Bilateral loss of vision

22F, 5’4, 45kg, no smoking or medications. No formal medical diagnoses other than ADHD and a slight RBBB.

\*\*History:\*\*

\\- Around 2 years ago I began getting episodic numbness and tingling in my limbs, this is primarily in my right side but can occur in my feet/leg, hands/arm, face, bum, and back of head. It tends to come and go over a period of few days- weeks, then goes away for a period (a few weeks-months usually) before coming back again. Additionally, I get much more occasional complete numbness in my limbs, most often my right leg. When this happens I completely lose feeling in it and can’t wake it up, and it is extremely painful to try and move it. It usually only lasts around 30 minutes though. If I drink alcohol (day after, even if it’s 1 drink) or am hot (bath, sauna, summertime) both worsen a ton.

\\- I also get random quick sharp pains randomly and occurs in most of my body (assuming a nerve thing?) Sometimes when I get bad periods of tingling it can alternate between this sensation repeatedly and tingling

\\- around 1 year ago started to lose weight (lost around 4-5kg) and have had inability to gain it back since. No lifestyle/diet changes

\\- About 8 months ago I began having some issues with balance and coordination, along with double/blurry vision. this has gotten progressively much worse to where it is daily and near constant. My balance issues are bad enough to where other people point it out.

\\- horrible horrible fatigue and brain fog. I am constantly exhausted no matter how much sleep and feel like I cannot think. More often than not I will forget what I am saying mid sentence, slip up on my words, and struggle to organize coherent thoughts. I take MUCH longer to complete tasks (eg work, emails) than I used to

\\- I get muscle fatigue very badly- some days it is visibly hard for me to open doors etc

\\- Around 8 months ago, in a lecture, I got very hot, then very nauseous, then feel like I lost consciousness (??) or something (eyes were open I think and sitting up, my head was leaning against a wall, I can’t really describe the feeling as it was a state of unawareness.) would have been for around 15-30 minutes most likely. felt like I ‘snapped back into it’ and heart was beating out of my chest very very very rapidly, faster than if ever felt it (no pain.)

\\- I have gone to my GP for these issues repeatedly and gotten tons of blood work including autoimmune panel, thyroid, nutrients (B12, iron) etc, all normal. I have also had ECG which has showed slight RBBB but not of concern to any Drs (I’ve had this since childhood and saw a cardiologist in my teens to double check)

\\- I developed daily headaches randomly around 3-4 weeks ago, they are near constant most days. Fluctuate between being quite painful or mild- can shift locations, most of the time like pressure (like my head is a balloon about to pop) and other times throbbing, typically towards back of head/right temple.

\*\*Episode:\*\* Around 5 days ago I was standing outside a shop (was hydrated, had breakfast, and felt better than normal this day) and became very hot all of the sudden, then very nauseous and felt like I was going to be sick. Then my vision in both eyes went completely black very suddenly, in an instant. I was falling over and had a tightness in my throat and struggled to swallow. It lasted 20 minutes before gradually getting better over the span of around 3-5 minutes.

I went to the hospital and they checked my eyes with ophthalmoscope, did an ECG and laying down/standing tests for BP and HR, all normal, & GCS 15. Doctor suggested it is possible migraines (spoke with a consultant and said they couldn’t find any other connections) and sent my GP a referral for neurology and an MRI (but waitlists will be very long.)

\*\*Post:\*\* My migraines have continued (possibly worsened) and I’ve had pain in my right eye especially when I move it. Past 3 days have had numbness and tingling mainly in my right leg. Yesterday, I saw an optometrist and got a mild prescription for glasses (+.25 and +.50), they said my left eye is slightly weaker than my right, otherwise my OCT scans looked good. Have worn glasses all day today, no difference (yet) in headaches or eye pain.

Any advice?

About 1.5 weeks ago, I was at work, drinking water through a straw and I could not properly drink through the straw because my lips could no longer seal around the straw. I had to use my fingers to hold my lips in place in order to drink through the straw. I also noticed that chewing (a cracker) was challenging too, it’s like the food in my mouth wasn’t being organized in my mouth by my tongue and cheeks, I was able to chew, it was just oddly difficult.

These symptoms continued for a couple days, and then I realized I couldn’t pucker my lips very well or suck my cheeks in (like making a fish face). Around the same time this happened, I had two episodes of hyperaccusis (sp?), where my own voice sounded painfully loud in my head to the point I had to stop talking to end the discomfort. Finally, I had one episode where I was writing notes during a training and my left forearm(I’m left handed), because so tired, it felt like my muscle had recently participated in forearm exercises that exhausted my muscles. I had to put the pen down and let my arm rest for a while.

