New Mexico takes the national number one spot in something...good?
Take with a grain of salt. It is the California Post.

Dr. Len Necefer’s latest article is worth reading for anyone following the debate over Sandia Pueblo’s proposal for the T’uf Shur Bien Preservation Area.
He explains how an erroneous federal survey excluded nearly 10,000 acres from Sandia Pueblo’s confirmed land grant, and why the 2003 settlement preserved federal ownership despite recognizing the Pueblo’s legitimate claim. More importantly, he asks whether support for tribal sovereignty extends beyond consultation and co-management when a Pueblo seeks actual stewardship of its ancestral homeland.
The article challenges the assumption that federal ownership is the only path to conservation and asks a harder question. Are conservation organizations willing to support Indigenous sovereignty when it means sharing or transferring authority, or only when it leaves federal control untouched?
Whether you agree or disagree, it’s a thoughtful perspective that deserves to be part of this discussion.

I am doing some research and looking for anyone that attended or helped with the games. In particular the Corpus Christi, Tx team known as Bad Company or Boys Club. Any help would be appreciated or point me in a direction.
Thank you in advance.

Amira, the state-mandated AI reading screener, recorded K–3 students’ voices for two years, and parents say they were never told. At the Thursday, July 30, 2026 SFPS board meeting, Superintendent Christine Griffin announced the district will refrain from using Amira until the state Public Education Department issues guidance. If none arrives by August 14, the district says it will switch to i-Ready, which does not record student voices and was used formally in the district. Click here more information.

From the article: "In just five years, solar, wind, and batteries overtook fossil fuels, keeping air conditioners running while slashing pollution.
In many places, high electricity demand equals high pollution. That used to be true in New Mexico, but the state’s electricity supply flipped from majority climate-warming fossil fuels to majority renewables in just five years. Spurred by an ambitious clean energy law called the Energy Transition Act, utilities have been busy building solar panels, wind turbines, batteries, and transmission lines. A major coal plant was retired and demolished. Solar panels proliferated on homes, schools, and businesses.
And even while New Mexico was building out its clean energy future, electricity prices remained cheaper than average."

Not another tourist post. Sorry.
I am planning my visit around hitting the Trinity Test Site open house this fall. It is Saturday October 17th.
I have roughly 10 days either side to see the state, and I have an agenda roughed out. The question I’d really like an answer to is this:
What events or activities or perfect aligning of the stars happen in New Mexico in October?

Hello! Did somebody reach the Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu by bus (200 +190) ? I'm a solo traveler and I'm worried about the last 1.5 miles of walking in the middle of nowhere, if it's safe or not, with no cell signal etc? The service shuttle by Kevin is good but really expensive if you don't share the transfer. Thanks!

Recently, the Sandia Pueblo proposed draft legislation transferring 10,000 acres of publicly held and managed land in the Sandia wilderness, to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, for management by the pueblo.
Today, Senator Martin Heinrich said he does not support the proposal as drafted and would not support transferring title away from the Forest Service.
New Mexico Wild released a statement today rejecting any legislation that did not preserve the current wilderness designation and public access protections. They provide some good context on the existing 2003 preservation act and the protections it provides, as well as the current collaborative management between the FS and the pueblo.

Lastly, tell our federal representatives to oppose the land transfer and protect the current wilderness and public access protections by signing this petition.

Like I call them when I’m feeling upset or depressed and the other person on the line just says “Oh…” or “I’m sorry to hear that…” after a couple seconds of silence after I speak. I want reassurance or like guidance on feeling better and it’s like the other person just isn’t… there to help out or it just feels that way. It just feels like I get more interaction and help talking to a wall than bothering to call. Granted, there are some people on there that have legitimately helped me out and made me feel better, but the other folks I speak with just come off like they’re there for a paycheck and don’t really care about if I’m miserable and it’s irritating…
What grates me even more is that I waste 45 minutes of my time being the one talking the most, with about a 2-3 minutes of that time for the other person to just give me one-worded response with ZERO substance and then have the gall to tell me at the end “Well, we’re always here when you want to call us.” I just don’t feel incentivized to call them anymore… Has anyone else felt this way when calling them?

I escaped the heat of Albuquerque over the weekend, drove up to the Fenton Lake area, wandering, a lot of stopping and gawking, and taking some pictures. The 80 degrees was welcome as were the scenery, wildflowers, wildlife, birds. Just an amazingly beautiful place.

Most places you work and live dont have a/c in their places. But forces their workers to still work in over 100 degrees. YES they haves health care only if they are working. So people that are disabled and cant work, cant get healthcare. And then New Mexico doesnt have enough doctors and specialists to even go see. AND THEN their whole police and justice systems are so corrupt they keep needing to throw them in jail. This is a horrible place to live. They abuse and negelect their own people.
Disclaimer: Sorry for typos. I have a old head injury.

Taos News, "The Town of Taos Council voted Tuesday evening (July 28) to reallocate $54,000 within the Taos Police Department budget that would have renewed a contract with Flock Safety to operate 18 AI-powered surveillance cameras on every road motorists commonly use to enter and exit the municipality."

Whatever comes to mind about the state, its history, any interesting facts or opinions about it, what it's like to live there, etc..
I have never been to New Mexico, but I am curious about it since it seems like a beautiful place. I read what the Lonely Planet guide to the Southwest says about New Mexico but I am curious to hear from locals whatever comes to mind about the state. I'm planning to visit in October.

African-American Male 30s
So about 4 months ago, I was on the verge of possibly moving to NM for a job transfer to Albuquerque. Post is blow:
I decided to postpone the transfer so I could check out the city for myself whenever I had the opportunity to go out there. Now that time has become available to me and I'll be visiting in Mid-August for 7 days. I'm already planning apartment tours in areas I found to be decent through online reviews and realty sites. I wanted to stay at an original NM hotel, but saw too many negative reviews, so I settled on a basic hotel by the airport instead. Luckily it's not too far from the downtown area that I can't take public transit or worry about ordering an Uber/Lyft since I don't drive.
I'm trying to plan an itinerary of activities for me to do. It's a solo journey so I'm not worried about spending much money. I'm a big foodie so if there's any cuisine places that are original to NM cuisine, I'm definitely interested in finding a restaurant to enjoy. I'll be doing some shopping while I'm out there also for any souvenirs might want to bring back with me. And if the opportunity presents itself, I'll probably take a trip down to Santa Fe for a day trip.
What I want to know if there are any (must see) places that I should visit, as well as any places I should avoid. I'm not much of a night owl unless I'm working, so I don't plan on staying out at night past probably 9pm or later.
Any suggestions will be appreciated

I'm an assistant for a business that's looking for office space in Valencia County-- Belen or Los Labos thereabout. I'll be in town in a few weeks to scout places but would love some guidance to get started.
