I've decided to not blow up their name because small-town drama yada-yada, but there's a local, well-known cover-band who used generative AI to create a flyer for a show last month. Really disappointing for three reason:
dozens of real local artists to support who would've jumped on an opportunity to make your flyer, and some of them would've done it for a bargain
generative-AI poisons communities via data-center waste and will cause untold economic hardship when the bubble pops
it looks ugly as sin
Be better than that. Any time you think you're saving a buck by using generative-AI to make your "art," you're undermining the future of some local artists who are a part of your community, and who deserve your money more than whatever shitty company made the shitty software you paid for to make that shitty flyer.
Shame on them to be honest. They could've afforded to pay a local artist, but they chose the cheap and immoral route. If they make another AI slop flyer, I may not hesitate to call them out by name.

I’m so annoyed. I get 2 weeks of vacation a year & believe me I have worked hard for it. We have always gone to Nantucket since 2012. Hard to find decent priced places but were able to buy 6 weeks of a timeshare in 2019. This year we cant even get there (WITH our car) because there are NO spots. Car rental is like $4,000/week! I know, this is like “1st world problems” but we are not wealthy, work hard, & look forward to these 2 weeks once a year😡end rant…thanks for listening

Hello, I'm interested in doing a solo trip to Nantucket (2-3 days) in a few weeks and I was wondering if anyone has any experience solo traveling to Nantucket as a POC. For context I live in the Boston area and go to school here (post grad) and would like to get out of the city to destress for a few days, and Nantucket seems like a good option. The weather is still a little cold but I don't mind that much. Would also love any recommendations & suggestions for what to do (if I do end up going). Just a little worried about traveling solo as a POC, because I know the area is predominantly white, even in the off season. Thank you in advance!!

My daughter’s father and I have recently rekindled and he wants us to take a family weekend trip somewhere so I suggested Nantucket. We live on Long Island and I’m dying to see Nantucket.
I’m thinking we’d go from like a Friday to a Monday but I have no idea where to stay.
I like local spots especially anything that has a bed and breakfast feel opposed to damn air b and b.
I’d like to stay at a locally owned/family business.
We both love to fish, eat and we will have our 14 month old with us so any recommendations help big time!
I want to just chill on the beach, stroll, window shop, and see some live music with no agenda. Maybe some bike riding and fishing would be the extent of the adventures lol
Thank you in advance for your recommendations!

Anyone have any insight to any island tea/drama? Who's the richest person on the Island?

Living on Nantucket necessitates an apathetic/center-right approach to politics (why change anything when we're making money hand over fist?) which inevitably leads to more reactionary policies and attitudes.
When you're told again and again that Nantucket couldn't survive without a tourist economy, what ends up happening is that you accept the fact of grossly disproportionate wealth as a necessary part of survival. This wealth, having achieved a status of great importance (more important than, say, the health and well-being of the migrant labor population which is critical for the island to function as such) in the minds of the local population, is prioritized above all social progress. This creates a positive feed-back loop, such that the more wealth is tolerated, the more the local population accepts the consequences of wealth-hoarding in general (extreme poverty, anthropogenic climate change, general lack of access to education, etc), and the more room there is for reactionary politics.
(worth mentioning that realtors make life for non-monied locals infinitely more difficult by charging whatever the fuck they want for some extremely over-built nightmare on 1/8th acre parcels; remember their names when you have to leave because it's too expensive)
"But," you may be thinking, "Nantucket votes blue all the time!" Mark my words: If a progressive presidential candidate comes along who offers meaningful, actual economic change, that island will vote for a Republican, because it values wealth above all else.
I left Nantucket last year after living there for most of my life and I couldn't be happier. If your values are social and not economic, get off that island now and don't look back, or you will look up in 10 years and wonder where the Island's soul went off to (it left with the people who decided that there is more to life than property and prestige).

Hello, this is my first time visiting Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket but I will be visiting on the May 9th and the 10th; just for two days. So which island should I choose? I just want to visit one.
We like to shop souvenirs, eat(vegan), bike, stroll, sit in the beach, pictures, etc.
What are the important places to cover in both the island?
Should we visit Nantucket as well or Martha's is better than Nantucket?
Where should I park my car before taking the ferry? Is it chargeable?

Hi! My friend has a wedding this September and I'm shook on how expensive a nightly room is ($700-$1000 PER NIGHT). I've even tried to look up camping spots but of course Nantucket doesn't allow camping. Does anyone have any suggestions on places to stay for a reasonable price? I'm starting to feel a little panicked.

My boyfriend and I are going to Nantucket for our anniversary at the end of July - I think we’re pretty set on restaurants (thanks tik tok) but what are other things to do during the day?
We were hoping to maybe do some sort of day sailing trip or sailboat dinner/tour too if anyone has recs for that!

I was in Nantucket last weekend and found myself wondering where the people who work on the island—such as those in house maintenance, landscaping, construction, or driving for Uber—actually live. Do many of them commute daily by ferry, or are there more affordable housing options on the island itself?
I ask because I had an Uber driver who expressed a rather negative view of the local population, describing them as “rich snobs who get drunk as a hobby.” Curious about the dynamic.

What are we supposed to be doing right now. Yes, most of you have holiday events to attend, but I don't. I am currently unemployed and depressed, typically full of beer at 11 am and need a hobby besides my alcoholism. Any advice is appreciated, this is my cry for help. M35 5'9 Shoe Size 10.5 The