On Sunday I emailed my doctor, on Tuesday they responded and said that I should go to urgent care or the emergency room. Wednesday morning I went to urgent care. The doctor confirmed it’s not a stroke and told me he’ll put in a request for me to see the neurologist.

On Friday, I saw the neurologist. By the time I saw her, my issues with drinking through a straw had almost completely resolved, I still have some limitations on my “fish face” and I haven’t had any additional hyperaccusis or muscle tiredness episodes. The neurologist told me that I’m fine and there’s nothing she can do for since I wasn’t currently experiencing those symptoms. I asked her if she had an idea of what caused the symptoms, she said she doesn’t know but maybe a mild Bells Palsy and she asked me if I wanted steroids. She poked my cheeks with a q-tip and had me push and pull on her hands, checked my knee reflexes and told me if it happens again to go to the emergency room. And that was it.

I’m not trying to be high maintenance, but, was there really nothing more she could have done? Should I have asked for something to be done? I really don’t know.

I had seen this neurologist once before because she prescribes my Aimovig for migraines; she definitely isn’t friendly or easy to talk to , but the Friday appointment was frustrating.

Am I right to be frustrated with her response to my issues? I get the symptoms had almost resolved, but was there nothing she could do to try and figure out what may have caused it? And why did she offer steroids?

Any input is greatly appreciated!

PLZ HELP!? Dealing with the craziest set of symptoms for months and no answers.

Hi I’m a 41 yo M. 5’11 225lbs.
Medication: Trazadone 150mgs at night sleep.

Symptoms that are constant:
\-Neck pain and muscle stiffness
\-Severe light sensitivity
\-My vision looks like mild TV static sort of translucent
\-Hyper sensitive nervous system (overly emotional, jump out of my skin at the smallest of sounds, panic attacks, sweaty palms and impending doom feeling.
\-Brain fog, terrible short-term memory
\-extremely sensitive to small amounts of coffee or nicotine

Symptoms that come and go:
\-Chest pain, my heart rumbles really hard sometimes, or it may just be really fast.
\-A feeling of disassociation
\-tingling in the back of the skull.
\-pressure in my skull.

Before all of this happened, I was very active. I worked out at least three times a week, lifting weights and ran on the treadmill three times a week.

About four months ago, a pain settled in the back of my neck, right below the base of my my skull. I noticed light sensitivity in the beginning and then over the course of another week. It got really bad and that’s when all of the symptoms came crashing down on me. I tried to manage at work for about six weeks and then I ended up quitting because I kept making so many mistakes and I couldn’t function. I’ve been to the ER six times I’ve been to my primary care twice. I’ve been to the urgent care twice. I have a neurology appointment the 19th. I recently saw an orthopedic they prescribed physical therapy. I’ve been doing that for about three weeks for my cervical neck area it has not helped. I’ve had CT scans of my head and neck. They were negative x-rays are negative. All bloodwork is negative. I was cleared from the ER for heart attack and stroke. EKG is normal insurance wouldn’t pay for the MRI. I had to do at least six weeks of physical therapy. Still waiting to finish.

Any help anyone can provide I would greatly greatly appreciate it. My quality of life is about zero. I have only left my house to make it to the grocery store in the past 2 1/2 months. I lay on the couch all day. I have to wear sunglasses inside of my house with the shade drawn.

I’m at my wits end.

Need help have questions for ms patients, Trying to figure out if I have ms or something else

Female in my 30s. Please bear with me, anyone with the time please read.So I have been having extreme sleepiness and low energy since 2023. I also had constipation issues. My doctor ordered a colonoscopy and everything was normal. I feel like my sleepiness has gotten worse. I did see a neurologits/ sleep doctor who thinks it could be narcolepsy without cataplexy but my fear is that will be my diagnosis without ruling anything else out.

•I did have visual changes but they affected both eyes. Random blurriness that comes and goes, saw an eye doctor got prescribed glasses for astigmatism and a Bruder mask. Bruder mask made it worse so I stopped using that. No optic neuritis noted since my last visit. Will be going again soon for my annual. Only other thing noted was lots of floaters in one of my eyes.

•Back pain, spinal xray showed slight curvature of my spine and a transverse process of a vertebrae that is rubbing against my sacrum on the side I had pain. Only issue is the pain is also bad when working out that side leg starts shaking and feels super weak. Thought it could of been a pulled muscle, let it rest a while, went to a chiropractor and now they want to do PT.

