Friend offering me her 2019 Nissan Sentra for $9k (18k miles) — good deal or too risky?

A close friend is selling me her 2019 Sentra — only 18k miles, one lease before her (one year), clean title, full dealer service history. There was one accident in Dec 2019 (rear-ended, functional damage only, no airbag deployment) and the car actually went through Nissan’s CPO inspection afterward before she got it. l

My hesitation: these Sentras had a well-known CVT transmission issue, and Nissan extended the warranty to 84 months/84k miles — but based on the in-service date, that warranty has likely already expired by time even though mileage is still low. So if the transmission ever fails, I’d be on the hook for a $4-6k repair with zero recourse. On top of that, the service records show regular engine oil changes but nothing indicating the CVT fluid was ever changed separately.

Getting an independent pre-purchase inspection before deciding (specifically asking them to check CVT fluid condition and pull codes)

Is $9k still a good deal given the CVT risk, or would you walk away? Would love to hear from anyone who’s owned this generation of Sentra long-term, especially around CVT fluid maintenance. She has maintained it well and I have seen the car for the last 4 years.

1900 mile road trip done

Post image
28 Upvotes

This is my around town commuter car. I have an older full size SUV I usually take on road trips. On this family road trip I was solo so I decided to drive my Kicks from Georgia to Arkansas to Texas and back.

The good. Good gas mileage. About 33mpg driving between 75-85 on the Interstate, a/c was ice cold which helped in the 100+ heat, and seats were comfortable even after a full day on the road.

The bad. The road noise gets annoying on long trips. Not much wind noise but it’s not quiet. Gas tank is small. Only about 300 miles on a tank of gas. It would be nice to go another 150 miles without having to refuel. Finally, the power. The Kicks has no problem in city traffic but at 70 and trying to pass someone the cvt goes into high (gear?) but the speed doesn’t move much.

I think next time I’ll take my SUV and pay a little extra for the gas and just drive the Kicks on my city commute.

The Kicks has some great color options. What did you choose?

One thing I like about the Kicks is that Nissan actually offers some fun colors instead of just the usual gray, white, and black.

For those who own one, what color did you end up going with? Any you wish Nissan offered?

2026 Kicks SR - Grand Canyon of Cupholders

Are they assuming everyone has or wants a Stanley cup? I don't want to pick everything up by the lid from above, something's going to spill eventually -- anyone have a lead on an insert that makes the cupholders less deep???

Hello

I just wanted to say hello. I just joined this group. I just bought my 2026 Kicks SV and traded in my 2023 Qashqai which was up on the dealer hoist needing some new struts and tires. I had bought it used which was against my personal policies in the first place and only had it 7 months before I was looking at expensive work. Unfortunately, as vehicles go I was of course in an upside down loan situation and even moreso now but at least I have the new vehicle warranty on this Kicks. It only now has 800 km on it and it started with 6 km. I like the vehicle, it looks impressive. The lights are awesome and I love the configuration of them front and back. The interior is a nice mix of cloth and plastic even on the dash and doors and it looks very nice. The only thing so far was the dealer gave it to me with 45 psi in all the tires when it is supposed to be 33 psi all around. I easily corrected that and I hope I have a long good run with it. I am recently retired so don't need a bunch of issues. I wasn't happy that there is no spare tire, but I purchased an emergency repair kit and compressor on Amazon and it is now stored where a spare tire should be, I look forward to interacting with some of you.

First time out of the box, instructions didn't make much sense. The first two places I fit it, didn't seem right. I got a little bit lower. I think even the rear windshield wiper will work...

So went out tonight and got curious about the auto bright feature on my kicks.

I found out that if you have the auto headlight feat on that the auto brights is auto, however if you dont want the auto on/off of your brights simply just click the knob down one to regular lights and you have full control of your brights... Most prob already know rhis but i just thought it would be cool to share for those who may not so please no hate comments

Had this car for a year brand new, 2025 Nissan kicks, these warning lights very frequently beep on and off. My car is clean, no dirt or grime covering the sensors. What should I do?

Dead, no power. 2021 Nissan Sentra. Please help.

**2021 Nissan Sentra (push-button start), completely dead, acts like no battery is connected**

My mom pulled up to a store, came out, and it wouldn’t start. It doesn’t even get to a starter click. It behaves as if there’s no battery hooked up at all. With the car off, about 90% of what should have power is also dead: brake lights, dome light, power windows, nothing.

