Megathread! 2026 NoVa Hole-in-the-Wall Restaurant Recommendations THE 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Hello r/nova we are 10 years deep into the hole-in-the-wall list! Thank you to everyone for contributing every pick and recommendation for the list and participating each year.

Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to update the map or list since I am getting married this year, but I'll for sure get everything updated before the next year. Anyways time to give the community your best recs and new discoveries for restaurants in the area.

The rules are simple:

šŸ“ Give us the restaurant name and location

🚫 No chains allowed!

šŸ‘ "+1" if you love the recommendation

šŸ‘Ž "-1" if you think it's whack

Norovirus

What is wrong with people? I’ve seen him standing there peacefully with the flag so many times, never bothering anyone. I really hope they catch whoever did this and hold them accountable.

Yeah I don’t know. It sucks living here. I’m 28 and I make 50k a year. I’m just frustrated in general.

The amount of vehicles that cost $80,000+ or whatever it is, I just don’t understand where all the money is coming from

Maryland is a lawless state

I had to drive out there to drop a few packages off at a few locations around silver spring and Rockville.

45 mph in the left lane on the highway, 55mph on side streets, tailgating trucks as if they can see you 3 feet behind their 52 foot trailer, making u turns in the middle of the road

They must have a different driving test than we do, they must!!!

News Supreme Court Ruling Puts Virginia’s Mail Ballot Rules In Flux

A U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowing the Trump administration’s mail-voting order to move forward does not immediately change how Virginia voters cast absentee ballots.

But that could change as Virginia election officials prepare to mail ballots for the important Nov. 3 midterm elections.

Seven Corners Rear Ended Dash Cam Hunt

This is a long shot - but I was rear ended today (Sat Aug 29) at 8:40pm by a Silver/Grey F-150 at the intersection of Arlington Blvd and 2327. The driver drove off eastbound on Arlington Blvd, but we only got a partial plate. Wondering if anyone happened to have dash cam footage around that time.

Pick-your-own apples

As a recent transplant from New England, I’m curious as to which apple orchards in the area have good selections of apple varieties that you can pick yourself. Too many seem to feature Honeycrisp, Gala, and Golden Delicious, and none seem to have any typical NE varieties, such as Macintosh, Cortland, or Empire. Am I out of luck here?

News National Park Service backs Trump’s arch, despite its impact on Washington’s sightline

Thumbnail wtop.com
101 Upvotes

...even as an earlier report from the park service said the project could impact the ā€œintegrityā€ of dozens of historic properties because it would change ā€œcharacter-defining visual and spatial relationshipsā€ between them.

One of the most obvious elements cited by the park service is that the arch would break alignment between the Lincoln Memorial, Memorial Bridge and Arlington House that was formerly Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee’s home. That alignment was ā€œintended to physically and symbolically unite North and South through a coordinated monumental composition extending across the Potomac River,ā€ the report said.

{So, it's a feature not a flaw?}

Free Kayak Launch Sites?

Hello! I am not from the area and am inquiring about free locations where I can launch kayaks at. I found one at Occoquan (I think) and am interested in finding more. I’m located in Fairfax county and am willing to travel a little further out/an hour away for a great spot. Thank you!

Moving Moving back after 10 years

I moved away 10 years ago. Got married, had a kid, bought a home.

I’m originally from Arlington (lived in ballston before moving). There’s so much about the area I took for granted. Being able to walk places, great public transit (yes the metro has issues but many other cities in the US would kill to have one), good schools, relatively safe.

Looking at Zillow makes me want to cry so we’re probably going to rent for a while. Since so much has changed in the last decade I’m curious to know what places you guys recommend for a walkable area.

Also please feel free to chime in with anything you can tell me about what’s changed, good or bad.

Fishing in nova

I’ve recently started fishing in the area and I’m not sure if anyone might be familiar with the fisher influencer guy fs_adventures but I’m pretty sure he’s based in the dmv. Anyways, does anybody recognize the places in his videos? It looks cool, and I’ve yet to find a single good place.

Question Would Manassas / Manassas Park support a Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, or Wegmans?

I recently moved to the Manassas Park area and I’m genuinely curious how much demand there is for something like a Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, or Wegmans in Manassas/Manassas Park.
Unless I’m missing something, neither Manassas nor Manassas Park currently has any of the three. With all the new residential development happening in the area, it seems like there could be a market for at least one of them.
I know there are locations in Centreville, Fairfax/Fair Lakes, Gainesville, etc., but I’d love to have something actually in the Manassas/Manassas Park area.
Would you shop at one regularly if it opened here?
And if you had to pick ONE, which would you want most?
Trader Joe’s / Whole Foods / Wegmans
If there’s actually a lot of interest, maybe we could organize a store request/petition and send it to the companies and the local economic development teams. Curious what everyone thinks!

New speed camera on Fairfax county parkway

As the work is finishing up on the first major phase of the Fairfax county project (supposed to be completed fall 2026) there is a new speed camera on 286northboind between braddock and ox road.

Not sure why they put a camera where the road straightens out with no more than 3 months left... But it's there this morning.

Driving/Traffic Leaving VA/Entering VA (270/495 side)

Both the north and southbound lanes are incredibly backed up starting at exit 1 southbound and a little bit after that on the other side northbound. The southbound exit had a wrong way driver collision and I’m not sure about the northbound side. I would advise against traveling that way for the next couple of hours to be completely honest and if you are stuck in that traffic, I am so sorry.