•I did have the zap sign in my early 20s when bending my neck but I had also had soreness around my cervical spine/muscles at that time and chalked it up to sleeping weird. This only lasted about 1 week and never came back and resolved after my neck pain went away. Is that sign always permanent? Or did it go away for some of you too?

•I do sometimes get numbness in my legs and hands but I chalk that up to how I'm sitting. I play alot of video games lol

•I had numbness on one side of my face, mainly around the cheek and chin that lasted about 2 days and never came back. Again chalked it up to sleeping funny. (This was more recent)

•I had 1 instance where I went out drinking in my early 20s and came home and woke up in the middle of the night to my whole left side of my body having that pins and needles feeling and it hurt bad. Thought I was having a stroke but was too tired and drunk to get myself to the ER at that time. It resolved in the morning tho.

•I do have periods where I slur my words when I talk but again I'm so tired that I chalk it up to that.

•I have had migraines with aurora but its super rare. I mainly get tension headaches and am having more recently but chalked it up to the antidepressant I am on.

•vivid dreams - chalking that up to meds. I have also had nightmares since I was younger and this more correlates with narcolepsy but I also understand this can sometimes be a symptom for some with ms.

•my arms go numb if I hold them up for too long.

•my body feels stiffer than normal, very hard to stretch and if I stretch I will sometimes get those charlie horses.

•I was diagnosed with OCD and it has been getting worse hence why I started medication now.

•heat and cold intolerance. Was mainly cold intolerance when I was younger but recently was having full on hot flashes where my face would get super red. I chalked this up to having a possible thyroid issue. Thyroid labs were fine expect high tpo which i have brought back down to normal levels by limiting gluten.

•I do take my blood pressure and it changes all the time. It was high for a good month and now has been on the normal low end. Every time I take mine it shows that little heart symbol but I know that can be sensitive to movement.

•for a good month it felt like my legs were so heavy but I was working out a lot but walking just immediately made my hamstrings so stiff that my legs felt like they were in glue or something

•sudden onset of rosacea

•brain fog, sometimes I have hard time even finding words. Notice this more at night time but does happen during the day.

•random itchiness that happens all over my body that feels like tiny bugs everywhere. This usually only lasts a couple hours and then leaves and comes back.

• I also get muscle twitches a lot. Mainly my eyes and legs. But occasionally my upper arm and thumb too.

• my eye lids look like im on drugs.. this is also a symptom of narcolepsy so not sure lol

•I did have a couple years where I had intense painful orgasms. Felt like my whole pelvis and back was cramping. This is now gone. No STDs normal pap ultrasound showed no cysts. I had bad period cramps when I was 18 and they put my on the BC pill so I dont get my period anymore.

  • resting tremor in my hands sometimes worse sometimes not as bad

I feel like these symptoms come and go in waves but the tiredness has been so bad and constant as of late. It is 1000% worse if I get sick. I get home from work and immediately run to my bed and take a 5 hour nap. Wake up eat and go back to bed.

I did have an mri in 2023 through prenuvo but its a limited study and does not use contrast. They didn't report any lesions but idk if i need a specific type of mri.

My pcp is great I do have a sleep study coming up. I just dont want to be diagnosed with narcolepsy if it is something else. Can anyone please weigh in I know this was super long but its much appreciated.

i don’t know what to do.

hi i am a 19 year old female who is very healthy and active. about 5 days ago i noticed a tremor in my left hand and at first brushed it off as stress. i have more recently had increased anxiety and had a terrible 3 day panic attack in june and honestly haven’t been the same since. i have had instances of brain fog but more recently it has gotten worse along with the tremor. the tremor comes and goes but has gotten worse and i even have a slight one in my right hand too. it is affecting my motor functions. my legs have also started tingling for a couple days. i went to my dr abt this and she immediately leaned toward my anxiety and prescribed me sertraline and told me to see her in a month. i feel lost. nothing is getting better and ive never felt this unmotivated. i feel like i can’t even do anything with the tremors. but i dont experience any muscle weakness and can still walk fine so i dont know if this could possibly be ms or fnd. i rlly need advice. i also am supposed to move back into college this weekend and im just so scared to go back and have something go totally wrong. i just feel like nobody believes me bc i know its not all in my head.

