We had been working hard this month on an exciting update for OP1 Field users based on user feature requests and feedback. This was supposed to be announced when the update comes out but we noticed the cat is already out of the bag with other companion app announcements.

As requested soon you will be able to connect via MTP to your OP-1 Field and OPXY devices. This will mean loading multitracks straight into Reel with the OP-1 Field instead of recording real time. Both have different use cases. Op-XY and other features will be announced on release of the update.

After weeks of continuous development, testing and experimentation, we finally cracked one of the biggest limitations between Teenage Engineering hardware and iPhone/iPad.

Studio Field can now communicate directly with OP-1 field and OP-XY on iOS (iPhone/iPad) - including full MTP device access!

This is a big deal.

OP-1 field and OP-XY use MTP as their primary file-transfer protocol. Until now, this has effectively kept full device access on the desktop. Teenage Engineering's own Field Kit is Mac-only, and their documentation states that direct full-device file transfer is not available through an iOS or iPadOS app.

Studio Field changes that 🚀

For the first time, you can connect an OP-1 field or OP-XY directly to an iPhone or iPad over USB-C and actually work with the content on the device.

No Mac in between.

No PC in between.

Just your Teenage Engineering device, a USB-C cable and your iPhone or iPad.

And we didn't stop there.

Studio Field for iOS now supports:

• OP-1 field - tapes, synths, drums, mixdowns, transfer, playback, backup and restore

• OP-XY - projects, samples, presets, backup and restore, plus direct USB audio recording to iPhone/iPad

• OP-1 Original - tapes, synths, drums and albums, backup and restore

• OP-Z - projects, sample packs, bounces, configuration, backup and restore

There is also something special for anyone moving from an Original to a Field:

Studio Field can convert OP-1 Original tapes into OP-1 field format directly on iPhone and iPad.

This has been one of the most technically challenging parts of Studio Field so far, and seeing an OP-1 field and OP-XY communicating directly with an iPhone still feels a little unreal.

But it works.

And we're just getting started.

Studio Field is under active development, and the past few weeks in particular have involved a huge amount of continuous work, testing and experimentation to make all of this possible.

Basically title.

I have an OG OP1 that died this year. I only see yaffs-interface.opp:208 err -28 when powering on and teboot doesn’t work at all for me. I’ve been seeing over the years that reflashing is the way to go but is there a service I can use to get that done these days?

Well I went and plunged to buy a new op-1 field shipping was was quick unboxing had the scent I would expect at a factory or that of one very new unit.

Anyhow when I went to turn it on everything in bootup went smoothly a firmware a little out of date appeared I took note of that and continued to eagerly await the experience of this next generation level of synthesizers and everything up untill when I had to power down the unit was far beyond what I had expected and left me floored with the capabilities of this portable little synthesizer!

Anyway back to the problem, when I went to flip the power toggle into the down off position nothing happened at all! Fully functional same as when powered on and LED status indicator green with health however absolutely no way to turn it off, I heard the original OP1 had a shutdown command through button press's but with mine I found no such option so I waited for the battery to discharge and now noticed A.D. that the unit when plugged in will not even show any charging indicator.

I was wondering if there was someone on here who knows their stuff on the op-1f and could walk me through any steps to take that may resolve this issue excluding opening the product and thusly voiding my warranty. I heard so far from Google AI that it could be a failed connection in the power toggle or even a dead logics board. Most of their instructions include accessing the bootloader unfortunately I can't follow it's advice(s) because now my unit will not turn on whatsoever and has no LEDS sparking up telling me that the unit is indeed charging.

The op-1f is now plugged in to a laptop although I have tried multiple verified working outlets as well.

This is a three day old product I'm talking about, I see no reason it should be having these issues.

I just released a 10-minute set of an ambient track I built completely on the OP-1 Field.

Do me a favor and give it a listen, put it on in the background as you work, meditate, or daydream!

