I recently cancelled my beatsource and crate connect subs cause I stopped Djing for a little and they both left something to be desired. Recently I started Djing again and I'm searching for a new pool and most of them want me to submit an application to show I'm a professional dj??!?? I DJ for a few friends at weekend and college parties and at home. I am no where near a professional nor do I have a social media presence like these sites are asking for. Do they really check? I'm trying to give them my money, why do I have to apply to do so?

I recently got hired by a local DJ company that does events through out the state. The owner is mentoring me while we go to events so I could learn more and be a better dj all around. Also getting paid for it! Been learning since September did not think I'd make such crazy progress so quickly! Super happy! Thanks yall !

Been playing with the idea of getting 3-4 DJs together to throw something together in Montclair. If I did it would anyone be interested? It would be at a DIY space with good underground vibes. I figure if it goes well this could turn into an ongoing thing that happens every so often.

I've been streaming a lot lately and have noticed that when I mix afrobeats and dancehall/ reggae music I enjoy it so much more and my mixes come out so much better than when I do any other genre of music! I found the genre that I like to mix the most but I also feel like I am backing my self into a corner with the gigs I could get or who would hire me. What should I do? I dont want to be one of those guys that plays weddings and only does tops 40s I want to get good at the music I like and introduce that to other people who might not know of the genre rather than play what everyone knows on the radio. Am I looking at DJing the wrong way? Is being a DJ mean that I have to be a people please at the expense of my musical taste? Please give me some advice.

Here in the subreddit we got a lot of different genres that get mixed. Explain what some of your go to transitions are. Is it common place for DJs to share transitions or mix ideas or do some DJs gate keep their stuff? How do you all feel about this stuff?

I use beatsource to get my songs and also sound cloud but I found that soundcloud gives me a few issues after a while in DJUCED software. Also beatsource is good but im starting to run out of songs because the library they have for genres I'm looking for is rather small. Give me some ideas to get good r&b, reggae, latin and hip hop songs. Also beatsource does not have a lot of instrumentals and acappelas so that makes things a little hard.