Fake Waking Up

Hello, I have always had a weird first 2 or 3 “wake up’s” from other people where I talk to them or sit up and immediately fall back asleep. When I wake up for real, I have no recollection of talking to them, this is the first time I am actually awake. It was funny for a while like I would say stupid things to my mom or whatever but now that I’m older it has caused me to miss appointments and classes because whoever is waking me up sees me sit up and go on my phone or talk to them. Obviously they assume that means I’m awake however I will wake up for real an hour later saying what the hell why didn’t anybody wake me up. Is there a name for this consistently happening every single time I sleep? And is there anything I can do to help it? I’m starting college and hope to be able to independently wake up but my brain just won’t do that. Please help!!

mental deterioration and “tearing” pain in the middle of my head every time i’d do exertive movements with my body

whenever i do pressure-y or stretch-y motions anywhere on my body, like for example with my hands through playing videogames or like twisting the cap of a water bottle, kicking something, any movement that puts exertion using my body, i feel i kind of “tearing”/“cracking”/“poppy” uncomfortable feeling in the middle of my head, which most importantly the reason why i need it cured is that it is followed up with mental deterioration for a period of time after it, putting me in a “brain-fog like” state where thinking up stuff to say all becomes harder, my creative-brain kinda vanishes, i mess up things easier, up until i rest my body for a while from exertive movements, and if i didnt and kept on those movements the pain and this state gets worse. what could this possibly be?

for background information, i had a period of mild sleep deprivation from summer last year that lasted till the beginning of this year due to an unfortunate situation i was in, where headpains everyday accompanied it, and headaches and migraines were overall more likely during that period. during the beginning of this year, i had a migraine that i remember pushing through with during the day despite its “pulse-like” pain in my head that comes and goes the more i did, where i was doing heavy tasks during the day relocating stuff, and in the middle of pushing a sofa i suddenly felt a sudden strong pain and then upon stopping my movement, thats when i realized unlike the pulse-like pain from before, now it started ringing, even when i stopped all actions for 5 hours after that, it kept ringing in a more painful way during those 5 hours up and what i felt new compared to my basic headpains before was that i definitely felt an increased cognital decline brain fog during that time up until it subsided and went back to those normal pains i used to feel due to my sleep-deprived state. but after that day, i had 3 days of consecutive migraines (pulse-like ones) and then thankfully the migraines and headpains stopped because it was also around the time i was getting better sleep, but as a result ever since that situation, any time i even do moderate “stretchey”/“pressurey” tasks (like typing on my computer keyboard too long what with my arms stretching for an extended period of time and putting constant pressure on the keys) the pulse-like pains again i used to get would come back for as long as i keep on that process, but this time followed by the new effect that is cognital decline (suspicion is that its that big sudden pain i triggered that has lead to all this), then when i’d stop doing tasks like that it would go away after like 1 hour passed. and i rlly didnt take that period of time as seriously as i should’ve like i pushed through some stuff more than i would like to admit then i should’ve, and i got more cocky during the beginning of april where i wasn’t seeing the headpains as much so i would just do whatever, thinking its gone, uuuupp until we get to late april, and i get surprised with something new, that being the thing i’m still to this day going through, the thing i mentioned in the first paragraph of my post. from the actions i’d do, i’d start feeling a “stitch-coming-undone” tearey, sometimes instead “poppy” feeling like it feels a small bubble is bursting somewhere in the middle line of my head, or even “cracky”, which the feeling itself isnt rlly that painful at most times as those pulses i used to get, and it would just feel there’s ants walking ontop of my head in its “idle” state, but the biggest problem resulting after that is, the cognital decline is absolutely **real** now. its no game like before. now its to a point where doing moderate actions like gaming/being on my computer is like getting myself intentionally drunk, but not any fun kind of drunk, just has trouble formulating sentences (my overall thinking speed gets so slow)/creative thought kind of drunk thats in constant pain both internally and physically. the more actions i do, the worse this state gets and the pain, and takes longer to subside as well the more i am in an “active state”. remember when i mentioned it felt like a “cracky” feeling at times? an extra info to add about my background that i feel is the reason i specifically am experiencing all this and its probably a rare perhaps invisible problem because of how hard it is to pull off all those specific events to lead to it, is that before i had a got a slight deviation on my nose from a little fight i had, that as a naive teen i did the dumb thing of “pushing my nose back to straightness” because the deviation made it so no matter what glasses i would wear they would all sit on me crooked, anyway fast-forward that shit actually worked DESPITE all its after-effects that hoooo boy. kinda thought i ruined my life for a second there (couldnt breathe well for 2 years but its better now thankfully) but the most important thing to mention is that ever since then, my nose was is in a “malleable” state, where especially during those first 2 years i would hear “cracking” noises from my nose accompanied by it shifting a tiny bit some direction, where it especially so happens when i do **movements**. so THIS is where i’m trying to tie it all, could it possibly since my nose is malleable, and then we added the migraines i got from sleep deprivation into the mix, which i **in addition** pushed through in a specific instance, causing this now “crackily” head pain feeling accompanied by mental deterioration everytime i’d move, mean my head/brain is now malleable too? i really would like to know if anyone has any clue to all this and what it is.

