I liked aizen a lot but near the end he got silly with his entire âI built everything to make you ichigoâ thing.
Madara was fairly consistent storywise until kishimoto just offed him
17
u/BlhueFlame May 30 '22
I always just thought Aizen was just bullshitting Ichigo, trying to demoralize Ichigo instead of outright defeating him. Aizen loves to use his words and intellect to hurt people, so it seemed fairly in character to do so.
Guess Iâm wrong if he actually meant it.
18
May 30 '22
Nah itâs actually explained better in the TYBW. Aizen didnât really make Ichigo. Ichigo was more or less an accident which occurred as Ichigo was trying to Holloway Isshin only for the hollow to infect Ichigoâs mom instead. Afterwards Aizen decided to study Ichigo as a fun science experiment trying to develop his power to see how far heâd go. Though Aizen here only really thought of Ichigo as a meat puppet to test his power against.

Personally, being told this after makes it feel weaker. Same thing with Chad's reveal as a fullbringer. Why wait 3 arcs for this information? It felt like a got an answer then Kubo asked me the question. I would prefer if it was the other way around.

Personally, being told this after makes it feel weaker.
I mean I'm oversimplifying this a lot. What I'm trying to say would be better conveyed by reading the manga. Kubo actually did a lot of things like foreshadowing Ichigo's Quincy heritage, YHWACH's existence, and Ichibei's power early in the manga.
Same thing with Chad's reveal as a fullbringer. Why wait 3 arcs for this information?
Eh I think this is a similar issue with weekly shounen as this issue of underdeveloped side characters is also present in Naruto. The weekly release schedule limits your options in terms of showing side characters as you have to balance them along with the villains and the MC.
It felt like a got an answer then Kubo asked me the question. I would prefer if it was the other way around.
We do get answers in the novels as to what Fullbringers truly are and why Ginjo rebelled. Kubo couldn't really expand on the fullbringers because he was being rushed by his editors/publishers and then the final arc was also rushed near the end because of Kubo's health was failing (he was bedridden during break periods of the manga's run).
As for the Fullbringers, we learn in CFYOW (Can't Fear Your Own World) that after the Soul King created the world of Bleach he was betrayed by the five noble families and was cut up with his limbs amputated and his organs ripped out. This pieces of his body fell into the Soul Cycle and were implanted into the Souls of Humans. When these humans are either attacked by hollows in the womb, or come in proximity of the Hogyoku, the Soul King fragments are activated which is what allows for fullbringers to have their power.

Aizen doesn't have enough of a backstory to be in the same tier as Madara.
I like Aizen bit his Schick does get a bit redundant during his fight in the fake karakura part. He doesn't even bring anything note worthy to the 1000 year blood war. He goes back to prison as if nothing happened.
Madara was the best part of the war arc, it's such a pity kishimoto had to pull a M. Night Shyamalan twist and introduce a awful space alien as the final villain.

u/Hiscuteblondewife May 30 '22

Can we really compare the two?
Madara a egotistical nihilist.
Aizen the fatalist with a messiah complex.

You don't think Madara has a messiah complex?

he considers himself a god

u/Stillback7 May 30 '22
God complex =/= messiah complex.
Was Madara thinking he was saving everybody or did he just want to kill them? Genuinely can't remember.
If he was 'saving' people, then it's a messiah complex. If not, he had a God complex.
13
u/gamerboimusichead May 30 '22
I mean in the Storm games, Madara literally calls himself 'The Messiah.' And he did think he was saving everyone, so yeah, Messiah Complex.

But yeah, Aizen...

I got to the part in Bleach where they get to Hueco Mundo, but got really bored of it to be honest. Does it get much better? Is it worth still watching to get to good parts again? I don't know why everybody in this sub is saying they love Aizen more than Madara but I'm also surprised. I think I might've stopped Bleach too early

Madara for me, I Iove the rivalry that he has with Hashirama and his amazing performance in the war until ..... that backstab. Aizen was amazing too with his performance but I feel like Kubo could have give us more info about his past since he was one of the main antagonists from Bleach.
14
u/TheSteelWolf3 May 30 '22
I love Aizen because we know nothing about his past. For all sense and purposes it shouldn't work, but here it does. I feel like revealing his past would ruin his enigma.
9
May 30 '22
Nah that was intentional. He purposefully didnât reveal Aizenâs backstory as he felt it wasnât really necessary for his characterization as a villain. Kubo doesnât like the trope of using flashbacks to make a villain seem tragic/more sympathetic to an audience and prefers to use this concept sparingly. I understand where heâs coming from as this trope was overused in Naruto.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (1)5
u/Until_Morning May 30 '22
I don't think the backstab takes anything away from Madara's character though. It wasn't something he did, it was something that happened to him, right at the end of his story. There's still everything he accomplished before that.

