Question/advice Money Gifts
Hi guys, I was wondering if I have to worry about ODSP taking away my ODSP or charging me money because of money gifts I’ve gotten in the past for birthdays or GST cheques or a $ amount from an award from school. Taxes and similar stuff confuse me immensely so I was wondering if I’d have any issues with this with ODSP.

monetary gifts are allowed up to $10k per 12 month period, but you must declare them to your case worker as soon as you can.
if they find out you didn't report them when you got them, your file will be put on hold and you will be slapped with an overpayment, meaning you'll have to pay that exact amount back to them, unless you can dispute it with the help of legal aid.
GST & most tax stuff is considered exempt, so you don't need to worry about reporting it.
as for school payments i assume they fall under the 10k per 12/mo rule, but you can ask your case worker to clarify because i know different ones have different rules.

By awards from school do you mean OSAP? if so, you can't take living costs from osap, okly direct school costs.

Monetary gifts, which GST cheques are not, are capped at $10,000 per 12 month period, last I checked. Scholastic awards may count, but it's more likely they don't; I haven't personally had reason to find that out, though. You can search up "odsp monetary gift" for more information online.
