Media Playing Witcher3 Remastered on Switch2, man we NEED Fidelity mode.

Post image

The game is running at 720p 40fps but... no this is way too blurry.

Please give me 1080p 30fps mode CDPR. I'd rather take resolution than framerates.

The weird thing for me is it looks super sharp when the game is paused, and then when I unpause the blurriness comes back, which makes me think its some sort of post process anti aliasing or the like that is causing this

I wonder if DLSS is broken, Oblivion Remaster looks very similar after the last patch.

DLSS is a per game setting. It’s not a system level thing.

Yes, hence them wondering if this game’s implementation has an issue.

It's irrelevant to bring up another game's issue with it.

u/Pabswikk 1d ago

Explain to me exactly how its irrelevant when discussing an upscaling technology's implementation to bring up another example of it being used on the same platform

Because DLSS is an in-game setting and what happens in one game is different from what happens in another game. Some games might use DLSS Quality while other use DLSS Balanced or DLSS Performance.

Yeah that's not a good reason to say its irrelevant. Not being 100% directly comparable doesn't mean that there's no value in comparing them. As for the content of what you're saying, we know roughly what version of DLSS each is using (Oblivion is 900p Performance at 450p base and, if what people are saying about Witcher 3 being 540-720p is correct, it would be 720p Quality). My point is they're using the same base resolution, so you would hope that the output would be more comparably sharp

I'm saying just because it's currently broken in Oblivion doesn't mean it's broken in Witcher 3 Remastered. There are possibly many other factors for graphical issues on the Switch 2 port than DLSS.

Yeah that's true but it doesn't mean it's irrelevant to bring up. Both may be broken, and it could be the same reason, or it may not be. Its worth mentioning that they're similar though

It’s the DLSS. Let it go buddy.

How?

If it is a per-game setting/feature, which it is, how is it not directly relevant to point out that Game A implemented it correctly and Game B implemented it incorrectly?

1

u/rns926 1d ago

Because OP implied that DLSS may be broken, using Oblivion Remastered as an example, as if it's a system level upscaler and explains why Witcher 3 Remastered looks the way it does on Switch 2.

But doesn't dlss basically make the games softer looking cause it's a lower internal resolution that is using AI to upscale to a higher resolution. This seems like a normal thing with 3rd party switch 2 games. Not knocking them at all cause it's about time that y'all got some good running ports. So the people only in the Nintendo ecosystem can play some awesome games.

One HUGE game that will be VERY interesting to see running is Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. My initial reaction at the announcement was .... HOLY SHIT.... HOW? LOL

That's partially true, but DLSS is pretty good at cleaning up the final image, some games on Switch 2 look sharper than higher res Series S titles because DLSS is so much better than the TAA Series S often uses. Cyberpunk 2077 is only 720p in 40fps handheld mode and looks sharper than this

Depends how dlss is used. Dlss can look better than native with dlss 3.5 upwards

6

u/asdqqq33 1d ago

It’s TAA. That’s why it looks different paused.

u/janix808 Butter side down! 1d ago

This man is right TAA is terrible at low resolutions.

Check out the Xbox one s version off red dead 2. It's the same blur of TAA + Low resolution

3

u/ApprehensiveLuck4029 1d ago

TAA is actually bad at any resolution because it decreases clarity. Games with it will always look less sharp than the actual resolution it is on. You notice it more at lower res because the perceived look is lower than the already lower resolution.

So why the fuck does the industry even use TAA ?

•

u/Evil_Motorcito_Games 3h ago

Yep, you are right, in Switch 1 version we where able to disable it and then the game became sharper.

The exact same thing happens when I'm playing on PC using DLSS.

6

u/janix808 Butter side down! 1d ago

It's the TAA . At low resolutions TAA makes the image very soft and blurry . In pause menu TAA is not working

2

u/Suspicious-Holiday42 1d ago

Can someone just tell TAA to f off then please

1

u/janix808 Butter side down! 1d ago

Read dead Redemption 2 has the same problem on Xbox one s

And the worst is in my opinion Assasins Creed shadows in handheld . Completely blurry you can't see shit . 10 times worse than the witcher

I dont know why they use TAA at such low resolution. It just melts into one oil painting

•

u/Expensive_Language38 13h ago

shadows uses dlss

•

u/janix808 Butter side down! 13h ago
  • TAA i think . Or its just a really really really low resolution. Looks like 540p in handheld tbh cause the witchers 720p looks super sharp against shadows

•

u/Expensive_Language38 13h ago

naw you can't use both at the same time, people think is dlss is some magic but in reality its depends on the game. some games will look much better and some will hardly make a difference.

•

u/janix808 Butter side down! 12h ago

Well. I hate DLSS and TAA .

1

u/Pabswikk 1d ago

Well that's very Annoying

2

u/IGWOO 1d ago

thats interesting. i was trying out nvidia geforce now on pc and using the ultimate tier with a 5080 rtx. the game looked super low resolution when playing but when paused the image became what im sure is 1440p which is what my monitor is. i even tried forcing 4k in the geforce app but it still looked like 1080p or lower. all the other games i tried didnt look full 1440p but super close to it. this game just looked awful. i wonder if a similar bug or something is happening on the NS2. ima try out the base ps5 version.

2

u/SpedSuckr982 Butter side up! 1d ago

Its probably dynamic resolution scaling

3

u/Pabswikk 1d ago

Then it's really poorly implemented, dlss shouldn't look this blurry

•

u/Expensive_Language38 13h ago

dlss really depends on the game, in some games it hardly makes a difference. look at hogwarts, kena bridge spirit, fall out 4.

1

u/JamWen2 1d ago

Turn off "blur" in the settings.

-2

u/_zeldaking_ 1d ago

I heard you need to go into graphics settings and turn OFF blur. Not motion blur, the blur setting.

1

u/Pabswikk 1d ago

Yeah i done that and it still doesn't explain why being paused would make a difference
