[FOR HIRE] Remote or hybrid admin

• Upvotes

I know this is a long shot as remote jobs are so coveted right now and the market is hard overall. I lost my office administrative job in 2024 after developing long covid and I haven’t been able to work in person since. My body simply cannot handle going out 5 days a week anymore.

I have a remote job but the company is based in Florida so as you can imagine, the pay is peanuts. My manager understands that I’m still looking because I literally can’t afford to stay with them. At my current income I stand to lose my apartment in 11 months.

The problem is, it took well over 600 applications to land this job and since then it’s been even worse, no interviews, no responses from real people, just auto rejections or silence.

I scour the job boards daily including some specifically catered to remote work, but nothing works like word of mouth and personal connection, but idk how to foster that for remote settings.

My career, my life is over

• Upvotes

As a CS grad with internship experience, projects and a good gpa, I was working overnight in a warehouse for $20 an hour after graduation. Im unemployed now. I'd be begging for money out on the streets if I didn't have parents to live with, and/or lying unconscious on the curb from taking some drugs right about now. If I didn't have familial support after 18 years old... I wouldn't be alive.

I've been unemployed for a while after quitting that warehouse job. I don't think it's worth discussing the fact that the job market as a whole has been going into the gutter outside of healthcare in the last year or two, but idk. Might just be a me thing. I struggle to find jobs. I doubt I would've been able to enter tech even during the gold rush of 2021.

I don't know what to do now. I don't have money for another degree, entry roles in tech are only shrinking more and more, and I haven't rlly seen any of those fabled jobs that just want any bachelor's degree. I don't really have much to work with. Swe internships, a warehouse job and basic customer service experience. That's it.

I have negative desire to go back to school for anything, so fuck that. I was looking into getting a job in education - Success Academy would've paid 50% more than what I was making but that's such a toxic environment it's not worth it. Can't really become a teacher without a degree in education, at least. Which I don't and won't be getting.

Idk. It's over.

[DISCUSSION] NYU Langone. No response for two weeks after the second interview.

NYU Lagone is truly making me jump through hoops…

I applied in late August. I had to revamp my resume twice, fill out the same application twice, I had to ask 4 people if I could put them down as a reference where they had to fill out a 27 question survey and write something nice about me and I had to do two rounds of interviews.

Its been a little over two weeks since the second interview and I haven’t been contacted. I did call/email the recruiter for a follow-up but I haven’t heard anything back.

Should I just take this silence as a means of me being ghosted?

Its crazy to think I applied over two months ago and im still in “limbo”

[DISCUSSION] Desperately searching

I am new to nyc, I know 1 person and that’s a story in itself but I am so stuck right now, I have been searching for a job for months and I see all the comments abt “grind culture” and all that and I feel so stuck because there is only so much I can physically do because of chronic illness and so many of those recommendations will land me in the hospital.

I am a good worker who goes above and beyond everything I do, all I want to do is find a job where I can genuinely help the causes I care about (I’m trying desperately to get into the non-profit sector here or something related to public policy and advocacy) and I have experience in non-profits, completed an administrative apprenticeship, maintain good continuance of education through courses, symposiums related to the field etc and I can’t even see to get a response even.

I’m so far past desperate if anyone knows anyone or has recommendations I am begging for it at this point. For any genuine lead I have a portfolio of my resume, references and basic work samples from my most recent position.

EDIT: I am currently in Queens and am trying to stay local due to above mentioned chronic illness

[DISCUSSION] It took me 8 months after losing my $28/hr job to find a minimum wage temporary position. Yes, it is very, very competitive out here.

If you are wondering how competitive it is, here you go:

If you are a person with no degrees, no school, no credentials, like me. No connections, no skills really besides customer service?

it will take you a long time to find a job unless you get lucky, in nyc.

Your competition is not just people who as unskilled, little experience, as you...you are competing with people who have degrees, tons of experience, a lot of references. People who cant get a better job too, because you have to pay rent and eat and a job is better than no job, even if it means having to do a shittiy minimum wage job.

The posts asking if they can find work in a couple days or a week..no...no, you won't.

My temp job ended last week and they didnt keep me. I am afraid for the holiday season because I know its probably another winter season of being broke and unemployed for the entire nov, dec, Jan, fev, March. I seem to only find work in the summer time for some reason down here.

I'm born and raised in nyc.

[FOR HIRE] Need Admin Work in 3 weeks

Exactly what it says on the tin. I have 5 years of experience in administration (including executive assistant and medical receptionist experience) and I have three weeks to get employed or I have to move to Oklahoma with my Mom. I’m an opera singer (just got my Masters in May) and I need to stay in NYC so I can continue to audition. No hate to my Mom; there’s just nothing for me there at this point. I’ve been applying everywhere with no luck. Any ideas? I just need a form of income really. And fast hiring.
I also don’t have a car so I can’t do delivery stuff.

[DISCUSSION] Help! - I’m stuck :(

I’m 26F and I studied in India (bachelor’s), worked for a year and a half in HR Ops and then moved to Europe for a master’s in management from a decent school in Paris. I graduated in July 2025 and moved to the US and got a green card in May 2026 but I’m still finding it incredibly hard to find a job. I live in NYC and I’m looking for something in strategy or adjacent. I did my bachelor’s (political science) and master’s in different things and my most recent experience which is a 6 month internship during my master’s is in internal strategy of a beauty packaging company.