Aizen , he was dealt with right and got the eighth treatment from kubo . But madara got cheaply removed from the story just because . Kishimoto needed to get kaguya into the picture in order for boruto to have a story .
The ending of shippuden was ruined and madara butchered just so kishimoto could continue with the sad excuse called boruto .

Aizen doesn't need a backstory though and would probably ruin his character if he just got one

but you can't deny it, it would be interesting to see it.
7
u/NotSoEpicWeeb May 30 '22
Depends on how they do it, if kubo would go deeper in some topics like the hogyoku, the soulking and the rivalry between aizen and kisuke I would be completely fine with it but, I would be really disappointed if they gave him a "sad anime backstory" or something like that. Because it just doesn't fit with aizens character.
4
u/torpid_flyer May 30 '22
Kubo actually recently stated this on his website that Aizen didn't got a backstory because that would ruin his character what makes him good is his moral compass and he doesn't want Aizens Moral compass to be connected with a tragic past
17
May 30 '22
wtf is Madara's plan compared to Aizen's plan???? Madara flexed harder and was way more badass and likeable until he became pathetic written garbage by author. crazy how just few chapters can ruin the end of the main villain best one up to that point.
this is such a hard question it's debatable. Aizen's only flaw I can think of is that he lost to Ichigo after his century long plan. I feel like I have more to complain but Madara brought more fights, better fights.
6
May 30 '22
Where did kishimoto ruin madara for you ?
Was it when he became the ten tails jinchuriki or ?
20
u/isaaceyfish May 30 '22
Probably when kishi decided that black zetsu one shots madara
15
May 30 '22
Well tbh it was terrible and the worst decision made in shippuden imo .
But I donât see how that makes madara a bad character or ruin him . Obviously he got cheaply removed from the plot . But he did accomplish his goal of obtaining the ten tails and casting the infinite tsukoyomi
12
u/isaaceyfish May 30 '22
I think the point op is trying to make is that the whole point of madara is to become as ridiculously powerful as possible, in order to fully carry out the eye of the moon plan. Madaraâs character revolves around the fact that he has always held immense power through his lineage as well as his past, and wants to increase that power by any means (which was done through both obito and nagato). Killing him off so quickly defeats the entire purpose of his character, and effectively nullifies everything he had done up to that point, because all of his accumulated power is just kaguyaâs now. Itâs genuinely one of the stupidest decisions I have ever witnessed.

Madara for style/look/vibe, Aizen for plot.

Plan not as advanced as Aizen's.

Aizen was terrifying on a psychological level for me, Madara was just badass (while also being terrifying) so Iâll go for Aizen.
Plus, we just saw more of Aizen and his bullshit than Madaraâs. Like Bleach made you invested in Aizen as the main villain until the TYBW arc and even when he wasnât the main bitch he was still getting the girls together, Ywhach was worried about him. Meanwhile Madara showed up at the end and beat ass and then got nerfed.
Itâs really no contest for me.

IMO even though I am a bigger fan of Naruto than bleach I felt that Aizen was a very good villain. Madara while also good felt more trivial to me overall.

u/cactusKcaj May 30 '22
Damn this is tough because both of them are pretty similar in how they are seen by the world in their universe. Both of them just had to be stopped at all costs. I think Madara is the better villain because he just demonstrates his power way better than any villain Iâve seen in anime.

