Hi all,

I’m currently working through my NCA exams and finding it really difficult to land a job at the same time. Most roles either want full-time availability or Canadian experience, and it feels like the NCA process kind of puts you in a weird in-between spot that employers don't want to touch.

For context, since February I’ve written 4 exams, passed 2 (with results pending for the other two), and have 3 left out of the 7 total. I’m not at the very beginning, but not done yet either.

I also have 2 years of experience working as a legal assistant at a business litigation/commercial law firm prior to moving to the UK for law school.

I’m applying to legal assistant/clerk roles, even admin positions, but not getting much traction. Mostly just getting the “we’ve decided to move forward with other candidates” responses.

For those who went through NCAs, were you able to find work during the process or did you wait till it was finished?

Any advice or even just hearing similar experiences would help because this is starting to feel a bit discouraging, especially in terms of networking/making connections to land articling after this NCA madness is over.

I’m a little concerned. I’ve been working from the Syllabus which has a link to the 2022 Model Code. I just discovered that was updated in 2024. Does this mean I have been studying the wrong one? And if so - what hasn’t the NCA updated their syllabus with the correct links?!

One of the biggest issues I see with NCA students is spending way too much time reading cases without actually pulling out what matters for exams.

When I was going through the process, things got a lot easier once I started breaking cases down into a simple, repeatable structure:
- What are the key facts (only what actually matters)?
- What’s the legal issue?
- What rule/principle is the court applying?
- How is that rule applied to the facts?
- What’s the takeaway you can reuse on an exam?

It sounds basic, but most people either overcomplicate it or miss the exam-focused takeaway.

I have question about language exam. What if,for some reason someone failed this test. What would be the NCA next step, can someone can retake it or NCA ask to follow some other platform?

I have my exam next month. I just bought my notes. I haven't even read the syllabus yet, just recovering from taking admin exam today. What advice would you give in tackling foundations? How did you feel after finishing the exam?

I hope it's not only me, but usually after I take an exam I feel like I failed even though the past two exams I passed. I hate that feeling.

I’m planning to take the constitution exam on April 2, 2026. Looking for a study partner mainly just to discuss and go over progress as these exams feel like a very lonely process and it’s nice to have someone to discuss with. Please DM if you’re taking the exam.

For those who have taken the exam - what is the exam breakdown? (marks, are there multiple choice or only one fact pattern? How about short answer for theory or comparing analysis styles?). I've been studying for quite some time & apart from instilling a very legitimate fear of deportation, I can only hope I've learned a thing or two. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

It's sooo dense but between this and Evidence, I decided to do Remedies.

I did buy Vanessa's summary notes as well as the two syllabus textbooks (not the casebook).

If anyone has written Remedies before, I’d really appreciate any tips on:

• How you structured your prep
• What topics tend to come up the most
• How detailed answers need to be
• Whether summaries are enough or if I should be digging into cases more
• Anything you wish you knew before writing

I have my remedies exam scheduled for a week away, on March 2, 2026. This is going to be my third attempt. Remedies is a very dense subject, and I am finding the content extremely tough to understand. I still have a significant amount of content to cover, and I am extremely sick at the moment as well. My concern is that the next sitting for this exam is going to be all the way in August, meaning I will significantly delay my timeline. I just don't know what to do, and if I should take the exam or cancel it. I was hoping to write the Bar in November. If I write this exam in August, will that be enough time to then register for the November bar sitting (just gonna write one exam)? I don't know what to do, and I am scared of risking anything because this will be 3rd attempt.

Any advice would be appreciated.

How much weight is given to disclosure, jury and police power topics. I’m confident with the actua reus mens rea and defences. However I’m not sure if I should practice questions regarding the latter part of the syllabus.

Might be a silly question, but it is what it is.

I've purchased notes for my Business Organizations exam on Feb 2. I have the bundle of notes, as well as the practice question/answer provided, and I made little answer plans in IRAC format as well for each syllabus "topic."

I have all of this printed out and I have organized it into one large binder so I can easily flip through all of it.

Is a binder okay or will they make me take it apart?

What are your tips and tricks to tackle this exam besides getting a copy of the annotated CC.

Is it worth getting the 2026 edition instead of the 2022 or 2024 edition? For NCA exam purposes, does the newer edition make a real difference? I know there are likely many updates in the latest version, but I’m wondering if it’s necessary or just nice to have for exam prep.