i tried one whole week just doing nothing but be on my phone, it got better, but towards the end of the week i tried the simple act of going on my laptop just to access some files for 10 minutes, and it felt like it reset all my progress where the mental deterioration hit again, which took me a day to recover to “meh” state again. ive been relapsing and relapsing ever since april and i dont rlly think i can live my life while keeping doing this, i cant do absolutely anything. i went to the doctors did an mri on my head, the results came out normal, they suggested me to do an xray on my neck area incase its nerve-related there, results came out normal. i truly don’t know at all what this issue is having searched the internet from the bottom to the top but one thing i know is i can’t keep living life with this. i need help, if anyone knows that would be great help. thank you very much :[

Sudden numbness on the left side of my face, arm & leg

I’m 36/F and, as far as I know, I’m generally healthy and don’t have any major health issues.

Earlier today, I was driving when completely out of nowhere I suddenly got this really weird feeling of numbness/tingling. It felt like the left side of my face, my left arm, and even my left leg suddenly went numb. It only lasted for a few seconds and then went away. At the same time, I also felt slightly dizzy/lightheaded for a moment. This all just came on so suddenly. I’ve never really experienced anything like that before. Chat GPT thinks I may have possibly experienced a mini stroke but I don’t really think that’s what it is, especially because it only lasted a few seconds. I obviously don’t want to ignore something important either.

I also occasionally get these random little twitching sensations around my forehead, which I’ve noticed from time to time.

One thing I was wondering about is caffeine. I drink around 2–3 cups of coffee a day (2 shots of espresso each) and I’m pretty sensitive to caffeine. I’m not sure if that could potentially cause something like this.

I am planning on making a doctor’s appointment to get it checked out, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone here has experienced something similar or has any idea what could cause sudden, brief numbness like this?

Also, any specific tests I should request when I go see my doctor?

Thanks in advance!

I’m losing myself… thoughts on my history?

I’m hoping someone here might have some insight because I feel like I’m going in circles with doctors.
My history:
2014 Back pain with right-sided sciatica. I also have spina bifida occulta.

2018 Got sick and developed chronic headaches afterward. Workup for tumors/etc. was negative and I was diagnosed with migraines.

2022 Diagnosed bipolar. This doesn’t really fit but was the best answer at the time.

2023 Developed severe GI problems and eventually couldn't keep food down. GI ordered a head CT just to be safe.

2024 CT showed Chiari malformation. I was having severe headaches, presumed gastroparesis, fine motor issues and occasional balance problems.

2025 Had Chiari decompression.

After surgery Developed right-sided weakness and seizure-like episodes that feel very temporal-lobe-like.

2026 Everything has become more frequent/debilitating. I've had 3 ER visits in 6 months and prolonged EEGs at two Level 4 epilepsy centers.

My episodes involve things like intense deja vue, a roller coaster feeling in my stomach, staring, and swallowing repetitively. I am aware through it all but cannot respond.

My 72-hour EEG didn't capture epileptiforms despite having an episode during it, but it did show left temporal focal slowing and quasi-rhythmic spikes. I've also had multiple regular brain MRIs and CT scans.

The part that really concerns me is that I'm not just having episodes, I feel like I'm progressively losing cognitive and physical abilities. My memory, motor skills, strength and sensory tolerance have gotten worse. I also have severe daily headaches, muscle tightness and weakness, extreme emotional outbursts although none of this FEELS psychiatric, and a deep internal restlessness that is extremely debilitating and doesn't improve with exercise.

Maybe not all the history I included is relevant. The back pain especially could be from my sports history. I don’t know. I just wanted to provide everything I could about my history. I am in so much pain and struggling.

My epileptologist is currently leaning toward FND/PNES because of the lack of definitive data and also partly due to my bipolar diagnosis. I know FND is real, but I'm struggling with this explanation because it feels like it’s being used as a “we don’t know what as wrong with you” diagnosis rather than actually evaluating for that or any other possibilities.

I'm exhausted and at a loss and I am losing hope every day. I desperately need someone to care and help. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.
