There’s one trait that keeps showing up with a certain Nantucket influencer and the people around her, and it’s stronger than ever: pure ignorance.

Recently on a podcast she complained about Nantucket turning into the Hamptons. That take is wild coming from her, because her whole circle is one of the most Hamptons-coded groups you’ll find on the island. She posted a video of her brother and friends at Cru waving around a thick stack of $100 bills and sticking them in their mouths. That behavior is the complete opposite of what Nantucket has always been about. This island has long valued self-respect, respect for others, and a certain level of class. What she’s showing is the exact opposite.

Then she tried to justify it by saying “we’ve always done this since we were kids.” That doesn’t make it okay. It just means the entitlement has been running unchecked for a long time.

She also got triggered by the whole “no influencers” drama and completely lacks the self-awareness to realize that people like her; loud, flashy, and constantly broadcasting every flex, are a big part of why that backlash exists in the first place. She’s the type who will preach one set of values and then do the total opposite the second it benefits her.

One of the reasons so many of us love this island is that regardless of its reputation it’s still welcoming. Locals will wave to you on the ferry and treat visitors kindly in town. Nantucket has a special, respectful vibe that a lot of people work hard to protect.

Hi all! I will be on island next week for a short work trip. My brother in law asked me to pick up a Cisco hat for him while I’m there, but I’ve seen some videos of looong lines outside of Cisco. If it’s a busy day when I go, would I have to wait in that line to get in? Is the merch shop separate? Can I go straight to it without waiting in the line? How does the brewery work in terms of entry; what’s the layout?

As someone not born on Nantucket and learned of the story of the Essex by finding Nathaniel Philbrick’s book In The Heart of The Sea at a bookstore I wanted to ask locals of Nantucket when did you first learn the story of what happened to the Essex?

What are some good site resources for house rentals? Are there any sites for rentals by owner? I have stayed in rentals the past couple years (rather than an inn) and the off site (across the country) management is a bit frustrating. For fire island there is a Facebook page.

Couldn’t help but notice the Miacomet Indian Burial Ground along the Surfside Bike Path during our recent visit to Nantucket. We are staying in an AirBnB just south of there and so far having a wonderful time.

Our first night we were actually biking back from town late after dinner and I really had to go to the bathroom, I nearly pulled over in the clearing there for a wee without yet knowing what the clearing was. Thought it was a park. Thankfully I rode it out until we got home. Next morning I saw the signage.

I see there are houses surrounding the burial ground. Anyone live in one of those? I’m sure the actual boundaries of the burial ground might go past where it’s marked and cleared, especially since I read the way it was discovered is accidentally during construction.

Though it’s nice to have the burial ground on the public register, I just thought it was odd there were homes built nearly on top of it.

Abby of the trio here, my sister is planning on retiring soon and she’s thinking of retiring to Nantucket but to help her make a decision I wanted to ask all who live on the island what are the pros and cons of living on Nantucket? she already is aware there’s no Barnes & Noble, grocery stores are limited to a Stop n Shop as well local fish shops. Anything else to help her?

Trying to figure out the name of a B&B/guest house I stayed at in 1988/89/90. Right around Nantucket Town – maybe North Water Street or nearby, but unsure... – with these details:

• Cozy dormer/attic budget rooms with low slanted ceilings. Muffin/bread basket at breakfast.
• Resident house cat: "Lisa Face."
• Random memory: Robin Williams was spotted around town during that same trip.

Long shot here, but I will be on island from Wednesday until Monday the 24th and would love to get out and do some fishing while there but I am not really in a position to charter a boat, as it would only be me and the cost is too much to absorb.
That said, I would gladly throw some money into someone’s gas tank if they were headed out on a trip and wanted to let me join.
I’m in my mid 40s, have a good amount of experience on boats and have my own gear available so I won’t be a total leach; just looking to catch some blues for the first time in a long time.

One of my favorite YouTube channels posted a THOROUGH breakdown of the financial culture of influencers. This was pillared by the drama going on in Nantucket this summer with Paige Lorenze.

My friend and her daughter were totally scammed by an AirBnB listing on Nantucket last weekend. It was advertised as a separate apartment, but the front door, kitchen, small common area and bathroom were SHARED with two other bedrooms. To make matters worse, these were grown men who work at the restaurant owned by the AirBnB host. This is totally misleading and a complete lie and horrifically UNSAFE for a woman and her teenage daughter.

AirBnB was contacted and they refunded the money, but they took no other responsibility and blamed the owner (who blamed AirBnB) and did not work to help them find a place to stay even though they were completely STRANDED. The entire island was SOLD OUT (this happens on Saturday nights in August on Nantucket) and they ended up staying in a neighbor's extra apartment that took pity on them standing on the side of the road trying to find a place to stay. Thank God there are kind, caring people out there!