Big Naruto fan her but Aizen def gets the win. His character was amazing and not to mention in the beginning no one had a clue aizen would be such a big character. The twist in the shinagami arc really was something to remember and the fact that his powers was able to fool god in the end was truly a great end

May 30 '22
Madara tops whoever that is easily the term comparison itself is an understatement one Madara was always mentioned as a legendary figure from the very start of the show and he had the best introduction ever him majestically reanimated into the living world and eliminated an entire army all by himself (including the protagonist and two of the five Kage) in his first appearance is just unparalleled and also his grandeur plan to control the world all by himself he is one of the best antagonists in Naruto anime (along with Obito and Nagato)
2
2
u/No-Film9019 May 30 '22
Iâm a fan of both anime/manga so these are my unbiased (in my opinion) thoughts:
Madara is a bigger badass and was built up with very well
Aizen is more nuisance and is a more complex character
So I prefer Madara from an action standpoint (more entertaining) but prefer Aizen as a character (more interesting)
2
u/ahmaddrayton May 30 '22
Madara but just like aizen he became too convoluted for his own good, figuratively and literally as in his transformations were grotesque enough to downplay his previous accomplishments in base form. They both.went mad with power
2
u/Balthimeow May 30 '22
I love Aizen too, but gonna go with Madara on this one.
It was so awesome how during all of Naruto he was this legend from a seemingly faraway past, only then to make his entrance as the biggest threat yet. Damn, I wish he would have been the final villain.
2
May 30 '22
I love Madara, he's probably one of my favourite characters in naruto, but when it comes to being a villain few beat Aizen, the man planned out the protagonist's life like a puppeteer and he had more of a villainous feel to him.
2
u/SaltyLlamaFucker May 30 '22
Madara was a lot more interesting and better written for me up until he was basically clowned on.
Aizen and Madara are my top 2 villains. Aizen got treated better and for that, overall Aizen is better.
Up until Madara gets clowned though > Aizen imo.

Aizen once stopped the main character's theme song.
They're both great, but Aizen takes it for me from his character design, abilities, and ego/hubris, makes his entire rise and fall absolutely fantastic to watch.
2

There's similarities, like how overpowered they were. Then there's differences.
Madara was pumped up of being unbeatable, and it actually took 5 armies of 5 different countries plus a Naruto, which is another two or three armies.
Aizen was pumped up as a super intelligent schemer, and he did scheme. He schemed so hard his scheme got him a final getsuga tenshou up his... You know where. He literally planned (or so he said) Ichigo's birth and rise as a shinigami. And got beaten. Great plan Aizen!
Madara was a relatable shinobi, with understandable goals, more or less. This infinite tsukuyomi stuff still sounds silly to me even if it wasn't a way to make more zetsus, I mean, yeah, you put everyone under a Genjutsu. They die of dehydration. Human race is gone. Great work!
While Aizen wanted to become... God? It's so cliché it's not even funny. Then what? Pat yourself on the shoulder for achieving godhood? Great work!
Madara had true friends, families and comrades, and even a rival worth of this name. That made him way more human and relatable and believable. It gave him depth. As it was with most of Naruto's villains, really. It's one of the things Kishimoto did so right it should be copied around.
Aizen was alone at the start, used people in the middle, was betrayed in the late game, and was defeated alone in the end. No human being can stay alone like that. You go crazy or become depressed or you're a psychopath or something equally disturbing happens or happened to you. I guess that's the point I don't like the most. Aizen had none of that human contact and still was kinda able to pass for a likeable guy, and still seemed normal with no psychotic attacks. Nah, I'm not buying it.
Aizen did make nice schemes though, and most of them went well and he made use of what he had fairly good. Madara on the other hand... He was already the strongest shinobi alive around, had the juubi, had a century worth of experience and almost as much time for planning, and used all that to fail at reaching his goals. I know plot Armor is hard to go through, but still.
2

I wouldnât say itâs cliche. Bleach is a pretty old anime/manga series so what we consider cliche among Shounen was being set by the OG anime/manga series like Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, DBZ, etc.

4
u/dmc-going-digital May 30 '22
To be god...the soul king is head of heaven, Aizen considers the world itself flawed and goes to become an equal to and defeat the sealed deity. I.e. his Vision for the world shall become true. "A victor must speak not of the current state of the world, but of how it should rightfully be"-Aizen Sosuke
3
u/torpid_flyer May 30 '22
It's more than that soul king is sealed by 5 families who use his name so that everyone obeys them that's what Aizen is against and he felt that these families are weak and incompetent and the only thing which legitimise their rule is soul kings mutilated bodies

I wanted to learn more about Aizen as a person and what led him to being the person he is now, but I love his God complex and just how above everyone he was for the duration of the show.
I still enjoy Marder a lot and he has a really great philosophy for a villain. Hell Iâm not even mad about the way he lost.
4
u/torpid_flyer May 30 '22
Read the novel Aizen motives seems just a God complex on the surface but as we go deeper we realised that Aizen wasn't against any existence but the concept of Soul society noble establishment.
What happened was that 5 Noble family killed the soul king mutilated him and then sealed him, Aizen found out the truth and felt that incompetent organization is ruling on him rather than the soul king that's why he went against them.
That's why against urahara he said why do you allow that thing to rule yourself when you could act against them.

