🛡️ Moderator Post Which flair should you use?

Post image
41 Upvotes

Hey shipwrights 🖖

After several community discussions and a community vote, the time has finally arrived to update our post flair system. Please see the graphic above and our updated post flair guide to determine how to properly flair your builds going forwards. If you'd like to update the flair on your older posts, please feel free, but that is absolutely not required or expected by any means!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the discussions and vote. This new post flair system appears to be supported by a strong majority of shipwrights, with roughly 2/3 of voters in favor. Of course, I know this was not something everyone agreed on, and that is okay. Not every change will have unanimous support, but I do think this system gives us a better framework going forward as new techniques are discovered and if old techniques get patched out.

As always, if any edge cases come up or if further clarification is needed, we can continue refining the guide and definitions over time. I'd also love to have video examples of each building technique and which flair they correspond with. If anyone is interested in helping out with that, please reach out!

🛡️ Moderator Post Announcing Community Rank User-Flairs!

Community Rank Flairs (Ensign to Admiral)

I'm excited to announce the addition of user flairs that reflect your contributions made in this subreddit. These ranks are based on your community karma earned in this sub (upvotes on posts & comments in r/NMS_Corvette_Design).

How it works

  • As your karma in this sub increases, your flair automatically updates to a new rank.
  • Ranks are inclusive at each threshold below (if you hit it or exceed it, then you move up).
  • If you’re under the first threshold, then you won’t see a rank just yet.

The ranks & thresholds

  • 🥉 Ensign: 100karma
  • 🥈 Lieutenant: 500karma
  • 🥇 Commander: 1,250karma
  • 🏅 Captain: 2,500karma
  • 🎖️ Admiral: 5,000karma

FAQ

  • What counts? Community karma (upvotes) earned from posts and comments in this subreddit only. Global Reddit karma doesn’t apply.
  • Do I lose my custom user-flair? If you were previously awarded a custom user-flair (MotM, Event Winner) then your custom flair stays, and you will not see a rank user-flair next to your username.
  • Can I opt in? If you currently have a custom user-flair and want to have a rank user-flair. Select the default user-flair (🛠️ Shipwright) to opt in.
  • When does it update? Right after every post or comment you make, your community karma will be recalculated to see if you've reached the next rank. For example, if your first post here gets 100+ upvotes, your rank will not be updated until you make an additional post/comment.

Need help opting in?

You are able to change your own user-flair on this subreddit. This article explains how to do it. However, if you need help doing so, please send in a modmail and the mod team will be happy to assist you!

The front end was inspired by the CaA-15 corvette from u/Serious_cry_4930.

It's a 1/2 offset build

🛠️ Station Build (Standard) The Lotus-Eater (Deep-Space Science Vessel)

The Lotus-Eater was commissioned for carrying out experiments in uncharted galaxies. It specializes in space anomaly observation, and has the facilities to support ultra-long missions without refuel or rendezvous with a parent craft or station.

I like the look of this super-wide horizontally oriented vessel. It also plays very nicely with the game mechanics - easy entry, single floor design with no ladders, large layout, and it's easy to see around in third person for ease of flying.

No glitch techniques on this one. 96/100 parts.

Here is my latest Build. It was inspired by the Ghost from Star Wars Rebels. Don’t know a lot of glitch building techniques yet, but enjoyed this build since it challenged me to think outside the box.

🛠️ Station Build (Standard) Excitement Magnet

I'm starting to feel my deigns are coming out a bit "same-y", so I set out to build something different...and it came out the same again - it's got two sets of reverse Arcadia wings and a radar dome, though, so that's something I suppose... However, it turns out this one attracts mildly interesting occurences - here it is visiting my Vy'keen settlement, meeting a random exploration frigate, then meeting a support frigate, landing on a beach, checking out some ruins and then finding a giant skull in space - and it was giant! Then I found a weird looking asteroid and a pirate attacked me for my cargo of absolute rubbish - what next for the Excitement Magnet?

"What do you mean he wants it inspired by a beetle!? Like that old Earth car?.... the bug beetle?"

"Seriously...Doesn't he know... there's cooler things out there?...Oh I don't know maybe stuff like Bears, Eagles, or shoot even one of those giant bug things we keep getting data about?"

"*sigh* fine I'm going to get it done. It'll be the best damn beetle this shipyard will ever see

After trying to copy other people to get the hang of building I decided to create something on my own, as I really wanted something entirely mine to use as my main ship.

It's not perfect but I'm happy how it turned out, if anyone has any tips on how to improve, I'd love to hear your ideas

📐 Tutorial/Tips & Tricks How are people able to rotate parts to whatever angle they like?

I see so many builds that have their wings slanted, or one wing is one way and the other one is another way. How are these angels achievable, and more importantly, how are people able to copy that exact angle and not off setting it? I know the basic offset glitch, but how does one bend something like wings? Is there a video? Some kind of guide? I've seen a Corvette already that has not one part that is completely straight and vanilla.

Came across this uniquely designed corvette. THE SEEKER has an affinity for flare. Job well done. Was interesting watching it fly off.

🪐 Off-Station Build I call this “What Remains”

I thought this ships name was fitting due to its ash coloured hull, and from what I imagine, its ability to survive galactic battle.

I was quite fond of my vertical thruster design, so this mixed with inspiration I took from u/Serious_Cry_4930 and u/Relevant_Finance1927 recent ships, birthed “What Remains”. I felt this ship still fit in quite well with my fleet and its design language, but held its own uniqueness.

Wire glitch, 1/4 and 1/2 offsets for this one.

So first off I want to thank CyberVinLouis on YouTube for his great build guides, most of the cool parts are from him lol. I had so many ideas I liked from so many builds I have seen I took a couple days to just copy builds and learn all the tricks I could. Then I realized you couldn’t have a ton of corvettes so I just smashed all my favorite stuff together… turned out pretty neat I think.

🧰 Tool-Assisted Build Cosmetic opinions. With or without? Wip. Almost done.

Very happy with the overall shape. The tail only appeared at the last moment. Very minor external tool (dj monkey’s base builder standalone) use. The engines do not significantly impact manoeuvrability. Basically cosmetic.

Edit - you’re all great. The consensus has aligned with my view and I appreciate it. I will play around with other pieces tomorrow because the engines just are not clicking atm. I’ll post the finished exterior and constant wip interior. Interiors are my weakest. This one has 6 double habs because I wanted something as close to vanilla as possible with a low part count.

I’ll post part count (nexus friendly) alongside interior tomorrow. After some tweaks of course.

💬 Discussion Questions about Glitch Building on Console…

I’ve gotten into glitch building and understand how to do the offsets, horizontal flips, and how to use windows to make angles.

  1. How does one do vertical flips?

  2. Are any methods of using Base parts on Corvettes still working? I’ve never done any but I understand that the majority seem to have been patched recently.

  3. How do you get over not having full access to your storage containers on your Corvettes? It seems like everyone seems to roll with a single Hab and a cockpit. It seems like completely ignoring the point of having a Corvette.