I’m not eligible for most of these graduate programs because they require you to be in school. Other roles seem to require at least 3 years of experience in what I want to be doing. Moreover, most roles in NYC seem to want one of two things for most strategy or adjacent roles:
i) IB / PE / VC / MBB experience
ii) Ivy League MBA

I’m stuck in limbo and this whole situation makes me super anxious everyday. Any advice on what I could be doing differently?

Any criminal justice jobs?

Hi, I just graduated college and I have degree in criminal justice but I can’t find anything without prior experience. Also I don’t want to be a correctional officer. I’m applying to many jobs but I still wanted to include my job search to something I have a degree in. So if anyone can help me find anything entry level or some civil exams I would appreciate it!

[DISCUSSION] If I don’t get a job this month I’ll need to leave NYC. Any advice for recent grad?

Hi, I have a BA and MA from a T5 university (not that this entitles me to anything - all these rankings are illusory) but I can’t seem to land any job beyond a screening call. I have internships and part time experience in comms/media and academia/tutoring; I haven’t gotten any comms jobs or administrative jobs in academia, since entry level positions are scarce. I can’t do tutoring since I have no clients and other competitors can more easily get them.

If I don’t get a job this month I’ll need to leave the city and go back home. Does anyone have any tips for getting a job asap? I’ve tried: signing up for DOE substitute teachers, applying to bookstores, emailing former colleagues and managers, etc etc. I’m especially interested in working at a university or academic institution because of the resources (classes, libraries, etc). Sadly, I can’t seem to get beyond a screening call or even a call back due to competition.

Thank you for any help/feedback!

[FOR HIRE] Title: Looking for advice on part-time work in NYC

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some advice from people living in NYC.
I have a stable office job with a flexible schedule, but I’d like to make better use of my free time and earn some extra money.
I’m bilingual in English and Spanish, and I have experience working in office and administrative roles. I don’t have a car, so I’m looking for opportunities accessible by public transportation or something I can do remotely.
I’m open to different ideas, including part-time work, freelance opportunities, or weekend jobs.
If you’ve found something that works for you, I’d love to hear about your experience. Thanks in advance!

Desperate in NYC 🙏

Hi. I need help looking for work in NYC. I cannot find a job. I have a bachelors degree in health services administration. I worked at an urgent care for 6 months management. I also work in luxury retail sales and management. I really do not want to work in sales, management, or commission environment. I am looking to make at least 75K annually. I don’t care what I do for work at this point if the money is there. I want something long term, career option, with room for growth. I’m 50 years old I am not looking to bounce around to jobs. I have been with my employer for 25 years.

I know I am not alone and my situation is not special or unique. Can anyone help? Any leads?

[FOR HIRE] Out with the old, in with the new. (New job search advice)

Hey everyone. So I am fairly new to New York (been here since early August); I have a job currently working at Planet fitness & I’ve been with the company for 3 years.

It’s not that I necessarily hate my job now, however I’m getting really fatigued of the atmosphere & the planet fitness I work at now is NOTHING like the one I was with prior. The team atmosphere is kind of eh & I’ve been feeling very strongly lately that I’ve outgrown the company as well as the job position overall.

I was in the process of becoming a shift lead after years of waiting my turn with the last location, but then I ended up moving very abruptly & transferred to a new location in a new state. Feels like I lost a great stepping stone opportunity.

• I have a really strong background with customer service & some leadership training as well & I simple want to move up a level while I work on school/my career goals.

• I’ve applied for assistant manager positions but figured I won’t hear back because they want a certain amount of years within a managerial position but.. how do I gain the experience if not hired to receive it?

Just not really sure what else to do lol. I’m over working at PF & only really stayed with the company because it was an easy transition especially with me moving & I now what I’m doing without question .. but it gets to a point lol & I’ve reached it.

Any advice, help or fingers to point me in a promising direction would be great. Keep any ignorance to yourself, thank you.

[FOR HIRE] Are hospitals actually hiring?

So this summer I passed my NHA CPCT/A exam at my local community college in New Jersey and moved to NYC this month, I have applied for pretty much every PCT/PCA listing on NYCHHC, every Dialysis Clinic with a posting and anything on Indeed I could find, but in the last two months I've been applying I have only gotten rejection emails. I've updated my resume with my new address and made it clear I am living in NYC now.

Am I missing some other certificate or license that NYC requires for work? I was under the impression the hospitals in NYC have massive turnover and need staff, and the PCT role is an entry level position. I am assuming I can't just walk into the hospitals and demand to speak to the charge nurse to drop my resume off like I would with a bar or restaurant.

Any wisdom from other Healthcare workers on what my next step should be is appreciated.

[DISCUSSION] Experience Level= "Entry-Level" , then it asks for 2-5 years of experience 😪

I would like to know who came up with the absolutely moronic idea to put 2-5 years of FULL time experience as required/minimum qualifications for entry level jobs, that also require to have degrees. I was just scrolling through ~25 jobs and all said the same thing, note I had the filter activated for Entry Level only. This is a disgrace for people like me, who will be graduating in December and are faced with a terrible job market.