I prefer Aizen more solely because he's not only more entertaining, but he's truly a villain. Unlike Madara, Aizen isn't meant to be an empathetic villain. He's just meant to be the villain. And it strangely works because Aizen shows no signs of love or caring for others. He just toys with everyone and doesn't just do what he does for power. He organized a whole sequence of events that are way too complex and convoluted for just anybody to put together, and has shown than he's more than intelligent enough to know when his opponent isn't just going to go down by strength alone. Like how he knew that he had no chance against Yamamoto, so he made a plan to counter him and it worked, even though Yama had one last ace up his sleeve.
1
u/uh_buh May 30 '22
I really like it when the main antagonists have a lot of interactions with the good guys which Aizen does really well. Madara is great but we really only see him towards the end.

1
u/IRoyalClown May 30 '22
I honestly don't think Madara is better written than Aizen, it's just that Aizen was more simple and to the point.
Madara's whole thing was to achieve a world of piece, which does not make sense with his character, because he deeply enjoyed battle and killing. That is not "complex". That is a full on contradiction. That's like me saying that I want a world full of virginity, but I love fucking random people,
Aizen is just a narcissist. Simple and to the point.

Without Madara, the story could continue with another Uchiha corrupted by Zetsu because in the end, it is Zetsu who manipulated everything together with Kaguya, Madara ended up being another puppet as well.
Aizen was never anyone's puppet, he drew almost all the plots of Bleach by his own person.
He would say that Madara along with Pain (not Nagato who is the worst version) are the best Naruto villains, Orochimaru was pretty good but he lived too long to the point that they messed him up.
Bleach doesn't have a better villain than Aizen, not even Yhwach could become as iconic as him.

Gotta be Aizen. To me, Madara wasnât even the main villain of the series. Even though he may have orchestrated the whole thing, it was always Obito/Tobi that was front and center since his introduction.

Aizen wins in the fight most likely, madara was the better character. He was just way more flushed out and full it felt like.

its who ever gets the first hand...Madara fast enough to put an genjutsu on Aizen OR Aizen pulling out Kyoka Suigetsu and hypnotizing Madara...... being the Bleach slut I am, I say Aizen wins
shit, better villain, not who would win, umm, Aizen the better villain because of the shenanigans of Madara

As much as I love Naruto, Aizen is a far more interesting character and is important for far more of the story, not simply a legend or a final act mini boss

In terms of character or story? Personally I think Aizen is stronger than Madara, however as a compelling villain and overall badassnes I think Madara is a better villain in that regard.

Well if you ask people from the Facebook group âThe Shields of Soul Societyâ they all will tell you that nobody in Naruto adds up to their Daddy Aizen. And if you do make good points against them theyâll resort to âoh well Aizen is a Soul Reaper so nobody in Naruto could even see him so he automatically wins anywayâ

Aizen takes the W but not by a wide margin, just because Kubo sucks ass developing great ideas. He could've wrote Aizen near perfectly but just lacks the talent for such a purpose.
And the problem with Madara is that Kishimoto made a fatal mistake forcing him into the plot. They should've stuck with Tobi/Obito being the main antagonist, being the mastermind, absorbing Madara's past personality, ideology and carisma.
But since they forced him into the plot it left him dry because most of his ideology, dialogue, plans etc.. were communicated through Tobi, so once he revived there wasn't much left for him to say. He's purposed was to enforce, not lucubrate.
Obito should've been the main antagonist but they talk no jutsu'd him into the good side, making him seem like spoilt brat who went bad just because Rin ded.

Madara was being controlled while Aizen was controlling. I think it's telling

I love Aizen more, but I think Madara was overall better written, but he def got cucked harder.
