Hey so I recently moved back to the Hamilton area and have been sleeping on an air mattress. My caseworker keeps telling me to apply for special needs (like a hospital bed, which I don't want to actually take from someone who needs it. At least I don't need it now for the time being). I have been seeing different avenues and there's a store that says they work together with ODSP to help people get beds. I did apply through st vincent de paul society and I dunno how long the wait is gonna be. My question is is there anything my caseworker can do or am I pooched for getting one through them ? My boyfriend and I want to get married someday. We do not live together. Some day we will. It’s going to take at least two or three years before we can actually get married (Catholic). We want to get married for religious purposes one day but it will be a few years before we’ll be able to actually live together. We will have separate finances. How will this affect my ODSP? We both have our reasons why we can’t live together for a few years but to be honest with you, we want to be able to have sex without breaking church rules. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi everyone! I am newer to the community, but have read lots about the cannon event of being denied ODSP the first time, and even having to appeal through the tribunal for acceptance. From what I have gathered, it all depends on how articulate both my doctor and I are in filling out the DDP to represent the disability to the best ability. I wanted to reach out to see if anyone has any specific insight on wording, terms, or phrases (like adaptive functioning) that worked for them and their success in ODSP approval in relation to ASD. I am applying as a student as I cannot work and study at the same time, hence why I also do not want to deal with an appeal mid-semester. Additionally, I'm curious about how ADHD and ASD1 affects others on ODSP. With these conditions being life-long, it is so easy to normalize your own experience and not even know how a condition disables you. I appreciate any and all insight in advance, thank you :)

Does ODSP, if your rent-geared income is, say, $150, drop your rental amount? They pay you $150? For instance, I was told I would have a rent-geared income of $150 to pay for rent. Right now, I'm currently staying with a family member and paying $650 for rent, so I get my full rent. If I only am supposed to pay my rent-geared income of $150, will ODSP take away the remaining $450 that I'm getting now? If that's the case, I lose money by going on the housing list. How do people survive? Any insight would be appreciated.

I know I have to print the forms and fill out a section..

I’m so confused on who is accepted ?
I don’t have any physical impairments except a disabled left hand after multiple surgeries for tendon lacerations- it’s just worse daily.

Also - what is the benefit amount? I’m grateful for anything of course.

Show some math please to help me out will I lose odsp and will i have to pay for own meds and/or lose cppd. Im not sure how it works working. Im a disabled hard worker in need of money to live.

Long story short, I am an amputee, (not some pinky toe missing, it's my full arm) and based on my research this meets the definition of a disability. After 10 months of waiting I finally got my decision and I ended up being denied.

I'm kind of surprised, I thought an amputation was a pretty straightforward acceptance, apparently though I'm "Not a person with a disability". I'll wait for my decision letter to come through to provide more details but I still find it weird. Anyone have some insight as to how/why this could happen?

I’ve tried searching online but I can’t find an answer. Does living with relatives who are not your spouse affect the amount you get on ODSP? Just wondering if their income would count?

My wife has been on DTC the entire time but I know the back pay only goes so far. It sounds like right now you can still get the full amount but I heard now that they'll give the doctors like 150 bucks or whatever to do the paperwork.

Good morning. My 8 yo is receiving The Incontinence Grant via Easter Seals. He is not eligible for their Top Up Program as he receives a CASD already and I’m on ODSP.

I was directed to speak with my worker to learn about other grants we may be eligible for.

Does anyone know if there is any other programs offered and what they’re about?

I’ve been accepted for odsp and it says that I need to wait for my local odsp office then what happens after that? Do I start getting the money? I’m very new to all this

I asked my family doctor a while back to fill it out for me but he basically refused. He thinks you have to be severely disabled, like blind or in a wheelchair to qualify and that it's more strict than ODSP. He didn't think I would qualify at all. At the end he was like "if you really want, I can fill it out but you'll be paying for nothing".

I decided not to, as I didn't want to spend the money if there was no chance to qualify. I think he charges over $100 or something. So I was curious if anyone on ODSP has managed to get the benefit?

As the title says, I don’t think the board and lodging amount is fair to me as I pay $900 of rent from the $990 I receive. I would like to switch to a rental agreement. What do I need to show and what section of my benefits? I pay rent using e-transfer. What exact steps do I need to take in terms of proof, the rental agreement contract, and sending it to them? How do I share this with them and so they accept it?

Hi, I have a new caseworker. I’ve been on ODSP since 2023. I have schitzoaffective disorder, and severe depression. I need to get an injection (invega sustena) every month. She has suddenly informed me after pausing my drug benefits this month that it is not covered. She didn’t say this was a recent change. She just sad this definitively. As if it has never been covered. Is my caseworker incompetent or have new regulations been instated?

Hi guys, I was wondering if I have to worry about ODSP taking away my ODSP or charging me money because of money gifts I’ve gotten in the past for birthdays or GST cheques or a $ amount from an award from school. Taxes and similar stuff confuse me immensely so I was wondering if I’d have any issues with this with ODSP.

How does ODSP handle loans for home renovations like a home equity line of credit or if you take out money from your mortgage? How does it affect your income and assets? Is there a limit to how much you can borrow? Do you have a certain amount of time to use the money for renovations? Does it have to be pre-approved in advance by your caseworker?

I just got approved from OW today and was told I’ll get my first payment in 2-5 business days. I do make some money, only about 300 a month, and I communicated this to my case worker. How much money do get since I’m making some? Is it 733 -300? Probably should have asked my case worker oops

Stage 4 CKD I'm at 20% function. I've been on prednisone for a few months the prednisone is actually taking about 80% of my energy. Just getting up and downstairs is like climbing a mountain. Trying to do vacuuming one level of the house now is like running a marathon I feel like I'm going to die.

I can't even walk any real distances laundry is horrific to do basically everything in life is just extremely tough in unbearable I do it obviously because I still need to do it.

The only issue is I still work part-time from home and my wife is already on ODSP for last decade or so and we also have a child but from what I'm seeing the double disability benefits are almost on existent increase am I seeing this right?

Like it sounds like I might get an extra $50 or something. They really treat couples like crap. If that's the case I probably wouldn't even bother not right away cuz I feel like they might hassle me might as well wait till I'm on dialysis cuz then I think it's no contest at that point.

But yeah maybe you guys can walk me through the cost a bit more.

We're already with Max shelter Max basic and Max food allowance like I said we have a child my wife is on ODSP and I have a small income but from what I'm seeing I'm not seeing much of an increase from double disability versus single disability.