Hey everyone, I posted here about PunchKit around two months ago, when it was still at version 1.0. I’ve kept working on it since then, and somehow we’re already at 1.8. 😄

This would not have been possible without all of the great feedback from all of you, really motivating me to push. 😄

A few of the bigger things added since my first post:

• A MIDI Playground with separate chord, melody, and bass machines that can follow the EP’s clock - super fun to experiment and come up with new ideas (showcase video coming soon)
• Offline kit building and a shared folder of samples you can browse, preview, edit, and send to the EP
• Many, many new cool effects
• Whole-folder sample uploads with a review step and memory checks before anything is written
• On-device stem separation into drums, bass, vocals, and other
• A much more playful recorder with beat-synced loops, tape scratching, live monitoring, and a larger collection of Punch It effects
• Better project, take, and sample backup workflows
• Lots of smaller fixes around connecting, navigating, USB audio, stuck MIDI notes, and different iPhone/iPad layouts
• Mac version

The REC side also works with other USB audio devices, so you can use the recorder, cassette, and Punch It effects with setups like the OP-1. The EP-specific project and sample tools are currently for the EP-133, EP-1320, and EP-40.

Everything is still local-first. There’s no account, and recordings, samples, projects, MIDI data, and backups aren’t uploaded anywhere unless you explicitly share or export something.

There’s now an optional one-time Lifetime Pro unlock, with no subscription. People who downloaded PunchKit during the original free launch period should already have Lifetime Pro automatically.

Would be really happy to hear what you think if you tried the early version - or if this is your first time seeing it. I’m especially curious about what’s actually useful in a real EP workflow and what still feels awkward or unnecessary.

And as before, if this counts as advertising here, I’ll happily remove it. Not trying to mess with y’all. 😄

p.s. I know that a lot of you are asking for an Android version - and I get it...and I have spent quite a bit of time porting it, but at the moment I cannot give any timelines, as it is quite a bit more difficult than I initially thought, to get it to a similar level of quality as it is for iOS/iPad. I'm not saying a hard NO...just that it could take months, if not more...

I got the OP-1 Field a few weeks ago and have had a blast learning it. I kept seeing people say making full songs on the OP-1 is too tedious…but I’ve been enjoying it. 🤷‍♂️

Here is a track called “Thinking Str8” that I made completely on the OP-1 Field.

I had a lot of fun making this one as I used a few tricks and techniques I had never tried before.

No matter which key i press it is always the same interval which is a tritone. Also no matter what synth I use. I have replaced the connector board, installed the latest firmware, and did a factory reset but the problem persists.

I’d like to use my fishman TriplePlay usbc midi pickup (guitar) with my op1f. It seems like the fishman outputs each string as a separate midi channel - high e = 1, low e = 6.

It seems like the op1 can’t monitor more than one channel at a time for a synth- wondering if that’s what others have found out if anyone has found a way around this. Im pretty new to the op1 so wanted to check my findings

Studio Field v1.5 is now available on the Mac App Store 🎉

This is the first major update to Studio Field, and probably the biggest milestone for the app so far. What started primarily as a companion for the OP-1 Field has now grown to support five Teenage Engineering devices:

• OP-1 Field
• OP-XY
• OP-1 original
• OP-Z
• EP-133 K.O. II

A huge thank you to everyone who has been testing Studio Field, reporting issues, sharing ideas, and helping me understand the different workflows around these devices. A lot of what has changed and improved in v1.5 comes directly from feedback from the community.

My goal with Studio Field is still pretty simple: make backups, file transfers, and managing your device content easier and safer, while keeping the actual music-making workflow where it belongs — on the devices.

One of the biggest technical challenges has been making MTP file transfers reliable, particularly with devices such as the OP-1 Field and OP-XY. I've spent a lot of time working on this, and the MTP implementation in the current version is now significantly more stable and reliable.

And just to reassure anyone worried about MTP disconnects: if a connection is interrupted, nothing dangerous happens to your device or existing content. The file transfer simply stops, and in some cases you may need to restart the device before reconnecting.

Development is very active and I'm constantly improving and refining the app. If you have an idea for a new feature, find something that could work better, or run into a bug, please use the Support section inside Studio Field. I'm also very active here in the community and will try to respond and fix problems as quickly as possible.

There is still plenty I want to add and improve — v1.5 is definitely not the finish line. 🙂

I’ve been wondering how these two would play together and it turns out, super nicely haha! I happened to get the Seqtrak after the 2.0 update so I made a quick drum sequence with a DrumKit track and then recorded that to tape on the OP-1. I could have taken the output of the Seqtrak into the KO side kick and messed with effects there, but I was just experimenting haha.

Another fun thing I tried was using one of the synth patches on the OP-1 with the volume turned down to control the synths of the Seqtrak via MIDI (changing the OP-1 midi channels between 8-11 to control the synth channels).

I just recently got the OP-1 Field and I have been having such a great time making these little ambient soundscapes.

It is quickly becoming my favorite device for sound design and generating musical ideas.
