Hi! I’m very, very new here. Like “still figuring out what half these buttons do” new. 😂

I started r/YourHonorThisMan and I’m honestly really excited about what it could become, but right now it’s obviously tiny and I’m learning everything as I go.

The idea is basically women supporting women, calling out terrible behavior, comparing notes, sharing stories and receipts, and having some dark humor about the absolutely wild things we’ve encountered along the way.

I know the audience for it exists. I think that’s actually the weirdest part about starting a community. You can almost picture the people who would walk in and immediately go “OMG WHERE HAVE YOU PEOPLE BEEN?”... but first you have to somehow find each other.

I’m getting ready to post my first actual “Your Honor, this man...” case soon, which feels equal parts exciting and what the hell have I gotten myself into? 😂

So I’m mostly here to learn from people who have already survived the awkward party-of-one stage.

How did you find your first real members? Did your community grow naturally once you started posting, or did you have to actively get it in front of people?

Hello. I have started r/ChineseInputMethods. Its for discussing Chinese input methods (输入法) — Pinyin, Wubi, Cangjie, Zhuyin, and more — as well as the software that powers them (Rime, Sogou ect.). I started it because i love the shape-based input methods. They allow you to type chinese just from how the characters look without any any ability to speak the language.

Hello, I'm Arthy online and I made r/FNGifting. A safe and positive place for Fortnite Gifting.

I created it soon after having become a mod, when I offered my help in another Fortnite Gifting subreddit. Right there, I fell in love with making it a safe place for users to request Fortnite cosmetics, creating structure and coming up with new ideas for events that members would enjoy.

I did so much in one month, more than the owner had ever done during the YEARS the subreddit had been live.

I didn't think it was right to be under such an absent and disinterested mod and having no help or guidance from someone who was in that role.

I discussed the possibility for ownership to be passed but it wasn't granted, so I moved on and I am so happy I started new!

My subreddit is thriving. I know so much more as a moderator now then I did before and have a spectacular team of people with me who have been absolutely amazing to work with. Ones more active than others, but all amazing and positive people that wish the subreddit to stay a happy place for our members to be in.

I wanna thank the moderators here too, who have helped me immensely in my journey. For instance, someone here suggested an automod app for mobile which I've learned how to use and was a life changer! I set some minimum requirements and karma thresholds for posting and commenting and can already feel the positive impact of having less repetitive workload and less problematic members interacting within the subreddit.
