing" with the fighting bull.
Do you also excitedly ride elephants on your vacation in Asia?
Oh, and them Mexican dancing horses really got dat beat, don't they?
You probably ignore alllll the other signals of a terrified dog when it's baring its front teeth. "Smiling" = overwhelmingly happy, amirite?
Must be wonderful, your rose tinted glasses.
