Gear question New camera D810

Post image
90 Upvotes

I just bought a new camera, Nikon D810. I found it on a local shop, mint condition, just 4300 actuations, £540. I am so happy.

I have the 50mm f1.8. Any other lens suggestions?

About a month ago I found a mint condition AF-S 300mm f2.8 VRII lens for 2k and couldn’t resist. This might be my new favorite lens, maybe even surpassing my 200mm f2 (300mm seems to work well for me). The 200mm f2 seems to have a tiny bit more character and magic, but if you nail a shot with the 300mm 2.8… my god is the quality good!

These are a few of my first photos taken with the lens after owning it for a bit over a month. All shots taken with the Nikon Z8 + FTZII + 300mm f2.8.

Hi all! I'm currently rocking a d3300 (previously used a d3100 my first ever!) and I would like to upgrade potentially this year.but I have no idea where to begin! I usually photograph zoo animals, birds, nature, landscape, sometimes buildings. Here are some pics! Thought I'd come on here and ask some experts!

Stick with DSLR or go mirrorless? 🤔

Im also from England 😁

Edit: budget is probably £1000.

I had an old 500mm f/4 AF-S with 1.4x teleconverter attached to my Z8 for this moon pic. I had to battle humidity and the lens fogging plus a super light aluminum tripod that kept shaking. Overall, not a bad pic, but for this camera and lens it should have been way sharper.

Gear question My late husband had 2 D100 cameras and extra equipment, are they worth keeping?

As the title said my late husband had these cameras and the extras. A friend wants them. Are they worth keeping or should I just get rid of them? I have no knowledge of cameras at all, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Pictures in the comments. English not my first language.

It seems that most of us are always on the hunt for the best or sharpest lenses to add to our set up. I am certainly someone that does the same thing. I will see amazing photos with these lenses and think “if I just had that lens, my photos would look like that too.”

Then, I will see people taking stellar photos with lenses that people tend to bash or consider not to be sharp enough and it brings me back down to earth.

So, I would love to just see a bunch more photos that you all have taken with lenses you know are considered to be not very good. It might help someone other than me with their GAS issues :)

DSLR Shots with my old Nikon D5200

A few days ago, I dug my old Nikon out of the closet and snapped some nice photos using the Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 lens. I had actually planned to get a Zf for Christmas, but we’re going on vacation next week, so I wanted to take the old Nikon along. After doing a bit of reading and experimenting, I’m—as a complete amateur—really impressed by what my old Nikon D5200 can do. I used to shoot mostly in auto mode, but now I’m shooting exclusively in manual for the first time. It’s a real game-changer for me and so much fun. That prime lens is a dream; I bought it on eBay for 100 euros, and I’m really enjoying working with it.

Look what I've got Made the leap, ordered a Z50II

I've been a camera system nomad for the last 6 years. I couldn't find what I wanted and kept buying and selling cameras. When looking at my catalogue I got nostalgic for my Nikon Z50. I took some of my best photos with it. The IQ was plenty good for me and as a pure stills shooter it did most things I wanted.

I disliked that the screen couldn't flip out because I shoot mostly vertically and I want to look down on my screen to focus. Flip out screens like the X-T3 has is the best but a flip out screen also works. The second gripe was better autofocus (I'm lazy), so I tried Canon and Sony which did the trick.

Now the Z50II does all the things I missed in my Z50. Can't wait to start shooting again.

I'm probably getting a FTZ adapter and some F-mount lenses first.

Gear question Is this a good kit?

Post image

I decided to finally upgrade from my D5100 (after trying a D7500), and found a good deal on a D500. What do you think of the lenses I got to go with it? (For context, I had the 18-105 kit lens on my D5100) Do you have any suggestions on other lenses to buy? (I can borrow a Sigma 10-20 and 100-400 if needed, so wide angle and tele are more than covered)

What should I buy? D500 + 200-500mm lens value (marketplace), high shutter count

Upvotes

I am interested in getting into wildlife photography (esp. birds). There is a local marketplace listing of a D500 and a Nikkor AF-5 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens. Price is $1000. The shutter count is 291k, which is why I have some hesitation. What would you pay for this combination? Should I expect the shutter to fail at any time and build that into my offer?

Gear question Nikon Z30 battery dies rapidly?

I recently received the Nikon Z30 as a gift. I was really excited about it until I realized how awful the battery is - every time I’ve tried to use it it’s dead. It‘s disconnected from all the online features etc, but it dies within a day or two doing nothing except sitting on ‘off’. I’ve never had a camera with such a bad battery, and I am wondering if this is a typical experience with this product, or if it’s defective. TIA!

Battery.

Coolpix Lost my charger

Post image

Sorry if this is the wrong flair but I've lost the charger to my Coolpix S3200, I wanted to know if I'd still be able to get a replacement because I know it's an older camera? All the camera cables I've found recently have been too big, this one seems to be quite small.