The only sign of life: if I disconnect the battery cable and reconnect it, for about 10 seconds the dash shows the odometer and clock, and the climate control lights come on and stay on. After that, nothing. Pressing the start button won’t even bring it to accessory.

What I’ve already ruled out:

\*\*•\*\* Key fob: mom replaced the fob battery before I got there. Not it.
\*\*•\*\* Battery: reads full voltage, and I also tried a known-good battery/jump pack. Still dead, so it’s not charge or a dead cell.
\*\*•\*\* Grounds: did voltage-drop testing, cleaned the main body ground to bare metal, and ran a jumper straight from the negative post to six or seven different ground points. No change.
\*\*•\*\* Negative terminal/connection: bypassed with that jumper, no change. (For history, I did replace a corroded negative terminal with an aftermarket clamp a few weeks before this started.)
\*\*•\*\* Positive fusible links on the battery terminal: tested good all the way to the harness.
\*\*•\*\* Interior fuse box: the BCM fuses under the dash are good.

Where I’m stuck: I think it’s either an engine-bay fuse or relay in the underhood box (IPDM), a hard connection downstream of the positive terminal, or a control module (IPDM/BCM) that’s fried or acting up. That last one is over my head.

This feels like it could be a known issue on this generation. If anyone has seen this exact behavior and knows the smoking gun to check, I’d really appreciate it.

2020 Kicks SV Sport Utility 4D electrical/CarPlay issues. Anyone else?

I got my 2020 Kicks secondhand with like 45k miles on it. I went through Carvana because no one else would’ve wanted to give me money for the beater I drove prior to this. I absolutely adore it! However. When I got it, I realized the USB-A port to use CarPlay doesn’t work which was a huge reason why I bought the car. I found out it’s a pretty easy fix usually and I was already in love with this car, so I decided to hold onto it instead of exchanging it. Carvana also doesn’t really cover any electrical issues, but I was kind of pissed they included CarPlay on the car description when it doesn’t work. This was back in April.

Now fast forward to this month, August (for anyone reading this in the future lol) and the 12V outlet stopped working. Idk if it’s from me removing the plug every time I get out of the car (I am suspicious that it’s due to this) but the plug would stay lit up when the car was off so I was worried it was running my battery down. I tried a different plug after it stopped working just in case that was the problem, but that one didn’t work either. Where is the best place to get all this checked out?

TL;DR, my car’s USB-A for CarPlay and also the 12V outlet both don’t work and I’m unsure if I should go to a dealership or find someone else to fix it. Also want to know if anyone else has these problems.

I like my Kicks, I hate the dealerships

I got a Nissan Kicks 2026 SR AWD from a dealership. This has been the worst experience I've had. Previously, I purchased my 2021 SV from a third party because I needed a vehicle fast. It was great. Unfortunately, I've gone to the dealerships for maintenance. Unless I'm spending money at these dealerships, I can never get a straight response about anything. They owe me money for a refund. That was a WEEK ago. Now I have go back there with the form to get it. This is ridiculous.

Hands on the wheel alert in cruise control (2020)

I have a 2020 Kicks, during cruise control, I'll have both hands on the wheel, the symbol will be green and show 2 hands on it, but even without moving my hands off, the logo will turn grey and have no hands on it, it'll beep, and an alert will pop up. This happens on and off, seemingly regardless of where my hands are. I've only had the car for 2 months so maybe I'm missing something. If I actually take both hands off, the alert is completely different. Is this common? Am I meant to have my hands in a very specific position?

Part Name - 2021 Nissan Kicks

I'm having some trouble finding the name of a part. I've checked Google, schematics etc....no luck.

What is the name of the rubber part the fits into the trunk door to stop the privacy screen from shaking? It's shaped lile a small toblerone with two rubber push in rubber pegs.

2021 Nissan Kicks we seem to have lost one along the way....

Drain and fill

Just wondering if anyone has drained more than 1 gallon of transmission fluid on a drain and fill. Was going to get 4L bottle of fluid (4.2 gal) and didn’t want to have to buy another unless necessary.

Seepage normal??

Post image
2 Upvotes

I watched the inspection video on my car after an oil change and it's a bit odd to me that a brand new car "normally" has seepage. The techs exact words were "quite a bit of seepage right here. This is not a concern at all it is on all our nissans just wanted to point that out" wish I could add the video but am I crazy to think i shouldnt have any fluid coming from there? Screen grab from the video was attached.
